There would have been no DoC without AW, plus I'm docking a point for the appearance of the Dark Judges, a step too far in my view. For its world-destroying, game-changing, Carlos-returning hugeness, it has to be The Apocalypse War.

Hmmm this is a difficult one. Both pull together many previous threads, have huge legacies, and King Carlos draws all of the main epic. I don't think I can put one above the other, so will abstain.

I'm going to contradict myself from the America/Judge Child vote - is TDM an epic in its own right or even a proper Dredd story? It does however remain one of my favourite Tooth stories of all time, the atmosphere, the reveal, the Sisters - just brilliant. ToD is great also, but I'm going with my heart here and voting for The Dead Man.

America is significant and memorable, but it's not an epic nor arguably even a Dredd story. As the other option is definitely both of those, my vote is for The Judge Child.

Dammit, I knew a choice between these two was coming. I don't mind the variety of art on Oz and the two storylines, both seeding things to come. Chopper was the ultimate free spirit in Dredd's oppressive world, and his surf across the Pacific was joyous. And then there's Wagner tearing down most of what he'd built, the steady climb and then the ultimate crash. Because I think Wagner should have gone with his original instinct and not brought the Dark Judges into DoC, Oz pips it for me.

Machine Law is a great example of recent Wagner building on what has gone before, but an epic? Nah. Wagner building on what had gone before in the first months of the Megazine and rightly held up as an iconic story, but I'm still not sure it's an epic. However, of these two, much as I love ML, I'm going for America.

The Judge Child had the holy trinity of Bolland, McMahon and Smith, and the introduction of the Angel Gang. But the tenseness and the Judge's absolute certainty they have to remain in control of the city, Dredd's terse relationship with his family, MacNeil and Flint at the top of their game, including three full-pages by Flint of the same scene at different stages of destruction, mean my vote goes to Terror/Total War.

I voted for Necropolis in previous rounds with one of the reasons that The Dead Man was included. Then I went back and read Alex's blog again and saw The Dead Man was listed separately...but Necropolis is still brilliant and I stand by my votes.

Anyway, TDTLD has its moments: Kleggs, the wall, Ron Smith's first work on Dredd - but, as it's one of my all-time favourite Dredd stories, for me it has to be The Dead Man.

Mandroid is great, but I agree It doesn't feel quite like an epic. When it's up against such a behemoth, Tour of Duty gets my vote.

I get the love for The Cursed Earth, I really do. But when so many gaps in Justice Department's history are filled in, Carlos draws the whole thing, and it seeds Tour of Duty, for me it's Origins.

The Pit arguably set the standard for modern Dredd. But the destruction of half the city and Dredd's revenge, the triumphant return of King Carlos, and so many iconic moments mean The Apocalypse War carries it here.

As Rob Williams' first solo long-form story, Titan/Enceladus has a lot going for it - threat to the city, Dredd broken, Henry Flint - but it's up against the ultimate Dark Judges epic. So it's Necropolis for me.
