Title: Are we getting any action figures from the new film?
Post by: Dreddzilla on 09 February, 2012, 07:25:13 AM
Has there been any word if we'll see DREDD action figures?
I mean even ''The Hunger Games'' is getting a series of action figures and so far there is no word on any DREDD toys? :eh:
And those pricey (yet awesome) Comic Replicas don't count.

Doesn't 3A own the action figure rights?

3A has a licence to produce and sell 2000 AD action figures. Our licenses are, for the best part, non-exclusive so we could grant licenses to other companies.

If any toy companies did want a toy license from us though, the proposed figures would have to be considerably different from what 3A is doing, out of respect to Ashley and his team who are doing a great job.

That's interesting, thanks for the clarification.

And yes, Ash and 3A are doing a great job!

As for movie likeness figures - that doesn't rest with us, I'm afraid.

Dredd is going to get an adult rating whereas Hunger Games is for Y/A - might not look like much of a viable option for Toy companies.

Planet Replicas don't make action figures, 3A do and yes they are expensive, but worth every penny when you see the amount of hard work and capital it takes to get them made.

The Hunger Games is essentially the new Twilight - the size of it's audience should not be underestimated. It's a much bigger deal than Dredd.

I reckon someone will show an interest in producing merchandise if Dredd is a reasonable hit. For now it's far from a safe bet.

Well, many would say the same of videogames, comics and cartoons.

Having said that, I don't personally buy action figures or replicas or anything like that - never understood the appeal - but each to their own.

Films like the Terminator and Aliens were rated 18 and you can buy figures based on characters from those films.

Unlikely but wonderful would be if McFarlane did the figures , mini-busts and those 1:1 head busts

Both far bigger IP's than Dredd. The figures for both properties were released long after they had become popular franchises.

There was a fair bit of Alien merch released with the original movie- no, I don't have any of it, but I do have a copy 'Space Adventure Collectibles' (http://www.amazon.com/Space-Adventure-Collectibles-T-Tumbusch/dp/0870695657) knocking about somewhere- which is worth tracking down. A board game too, if I remember rightly.

Yeah, someone I knew had one - or it might have been a re-issue, the skull casing was a translucent plastic bit that could come off, then Cameron ditched that part of the design for Aliens.

I remember getting the comics adaptation from my parents, because I was too young to see it at the pics - remember it being pretty good.

My younger brother had that Alien figure, when you pressed a switch in the back of his head his jaws opened and the secondary jaws pushed out. Action Man never knew what hit him. I bought an Alien vinyl kit in the 90s (Produced by Mpc I think) which used the same moulds as the action figure, unfortunatley it did not feature a working jaw mechanism. I also had the Alien movie adaptation, in my opinion, some of Walt Simonson's best work. Will we be getting a Dredd movie comic book adaptation? From Jock perhaps?

Famously the figure didnt sell at all. And a good few stores wouldnt stock it either. The mould for the Alien has been used by a quite a few differant company over the years, so its a familiar looking beast. The original is worth quite a bit though. Why 20th Century Fox would licence so much stuff, from an X cert film, to kids, is strange to say the least. Kenner created some Star Wars sized Alien figures, but these never got past the prototype stage.

I don't do much merchandise buying. Not much in to figures or statuettes. However I have most of the 2000ad  Heroclix figures & some 28" miniatures.

What I would seriously buy is Dredd or 2000ad Lego. Would love some lot that.

When my wife bought me the Halycon 1:1 scale Facehugger kit, from a hobby shop back in the 90's, she remarked on the similarity between the alien head and a penis to the red faced 17 year old lad on the till. She then pointed to the underside of the (built up) Facehugger kit suspended above his head and said sternly "....And that looks like womens bits!" The poor boy forgot how to work the till after that.

If you mean merchandise, I don't think there is any. Or at least none announced.

If it's the film, Lionsgate overseas and Entertainment in the UK.

Pop Culture Shock have made a very cool Judge Dredd diorama (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=901843) that will ship in September when the movie premieres. But it's not a movie version of Dredd, it's a classic 2000AD version with Call Me Kenneth!

I think Dredd should be aiming for the sex-toy market instead, it's really ready-made for transposing:

The leather uniforms are all ready fetishistic, with Daysticks, respirators, collars, gauntlets etc.

Dredd helmeted dildos, Anderson blow-up dolls, cuffs and perp holding-post

It's a gold-mine of R-rated goods.
