Help! / Re: A name for a boy

Quote'Or hell, just call him Conan'
My nephews name is Conan, was a bit odd at first, but it suits him.
Tord is right, Jack is a real all round name cant go wrong with it.
We have named two of ours after relations, Kate after both grandmothers, Brendan after grandfather, and Fiadh just because we both really liked it.
Naoise is another boys name we really liked but someone did point out that its a bit girly, and they may have a point. Flynn is another boys name we considered, liked that a lot.

Best of luck anyway, hope everything goes well.

General / 2000ad on a roll.
20 July, 2009, 01:43:39 AM
Not a bog roll!!

Anyway, rather than rarely post and start a load of threads, I offer some thoughts on the recent crop of 2000ad stories. If anyone is interested, that is.

First of all Pat Mills, where to start. ABC Warriors and Slaine, inoffensive, would much rather see Langlys efforts put to something new with Mills, these strips are 15 years past their glory days.

On the other hand Im really enjoying Greysuit, simple action story, reminds me of Dredger for some reason. Savage, brilliant one of the best stories of the last year, anyone else see the irony in Britain being freed from oppression by an invasion fleet from Dublin?  Mr 10% as Richard Branson was fun, wonder where that will lead. Goddards art jarred a little but has made it his own, more more more please.

Defoe, love the art, the in story I feel a bit lost sometimes, wouldn't be very clued in on 17th century English history, but still good fun, witty, not taking itself too seriously. Tomazine=Granuaile,Grace O Malley,Pirate Queen?   This been a Mills Story, cant help think that its Millsverse, It has a Nemesis feel to it, the Angels, anything to do with visitors from the future, Torquemada(2000ads) was knocking around a couple of centuries before.

Cradlegrave is Smith at his best, the end I was dissapointed with, but on rereading it, like all good Smith stories its uncompromising, it makes you work.
Smith is one of the few writers that have created iconic characters for 2000ad, yet he never gets the credit he deserves.
He has written a lot of stuff that I havent enjoyed as much as I would have liked, but I would gladly read 10 unenjoyable Smith stories  to read another as good as Cradlegrave.

Red Seas, love it, would like it to have more room to breath,  I always feel that everytime it returns that a lot has happened mid series, never mind  mid panel.

Sin Dex, has got Tom Tully disease, goes on forever, well written, very enjoyable, but never ends.

Dredd, I have little to say about him except if he isn't good, the rest of the mag lacks, Ewing is a revelation both on his own series and on Dredd, but the godfather is still knocking out the buisness, wonder where the next epic is going. Dave Taylor is a revalation, the first Anderson story he did I wasent so keen, but all his  Dredds are the buisness.

Stronty Dog, its got Wagner, its got Ezquerra, Its got class, its comic gold, I want it to continue forever, its got my favourite character ever, but it still lacks something.
If it continued from the point of view of the first(and second) of  the 'new' series as been Apocrypha, personaly it would have worked much better as opposed to 'here is some missed adventures'. Im still happy with them though!

Dante, more of the same please, more Fraser please, more Burns please.

Bob Byrnes Tales, this is what 2000ad is about for me, most of them I get, some of them I work at, like the Mills game 'Tomb of Terror', one of two have gone over my head. More please, a welcome addition to the 'Shock,Twister,Terror' roster.

Zombo(As I drink more the comments are getting more concise!)After seeing his writing on the shorts he did on the 200?ad book a few years ago. I wondered why Flint didnt do more. Congrats to Flint and Ewing for having the oppisite side of the coin to Cradlegrave, classic stuff.

Other than 2000ad, I recently bought a Solano Lopez page of Janus Stark from the Valiant. What is sigignificant about this is that Mary has decreed that it is of sufficient quality to go on public display (its retro of course) in the hall. Happy days!

Anyone spotted the space shutle or  space station, going over in the last few nights, around 11pm, in the n-eastern sky. (Thats from the west of Ireland) Pretty cool seeing it, Last time I saw the space station it was on a drunken night out in Clifden with Mary, must be 15 years ago. As yer man on the telly would say,'good times'.

Help! / ebay help
02 July, 2009, 10:39:09 PM
Hope you dont mind but I need some on advise on ebay.
I won an auction for some comics which had postage listed for Ireland. I paid promptly and after a while i got a mail saying that the comics were Posted. Got another mail after a while saying comics were not posted as the postage was going to cost more.
I won the auction cheap, so I suggested going halves on the extra post. I got a reply saying that unless I paid the whole extra post the comics would not be sent.
I sent an email back saying that i didnt have to agree to the extra post but on trying to be reasonable I would let the offer stand, or else I would have no alternative to report it to ebay.
Got an mail back with a request to cancel the auction, and if I still wanted the comics the would contribute a third to the post.

DoI have to agree to the cancellation of the auction? Can I demand that the comics be sent as won on the auction? Should I just bite the bullet and save my own annoyance and agree to the cancellation.

Advise and opinions appreciated.

Cheers

Jock,        Henry flint and Jock have done the best modern interpetation of Dredd, be nice to see him again.

Jose Ortiz,      He is one of the best  comic artist in the world and he didnt  make an inpact in 2000ad a because he was drawing talking Rhinos!  give him another lash!

Brendan McCarthy, Great artist, off the wall Dredd, he never really had any other strip (I dont count Sooner or Later since it was so short). Al Ewing and McCarthy would team up well IMO.

Mind Wars from Starlord was great, I remember two future shocks as well, the one on the sun, and the one where rabbits are rangers on a human reserve.
I remember tonnes of stuff from my older sisters (not mine you understand!) annuals. Great artist, its a pity there is not more of his European/American material(and others like Lopez and Ortiz) available in English. Or my french and Spanish was better.
Pity no one would reprint Mind Wars!

QuoteIs Just a Pilgrim any good?
First one is good, would fit into 2000ad well, the second strays into preachy territory, not as good.
