Well it seems whoever decided to vote for legend of the overfiend just to get the talking heads in the show to explain what they like about it may have won because while reading Stephs copy of heat it mentions in the preview for the show that said demon porn classic is in the list!

Bico

Thank you, members of the board, for stuffing the ballot.  Really.
Thank you all.

Now that might actually be watchable.

Richmond Clements

Suddenly, I'm looking forward to this show.

Adrian Bamforth

I don't know what Demon Porn Classic is.

However, I'm hoping The Cat Came Back might somehow be on the list.

i really like legend of the overfiend but i'm surprised it got in. i thought they would have been more likely to put something like akira in.

Eck

Is this the list that includes...wait for it...Shark Tale?

Watching this last night, I was quite struck by how hostile those interviewed were towards the people who voted Legend of the Overfiend into it.

They were hazarding guesses as to who may have voted:

"Someone who's overweight and spotty and works in a comic shops."

Oh dear.

Has there been some sort of Net campaign to get it onto the list? I have to wonder if the producers were in some way pissed off.

BTW: I've never seen LOTO.

Ah, legend of the overfiend. One of those famous films that noones ever seen.

I think it hold the record for "most giant knob monsters in an animated film".

Slippery PD

Ive only ever seen about 3 bits of Manga and Legend is actually one of them.  Terribly its romeo and juliet, with demons and humans.  That and Guyver put me off Manga.  The plot was hackneyed and terrible.....

Badmovies.org (see my links thread) seems to have the best handle on these things...

Actually, those interviewed were completely clueless about anime in general, even Johnathan Clements - who writes the anime column for JD Megazine.  There was some bloke who was quoted on just about everything shown who didn't even know the plots.

As for Overfiend - this was back when Akira first broke the western market for anime.  Manga Entertainment were buying up any old crap and producing terrible english-language versions that played-up the swearing and completely changed the context and content of what characters were saying, leaving animated stories with a bit of potential as nothing more than childish and immature wank-fests that insulted the intelligence.  This practice persists to this day, sadly, and Manga Entertainment aren't the only culprits.
And don't get me started on how shite the translations of Japanese manga comics are - dire beyond belief, in some cases.

Any programme about 'cartoons' (WTF does that mean anyway?) that has interview subjects like Ziggy Marley (?!?!) clearly has no worth or intelligence behind it. Saw about 15 minutes of this, had no idea how it was voted for it (apparently it was in Time Out), and even less idea what the criteria was. Apparently it was film and television, but was dominated by American rubbish, as per usual.

I've seen LOTOF (am I the only one?) after I mistakenly won it from a film magazine. My friend, who saw it on some scud NTSC copy at uni said that we had to watch it, so a few of us gathered to watch it, and it was just off the wall. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, it was completly baffling, and just seemed to be about lesbian school-mistress multi-dick monsters attacking underage girls (the Japanese do seem to have a cultural obsession with schoolgirls, don't they?).

After 45 minutes we had to make him turn it off, since none of us could understand what in the name of Cliff Richard was going on, and it was also pretty repetitive and boring to boot.

Overfiend is a strange one.
I like it for the total assault it makes on the senses, but the storyline, what there is of it, is rubbish.

I couldn't watch that show last night, I ended up shouting at the 'experts' and had to switch it off. I mean, give me the money, and I'll sit and describe what happened in the clips of the cartoon I was sent before recording my links.
And as for the 'comedians' interviewed. They must have good agents, because they were as funny as your mum dying.

Jared Katooie

"They must have good agents, because they were as funny as your mum dying."

With Jimmy Carr (who could have guessed?) presenting they almost seemed good by comparison.

That said some of the comments were incredibly annoying "Oh, they must all have been on drugs", "They were definitely on drugs", "That character was on drugs". Towards the end I was wishing for bad things to happen to them.

Shit program...the lack of time given to some of the entiries was criminal. I mean you have Jungle Book and yet what do we get? Some twats singing the songs when we could have oh, lets a dicussion on the fact that a) it was Walt Disney's last film and b) how Walt saved it from disaster by lightening the tone and adding more songs.

And that's just one example...I also would be more annoyed at the fact that Disney didn't dominate the top 10 (sorry I love the Simpsons but nothing will beat the likes of Snow White, Jungle Book, Beauty and The Beast and Robin Hood) if I hadn't rationalised on the grounds of there being sooo many AAA disney films that they were splitting the voting too much.

P.S. The Carr bloke is a fucking wanker who I wouldn't tire of seeing him fed to live sharks.
