Quote from: Funt Solo [R] on 15 December, 2023, 07:18:57 PMAlways baffling when people thank Grud for having survived a natural disaster, but don't blame Grud for having sent the disaster their way in the first place. Why is Grud juggling babies anyway?

Oh no. Only just got my copy of Lifeboat - reading that will be a lot more poignant now

YouTube used to have this fantastic "bubble search" function years ago, but I cannot find anyone who remembers it. Starting to think I imagined it.

Oh and someone told me that uBlock still works on YouTube, but don't take my word for it

I just think HIGNFY has gotten too comfortable over the years with predictable barbs and a wee bit smug. I've not watched much normal telly in the last few years, but it used to be a show I'd never miss.

Unpopular opinion here - I love most R4 comedies, but I cannot abide Just a minute or I'm sorry I haven't a clue - should have been put out of their misery decades ago.

BBC:
Large numbers on an entirely redesigned set of UK coins will help children to identify figures and learn to count, The Royal Mint has said....Rebecca Morgan, director at the Mint, told the BBC: "The large numbers will be very appealing to children who are learning to count and about the use of money.

"Also the animals and everything you see on these coins will appeal to children. They are great conversation starters."

Seems a bit ambitious. You'd have to explain what coins are first.

Quote from: Funt Solo [R] on 30 September, 2023, 12:16:23 AMYou're being a bit of a c-word, there, with your petulant, sweary demands.

Literally two seconds of googling will net you the r-word, you lazy f-word.

:D

okay i googled it and I now know what R stands for.

It does piss me off though that people can't make a distinction between using a word as a slur or mentioning the word when discussing the word.

I also googled the L word - since when can we not say lesbian?

I feel your pain having dealt with council/housing association repairs for the last three decades - last week our toilet inlet pipe sprung a leak so we had to turn off the water or the long suffering lady below us would get water dripping through her ceiling again (we've flooded her house twice already, once when she'd only just redecorated). If we needed water, we'd have to put a pot under the leak, do what we need quickly, then shut it off before the pot overflowed.

Called them on Friday but it's not an "emergency" so they said they'd try to come Monday and someone would call me back to confirm. No call (obvs), but my manager kindly sorted a day off on Monday. Rang at 8am to make sure they were coming and was told no - best they could do was Thursday. As I had the day off anyway, I went into town - soon as I get off the tram I get a text - "the plumber is on his way and will be with you shortly" - had to spend a tenner to get a taxi home and beg the plumber to wait when he called to say he was outside.

Quote from: Dash Decent on 27 September, 2023, 03:57:13 AMGood to see Derek Griffiths getting into the picture.

I saw him in Gogol's The Government Inspector at the Royal Exchange in the 80s - a surprisingly fine actor

The Flash. Distinctly average, but with fun bits - I let out a heartfelt 'oh for fuck's sake' at the Nic Cage cameo, but I was smiling at the same time.
