Heh, he talks rubbish but he's entertaining. I'm half enclined towards PS3 myself as I own a PS2 and the Nintendo games don't really appeal to  me. That and I don't like Microsoft much, but the 360 games are definitely appealing.

It'll be a while before I can afford either anyway, but hopefully the PS3 will pick up steam over the next year or so.

General / Re: From Hell

I picked up From Hell recently from my Library. It's something I put off (the dull monochrome look didn't grab me), but after seeing the earlier posts I figured I'd give it a try.

Glad I did. As far as the art is concerned, once I'd gotten used to it and gotten past my (shame on me) monochrome prejudism, I thought it was wonderful. Such detailed images.

Spoilers ahead.

The tour of London, whilst having some interesting points, I found rather dull and boring. I think the Doctor could have just come to the point much quicker, but the art in those sections, the recreation of certain 'talismanic' landmarks was amazing.

Apart from that, the rest of the book I thought great. Quite shocked by the sheer level of gore and sexual explicit imagery but it was an interesting story.

I'm sure some of the references and greater themes passed me by, although I think I get the main points. I liked the whole temporal awareness metaphor and the idea he is the scaley ghost he referred too was interesting. (I like time bendy stuff like that.)

It doesn't rate as hight as V for Vendetta in my estimation though but it was an interesting thought provoking read.

I wonder if Arkady actually has all the Romanov powers. Kind of like a swiss army knife deal. I didn't get what the bionic eye thing was about, is it part of the targetting system for his energy power? I wonder if he'll be generating little biomechanoid critters at some point.

I never read the earlier stories (although this is encouraging me to pick up the earlier novels) but do you ever see his father use his own powers wheâ?¬n he was alive? If so what were they?

I saw a model of Grendel's mother on play.com...
Hang on, I'll just find it....

POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD

http://www.play.com/Gadgets/Gadgets/4-/3344587/Beowulf-Grendal-Mother-Movie-Figure/Product.html"> Here you go.

I haven't seen the film yet, although I have seen a clip with the gold naked Angelina Jolie. Have to say that creature doesn't look much like her does it? I'm wondering if she changes (i.e. an illusory seductive mode, and a monster mode if that makes sense.)

Anyway should find out if I watch it. I hope this turns out to be the case anyway. I'm not against attractive looking monsters, but Grendel's mother wasn't depicted that way in the original poem. Come to think of it I don't think her appearance was described at all (it's years since I've read the poem) but she was no sex siren.

Actually Microsoft did do it too from what I read somewhere, but I might have misread that...

I've been inclined towards the PS3 partly as 1 I own a PS2 and 2 I dislike Microsoft. This phasing out of the backward compatibility is a bit of a nuisance though. On saying that... I suppose it's not much of an issue since you can always play old games PS2 anyway. Trouble is that's more space and a lot of swapping cables palaver...

I have to admit, despite my dislike of Microsoft (and the stuff concerning the earlier 360 problems just confirms this...) Bioshock makes it seem worthwhile.

Of course I can't afford either so it makes little difference. I wonder if the PC version would work on my laptop? It's has a dual core processor, but it's not really a gaming machine though....

Anyhow...

I guess Davidson really was Tennant's Doctor.

Actually, I remember David Tenant being asked who his favourite doctor was, and he mentioned someone else.... I think he said Tom Baker. Of course, his doctor and the er, doctor's er doctor might not be the same.

I wasn't too sure of it when I first saw it. Even now it is kinda daft but it has it's great moments. I find the surreality entertaining though. Last episode was so-so, that magical cockney geezer "Eeel!" seems a bit recycled from other series. The one with the bad mexican accents and the Betemax bandit was probably my favourite.

Help! / Re: Judge Dredd The Complete Case ...

I saw an alien tourist couple in a story a few issues back. They were asking Dredd for directions and he shouted at them. "Do I look like a travel bureau to you?" (Not the exact words, I forget the correct term.)

So the idea of 'ask a policeman if you're lost' doesn't apply to judges then. ;)

As for the Apes, I remember seeing them in the first case files. Are they genetically engineered, or are they supposed to be a part of future evolution?

Is Harry chucking a spike at Adele at the end?

I believe it's the throwing knife she wounded him with earlier in the episode.

I forgot this strip in my mini-review above. Definitely one of the more interesting parts of this story... but that's not saying much. Not that it's that bad, it just drags a bit.

Definitely a good one. (Came a day late for me, but still a day earlier than it's actual out day, so no complaints.)

I think the artist who did Sinister's gun on the cover got it wrong though. It might just be the angle but it looks like a regular automatic rather than the 'minigun' he uses in the actual strip.

Great stories though.
Dredd: Good. So after several of his judges are dead he no longer feels any sympathy for Nate then? After going in all guns blazing and shooting first? Poor Dreddy... (Not a criticism of the story, just the character's reaction...) This is one of the more interesting Dredd stories I've read since subscribing to the comics though (along with the Mutant story line), raising moral issues rather than the usual Dredd gets his man stories. (Not that they're bad either.)

Red Seas: Ok, still slightly lost since I haven't read any of the others, but at least getting an idea now...

Sinister Dexter: Good old fashioned shooting action.... At that range the two gun sharks should be dead but that's all part of the fun... (By the way, aren't miniguns supposed to be those big rotating gatling style machine guns usually mounted in helicopters? Like the one the big cowboy in Predator uses (out of the helicopter in his case)? Is this the future upgrade, a handheld model?)

Nikolai Dante: Good. Bit of back story but current story advancement too.

Megazine / Re: Meg 265 - Rex and Violence.......

I watched part of that some while back. It sucked (not pun intended) big time, and the acting was terrible... although that gave it a certain comedy appeal. At least I got the impression it was very much toungue in cheek. It didn't keep me watching though.

The Armitage strip looks promising at least.

That old meg I picked up from ebay had an episode in it and whilst I admit I can't judge an entire story by that, it looked promising. There was also a story set in a Russian mega city involving a judge with a talking horse which was very amusing (although from what I've read it's not everyone's cup of tea.)

As for Tank girl, that's always been a seperate comic hasn't it? Are they going to include bits of the current graphic novels in future Megs, or will it be whole new stuff?  Haven't read much Tank girl, but the little bit I did read seemed a lot of surreal nonsense. Not that I mind a bit of surreality, but it didn't make any sense at all. (It involved her riding a bike through the sky and having orgasms... that and lots of colours like something out of a hippy dream or something.) Again that was a brief snippet from a quick perusal in a library. The entire story might be good.

The film showed promise... although it was kinda rubbish overall.

I bouth the meg today... I've subscribed to 2000AD for a few months now, but haven't followed the Meg. Not sure if I'll continue, (this issue wasn't as good as 2000AD in my opinion, although I like the idea of expanding into Dreddworld more), but it wasn't that bad.

Didn't really like the Blood of Satanus thing.. art or story (although to be fair shouldn't realy judge the story having not read most of it... but the ending seemed pretty dire...) I enjoyed the one off Dredd though, I'm undecided on Fink (although I found the sick humor amusing if disturbing.)  I though Tales from the black Museum was funny though. "Boom!" heh heh. Obviously a "Tales from the Crypt" swipe, but good for all that. Is the propietor a zombie or like thing?

The interviews were interesting too, and I didn't mind the reviews but I have to agree much of the text stuff smacked of filler. Not that it bothered me much but this is the first uptodate Megazine I've read (I got an old one from ebay once, way back when I was deciding whether or not to get 2000AD or not). I can imagine it could get old quick on a regular basis.

Took me a little while to get that joke. I was expecting an ugly face to suddenly pop up on screen or something, then the penny dropped....

Sick, sick joke. Sick joke.

Very funny though.
