Title: GTA V
Post by: Link Prime on 16 August, 2013, 08:51:28 PM
So; it's a mere 4 weeks away, and I'm busily trying to clear the decks of any other games currently in play (Darksiders 2, will you ever end?) to ensure all available gaming / real life time will be furrowed into this.

From what I've seen so far, I'm excited. Predictably so.
The announcement yesterday regarding an online mode akin to 'Red Dead Redemption' is the icing on the cake.
Nothing warrants your devotion like those first few days playing a new GTA- lookin forward to cappin somma you fools in the near future!

I took sick days to play San Andreas, but never even finished the dull GTA4.  Saints Row 4 is out next week, though.  WOOHOO!

This game looks absolutely incredible, but there's simply no way ill have time to play it, especially during the next few months which are likely to be mental...

San Andreas got a bad rep i think it's an awesome game i still play it on the PS2 and PC i wish it had been online with lots of players on the same server.

San Andreas never really clicked with me, I think it was the whole gang culture thing that I just find a bit stupid.

I love the series though but I never seem to complete any of them, there is almost too much to do and too many opportunities to just arse around instead of getting on with the game  :).

I hope they do a better job of the PC version this time around, I ended up getting the last on on the PS3 because of how shoddy the PC version of 4 was.

Played them all to death.  Love the basic premise of the game.  Be a feckin' hooligan!  Online? Not sure if I'll dig it or not, but I'll certainly give it a whirl.

Due to the fact actual shops are a bit thin on the ground, I'm gonna pre-order this online.
Anyone spot a good deal?

Cheapest I've seen is £35 at Greenmans Games. You can trade 2 games at Shopto and get it for a fiver - this offer includes some fairly old/shit games too...
Title: Re: GTA V

I've never really played Grand Theft Auto. All the stuff about shooting prostitutes etc really put me off.
I haven't actually been a big fan of Rockstar's output in general - the horse riding mechanic in Red Dead ruined the game for me and I thought Max Payne 3 was as dull as ditch water.
GTA 5 does look interesting though and I'm sure it'll be a massive technical achievement. I may try to get it on rental somewhere to see if I like it.

Must be sold out Pete, can't see it.

I'm looking for a PS3 copy which generally seems to be a little bit pricier that the 360 version.
Amazon or Play.com might be the safest bet to ensure I get a copy ASAP.
Gruddamn 60 Euro...
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: radiator on 19 August, 2013, 10:55:32 AM
I'm in the minority, but I thought GTAIV was the best of the bunch so far. Where others criticised it for being 'boring', I saw an attempt at making a slightly more realistic, more weighty, more grounded - and as a result, more immersive game. The crazier, overpowered, jetpacks and rocket launchers, instant gratification side of the GTA games - something Saints Row now specialises in - to me gets very boring after half an hour or so. The game is much more interesting to me when it is more restrained in scope. In GTAIV I got a lot of enjoyment out of simply driving around the city, taking in the sights.

Post by: Link Prime on 19 August, 2013, 11:14:32 AM
I really enjoyed GTA IV too Radiator, and the subsequent 'Episodes'.
Personally, my all time favorite was Vice City. It was just so cleverly put together and enjoyable.
And that soundtrack...I actually bought some of the CD's, and still occasionally listen to them on the iPod to this day.

Just bought a copy of GTA V on Amazon there by the way, worked out 55 Euro incl. postage, so not too bad.

Thought 'screw it' at that price it's worth a punt even if I can only play it for an hour or two a week - and I can save an extra fiver thanks to some clubcard points, so ordered a copy....

....or would have done, were it not for Tesco having the most cretinous, obnoxious checkout I've ever encountered. It can't find my address on its system, and as there's seemingly no option to manually enter an address, its impossible for me to place the order.

Nice one, you fucking chumps.

Wonder how much revenue that harebrained oversight loses them per year?

I can imagine with this GTA that I'm never going to have time to do all of the missions and whatnot, but I think it'll be so much fun, and weirdly relaxing, just to wander around aimlessly.

I used to do that in GTAIV sometimes - just go sightseeing - but the whole countryside angle should really bring a new element to it.

I'm away next week (release week) but have it on pre-order from Amazon so will be waiting for me when I get home. Apparently if you pre-order it we are getting a free blimp and dlc, which should be fun...

Can't wait to get stuck into that map, don't think I'll ever see everything it has to offer.

BTW my PSN is dodsy if anyone from here fancies causing some havoc with GTA online when if launches, just drop me a message with the friends requests so I know who you are.

(On a side note regarding the size of the map: Is there a comparising next to the Skyrim map? That was bloody huge as well, just how they compare)

In real life or in the game?

I used to do this in Zelda - Ocarina of Time sometimes (but obviously I was on Epona).  Goodness knows what aimless fun can be had with a map of that scale.

And I think that's the mark of a truly great game - one where you don't mind tootling around doing nothing much of anything (as opposed to ones where you are frantically scrabbling around trying to figure out what you are meant to be doing next).

Oh, and if you get your hands on a copy of the XBOX version, only install one disc. It messes up the graphics or something if you install both.
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: Professor Bear on 17 September, 2013, 07:46:10 PM
I used to think a lot of the moaning about GTA's chauvinism was misplaced, based as it is on the assumption that the game universe isn't an equal opportunities offender when it comes to the stereotypical portrayal of men and women both, but it's hard to deny when we're at the 15th game in the series and still no playable female characters even when the hook of the current game is that there are three main payable characters at all times.

I saw the amount of chav scum* lining up for this last night at the Xtravision/Tesco midnight openings and realised that once they were sold out a lot of those people - mostly kids - running around in the small hours around my estate whooping and hollering would be very disappointed.  Naturally, I decided to go and buy a copy to help make this moment happen sooner.  Glad I did - my gripe with GTA4 was not, in retrospect, that it was po-faced, joyless, and aimed at people who want to take things far too seriously, but based on GTA5 it was in fact the lack of variety.
I must have failed that very first GTA5 mission at least seven times, as once I was behind the wheel of a car I ditched the mission (to drive from A to B) and instead drove like fuck and within minutes was out of the city, being chased across a dam by cops, cutting across country and mowing down a herd of goats in the process, crossing rivers, deserts, passing shanty towns and suburbs along the way - and I still think the actual horizon  is a bit of a ways off, not that I got near it as the pigs did for me shortly as I'd picked the red car that handles like a brick.  Once I did the first mission and got to wander about, I still didn't get very far as the map is so huge it is practically impossible to get anywhere without committing a crime, though fair play most probably don't have the impulse to do a running clothesline on everyone they come across like I do, but hey - what kind of world is it where you can pass a skate park full of hippies and not skid 180 degrees to go back and mow them down?  Not a world I want to live in, I can tell you.
Fantastic and fun game, though going on the shelf until I get my work done as I can see this bastard claiming even more of my time than Saints Row did.

* I am not saying that people who like GTA are chav scum, I am merely relating that only chav scum were to be seen on this occasion.

Managed to grab half an hour on this last night, but had to call it a day when I could barely keep my eyes open (due to the fact it was very late rather than anything to do with the game).

It all looks hugely impressive so far, though all I've really done in the game is get lost and drive round and round some shipyards, then got chased by a vanful of hoodlums after they picked a fight with me and I beat them up.

It's been a long time since I played GTAIV, so could be misremembering, but the controls feel much tighter than I remember them being - I always feel like I 'm having to make do with slightly twitchy, weightless, unrefined on-foot controls in GTA games, but it feels a lot more weighty in this one.

Exploring in this is so much fun I stopped whatever it was I was doing at one point and tore off towards the horizon after seeing what I thought was a SETI array, and sure enough it was and I ran about like a kid for a bit, then for some reason was at an abandoned airport using the runway for doing high speed wheelies and stoppies.  It started raining at one point when I was in the city and I stopped to look at it splash on cars and paper vending machines and this scabby, wretched-looking man dressed in rags and standing by a shopping cart full of his possessions asked me for any spare cash I might have and then just stood there, his arms not so much attached to him as hanging off him as it poured down.  This is a really well-designed game that brilliantly captures the hair's breadth separating the luxury and squalor that exist side-by-side in a major city.
Also you get to play as a Rottweiler and bum other dogs.

Like most of you, I abandoned the missions after the first car-chase one, and went exploring.

Wound up taking a cable car to the top of Mt. Chiliad in the middle of the night- spooky Silent Hill type moment when I found a drawing on the wall with reference to
Alien spacecraft
.
Googled it this morning, and there's loads of crack-pot theories  / spoilers out there. Will avoid, and figure this out for myself.

Also; I committed sinister cold blooded murder and got away scott-free; in the middle of nowhere I bumped into some happy-go-lucky chap walking his dog.
Without a second thought I STABBED THEM BOTH TO DEATH, leaving their bodies for the vultures.
Should a video game make you feel guilty?  :D

Played a bit more last night.

As amazing as it clearly is, does anyone else think there's a bit of a disconnect between the hugely atmospheric environment and sense of place, and the ludicrously over the top actions you're expected to perform?

Of course I know GTA is supposed to be set in a heightened, hyper-real universe, but even so it's a bit jarring that you have to gun down 30+ cops in the opening, then later with Franklin, commit mass murder while attempting to repossess a motorbike. As if anyone would be willing to kill a single person - let alone 20 - in such a situation. Even in GTAIV, the first few missions eased you in, asking no more of you than to commit petty vandalism and intimidation.

I think it's the storytelling ambitions of the developer bumping up against the kind of frantic, fast-paced gameplay modern gamers expect which causes a weird disconnect (or 'ludonarrative dissonance' if you want to sound like a tosser) and it's one of the many reasons that I think games don't handle narrative well. It's just especially jarring in this game precisely because it's otherwise so convincing and evocative.

I'm not for a second saying games shouldn't be fun, but I hope that in the next generation things like combat and interaction will be nuanced to the point where they won't have to constantly spam you with enemies to keep things interesting, and just fighting a single enemy could be every bit as thrilling, visceral, fun and demanding as gunning down hundreds of them - which to me feels like a crutch that games have to fall back on.

Still, it's an incredible achievement from what I've seen so far. It says a lot that I actually watch the cutscenes and care somewhat about the story and characters.

One last thing - I can't work out if the game auto-saves? Can you only save your game at your safehouse? Because that seems demented in this day and age if so...

In my opinion, the driving has massively improved over IV.
I'm normally a bit shit at the street races, but had no problem with the first two I encountered in this game.

This is the first GTA game I've really played properly and I'm loving it (played little bits of all the previous entries at friends houses but not really 'got it'). I'm playing it as non-gittishly as possible so far - I feel bad if I run people over for no reason etc.

I find the driving fine and all of the vehicles handle differently. Quad bikes are great fun!

Re; The misogyny thing. It seems to me like the game is trying to say something about how men are portrayed in popular culture (and probably women and children too). Every male character in the game so far has been an archetype - washed up gangster, wannabe gangsta, physically deficient computer nerd, hipster IT workers, slimy car dealer/con man etc.
Title: Re: GTA V

I'm not sure that GTA is guilty of misogyny but it is incredible that they still don't have playable female characters - even if it were just to mix things up.

In terms of archetypes - this is a game and whilst some characters will be around for a while, a lot are fairly disposable so why try and build these into complex characters?  Easier to go with "wannabe gangster" and get back to the action.  Yeah, its an immature narrative but it suits the medium.

I've never had too much of a problem with driving in GTA games, but I'm definitely finding in 5 that I'm crashing/running people over accidentally a lot less.

ISTR in previous games it was very easy to accidentally incur the wrath of the police, but that hasn't happened once to me so far.

I think you're right. It's essentially an advanced form of 'Cops and Robbers' and the characters need little more motivation than that.

Damn it, how GOOD is this game? Seriously addicted. Easily the best GTA ever for me, and a serious contender for all time greats. Only minor niggle is that the missions can be a little scripted and hand-holdy, but it's so polished and fun. Just doing the flight school training is great fun - like a mini Pilotwings! Thought I'd be too busy to play it, but ended up being able to take a few days off. Currently about 30% complete.

Much to my surprise and delight I've been able to spend loads of time on it the last 10 days - and I adore it. Haven't been this consumed by a videogame in a long, long time. I'm actually rationing out the story missions now, and concentrating on hoovering up all of the side missions and other activities like the races, smuggling runs/triathlons/shooting range challenges etc - really savouring it all. My completion is currently around 55% - but I'm guessing I'm probably about 75% of the way through the story missions (I've just
brought down the Merryweather transport plane
).

I dearly want to get to 100% completion, but I'm worried that I'll lose interest trying to find all of the
spaceship parts/letter fragments
. I've only found 4 or 5 of each so far, and don't relish the prospect of going through FAQs/Youtube videos to try and find the rest - I did that with the pigeons in GTA4 and gave up in despair and boredom long before I found them all. I wish they'd built in some way of tracking or finding them - maybe the sonar phone App? I know Chop can help, but can't imagine it being all that effective.

So I got the game a week ago. I've spent countless hours engaged in county wide police chases by car, plane, helicopter and on a few occasions trains. I've stolen jets from the military base as tanks accidentally blasted trucks full of their own soldiers. I've been caught up in massive police shootouts and looked on in awe as downed officers were dragged to cover, blood trailing, by their comrades. I've seen choppers explode in the wind farms, the NOOSE grappling from them being flung far into the Blaine County wilderness.

The games pretty fun, aye. ;-)

Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: radiator on 27 October, 2013, 08:42:40 PM
So a month on, some gripes:

The stunt jumps are a real pig in this one. When you're on a roll doing one after another its immensely fun and satisfying, but success in lot of them often comes down to pure luck and many require you to land in a very specific spot, requiring a lot of trial and error. Whats worse is that there's no option to retry them, so failure can set you back aaaaaages (leading to lots of fannying around fetching an appropriate car etc - doubly irritating when you're in a remote area) and so it can feel like a bit of a jarring throwback to the older GTA games, which were always frustrating. You can exploit quicksaves to lessen this to some extent, but it takes bloody ages to reload a save so you spend much more time staring at the loading screen than you do playing! Also, sometimes the game will handily decide to make your vehicle disappear on a load.

And those stunt jumps in the docks area can eat a dick.

Furthermore, I've finished the main game and am 88% done, but still don't understand the collecting/buying/saving of vehicles at all. Each character has their own vehicles which they start the game with, and these are 'safe', as in they will always spawn outside your safehouse, but when you buy new vehicles, these get delivered to your safehouse, but then sometimes get delivered to your downtown garage, which is really confusing.

Bought vehicles also seem very transient - I spent a bloody fortune doing up a bike for stunt jumps earlier on, and then it disappeared when I loaded a save, and it wasn't stored anywhere - safehouse, garage or even the vehicle reclaim. So when you trash or lose a vehicle, it's gone for good? Kind of makes a mockery of the whole thing, doesn't it? But then the stunt plane I bought will always respawn at the airstrip? It's all frustratingly vague and inconsistent. I know this was a bug early on, but I thought it had been patched? Ialso seem to have encountered an annoying bug(?) where I can no longer call a cab - they are always 'busy' when I try and call, which makes the collecting quests all the more frustrating.

I'm also finding that I really, really, really wish things like stunt jumps, bridges, knife flights etc appeared on the map (as in they appear on the map once you have completed them). I went through with a guide doing all the bridges, but have found I must have missed a few as I am a couple short, and now seemigly the only way to do the remaining ones is to start all over again. Really irritating, and feels very last-gen. While playing through the main game, I would manually mark each stunt jump or point to return to later on the map with a waypoint marker, later on discovering that the game had was randomly deleting them as it went. Literally the only way to complete all the sidequest tasks is to sit with a phone/tablet while playing, looking up maps/guides/youtube videos, which does somewhat drain the fun out of it all.

I also almost lost my rag with the later 'Kifflom' missions and the third (fucking ridiculous) triathalon - which are instances where it genuinely feels like Rockstar are actively trolling the player - perhaps not a wise tactic if they want people to keep buying their games.

I love this game, and really want to 100% it and go for all the singleplayer achievements, but these annoying quirks are really starting to try my patience, especially as I don't get too much time to actually play. Hopefully they'll sort this out in subsequent patches or the next GTA game.
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: JamesC on 27 October, 2013, 09:26:16 PM
I'm really enjoying the game but have no desire to get 100% by flying under all the bridges or whatever.
I just do the bits that I find fun and I really enjoy the main missions.
I haven't bothered with buying vehicles either. Mostly because I don't get how it works, as Radiator says, but also because there seems little point. I can always grab a parked car from nearby and I find it more fun to just grab whatever's lying around than to drive the same thing all the time.
I think if they're going to put systems in the game they should make them work properly though!
Once I've completed the main story I'll probably move onto the next game in the pile but I'll remember this as being the most fully realised open world I've played in.
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: radiator on 27 October, 2013, 09:51:46 PM
I don't play many retail home console (as in boxed) games any more - for example, aside from Vanquish and Bayonetta which I bought and didn't get into, before GTA V I've only bought Ni No Kuni (Jan 2013) and Arkham City (Dec 2011) in the last few years, but the ones I do play I like to really savour and wring every last drop out of - not because I 'm tight or anything, I just get a lot of satisfaction out of doing so. The notion of just burning through the story mode and then discarding it in favour of something new seems a bit, I dunno, wasteful? I dunno, it doesn't appeal to me personally, each to their own etc. I enjoy the story missions, but with most games that just feels like the entree - In a quality game I get as much if not more enjoyment out of side quests and whatnot. Most games I wouldn't bother to aim for 100%, but then I don't play most games! As for achievements, I pride myself on maintaining an above-average gamerscore for each game, but I'm not mental and will draw the line - for example the pigeons on GTA 4. Stuff like that is just no fun at all.

In the specific case of GTA V, I just adore the game and want to spend as much time in the world as possible. What I love about hoovering up all the side missions and miscellaneous tasks - tedious as it can often be - is that it reveals lots of little nooks and crannies - or even whole entire towns or beautiful scenic spots - that you'd otherwise miss just doing all of the main missions. I'm still staggered at the sheer level of detail and polish they put in the game - it's truly insane. The flying under the bridges thing sounds boring, but it's actually really fun - really mastering the copter controls is like playing with a really good RC copter sim, and playing the flight/parachuting missions feels like a new Pilotwings game or something.

As I understand it, you only need to complete 25 out of 50 stunt jumps to count towards '100%' completion, so there's that.

But yeah, they're incredibly spiteful and unfair. When you attempt them in a car, you invariably hit the sides of the ramp/lorry thing, often through no fault of your own, and fail. But a bike - even a ludicrously overclocked racing bike - doesn't seem to have enough weight and heft to make the specified jump length, and you often die on landing, leading to a lengthy wait to respawn at your safehouse, then another long loading time reverting to your quicksave, so you have to wait in total about 3 or 4 minutes to have another attempt.

To add yet another layer of Xbox controller-endangering frustration, I find that when using Franklin's Slo Mo driving ability to line up the angle perfectly will often cause the stunt jump to simply not register or activate.

Must have spent an hour or more so far trying to crack them, and only succeeded on 1 out of the 5.

In any other game, I would have given up ages ago. The most annoying thing is that it didn't need to be so frustrating!

Well, sometimes you need to. You know that thing where you need a bike to perform a specific task, so you drive round aimlessly for ages and ages looking for a bike, and because of sods law you never see one, yet when you don't need one they're bloody everywhere! Also, you pretty much need to buy special vehicles like the stunt plane, and there are special, or rare, cars that can only be bought.

As to my earlier point, I have just discovered that if you sign up to the Rockstar Social Club website thing, you get access to detailed stats about your game to show which missions and tasks you are missing and a map that shows the location of letter scraps and spaceship parts, and you can also see which ones you have found and which ones you still need, easing a lot of the frustration.

Which is all massively helpful, but so obscure its almost useless. Why couldn't that stuff just be in the game? Or at least included as part of the - largely useless - iFruit app instead?

Also, as far as I can tell the map doesn't show you things like stunt jumps or knife flights.

I was randomly driving around and hit a sign and got a "1 OF 50 SIGNS DESTROYED" or something similar. This is well after beating the same so I've hit quite a few signs. Has anyone else found any "hidden achievements" similar? Now I'm driving around hitting every sign I see hoping to work out what kind of sign's I need to hit.

I believe this is part of one of Michael's side missions for the crazy real estate guy. You have to destroy all of his rival's signs which are dotted around the proxy Hollywood Hills area. If you go to the rival realty firm's website via the browser on your phone (look for the email from him and you can follow the attached link) you can see where they all are, and even set the coordinates to each one to your GPS.

I used a baseball bat for extra satisfaction.

I would say that just finishing the 'main' story missions really is less than half the game - there are tons and tons of 'strangers and freaks' missions, and working your way through them, while optional, opens up lots of extras and activities.

Just finished the GTA V story. It's a great game. My minor niggles are that the shooting mechanic was little frustrating - both the cover system and auto aim were a little inconsistent. The other thing was that I'd prefer the camera to be locked to the position of the vehicle you're driving rather than sort of float about. As soon as you get in a car it should give you a rear view of the vehicle like you'd find in a Need For Speed game.

Neither of these things ruined my overall enjoyment of the game though. It's a brilliant, well written, funny, work of art.

Glad it didnt!

I really don't think I'm in humour to get the 100% on this game, so am wrapping up at 85% with all main missions done and only two 'strangers & freaks' (including the UFO one) left.

Things like the overly long sonar collection side quest and the "Dear Customer: F*CK YOU" 3rd triathlon (where the player has the pleasure of pressing the 'X' button repeatedly for 30+ minutes) made me realize there's better ways to spend my time.

Started up GTA Online for an hour yesterday, very good fun- will be getting stuck in this week.

Heh - did you do the Epsilon missions? They get increasingly trollish as they go. In one you have to wear the Epsilon robes for something like 10 days in-game - basically meaning you have to spend 15 minutes going to sleep and waking up to speed up the day cycle. Then the next one involves you having to walk around on foot in the desert for 5 miles. Frustrating enough, but all the more so because you can be randomly killed by a mountain lion* or abducted by some weirdo who tasers you and leaves you - minus the robes - on the train tracks. Either of these events - or leaving the area - resets the 5 mile counter. And what made this mission especially trying was that I ballsed up the final Epsilon mission and ended up having to do it twice...

*Seriously, fuck those bastard mountain lions. It's bloody ridiculous that they are basically insta-death and are only ever a major annoyance. Moutain lions aren't even particularly dangerous in real life and tend to avoid humans rather than attack them, and it seems especially stupid and contrived that they can basically kill you by gnawing on your ankle once when you can also survive multiple gunshot wounds and car wrecks.

QuoteThe other thing was that I'd prefer the camera to be locked to the position of the vehicle you're driving rather than sort of float about. As soon as you get in a car it should give you a rear view of the vehicle like you'd find in a Need For Speed game.

You didn't seriously play the whole game with the cinematic camera did you?!?!

Tbh I found the standard in-vehicle camera slightly too low, meaning that I had to constantly be nudging it up with the stick so I could see in front of me. This was alleviated by finding out you can set the camera higher up in the options. Weird that they'd make the annoying low angle the default - did no one really flag this as a potential problem during testing?

No, not the cinematic camera, but when you get in a car the camera will sometimes be facing the front of the car and will then pan around to the rear as you drive off. Then when driving fast, if you do sharp turns you'll get a full on side angle view of your car as the camera catches up. I just thinks it makes handling and judging tight gaps more difficult. In a NFS game, for example, you'll never get more than a three quarter angle of your vehicle's rear (and that's only when drifting).
It's only a minor complaint but if you're going to have driving as a main part of the game then handle it like the diving game experts handle it. Same goes for the shooting sections.
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: radiator on 04 November, 2013, 02:23:38 PM
To be fair to them, I think they really tightened up the shooting in this latest one - and frankly, it isn't fair to judge the controls in an open-world game against a linear game - as a linear game is always going to be more polished.

I've had arguments with friends about this, but I still maintain that Japanese devs by and large do the most balanced, tightest and most satisfying videogame controls. Western-made games almost always feel a little too loose and twitchy to me, and GTA - while an improvement, is no exception.

One other slightly irksome thing for me would be the slightly annoying ragdoll physics and the exaggerated falls when you jump into a wall or something. Seems to take the player character ages to stand up again!

It seems weird not to get the latest PS... is it true there is no plan to produce GTA V for next gen systems?? Surely not???

Hey Bubba,

Without getting into a whole Microsoft vs Sony debate, I'd heartily endorse the PS3 over the Xbox 360 due to the fact that PSN (PlayStation Network) is free on PS3, therefore GTA Online (packaged on the same disc as GTA V) can be played for free.

The best deal I've seen out there is this;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-500GB-Super-Console/dp/B00BF6D48I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1383575666&sr=8-3&keywords=ps3+gta+v

From what I've read online GTA V will be released on the next gen consoles (Xbox One & PS4) sometime in 2014.
What enhancements it'll have, I don't know, but I would honestly think there wont be any real difference with the current gen version.
Also, as far as I've read, PSN access will not be free on PS4.

So If you're after GTA V / GTA Online this Christmas- I'd go for a PS3.

Regarding monitors/ TV screens to use for gaming; there are new versions of HD screens brought out every 25 minutes, so for me it would be a matter of popping into your local mass-market electronics store and looking for the best screen for the best price (and shopping around too, as prices vary hugely).

In terms of screens/TVs, the brands to get are Samsung, Sony or Panasonic. For a bedroom a 20-26" screen should be fine, a 32" if you want to be extravagant.

And make sure that you get an HDMI cable if there isn't one bundled with the PS3 - just buy a cheapie one - no need to spend a lot of money on an HDMI.

As for PS3 vs PS4, I'd go PS4 all the way. You may as well future proof your purchase as much as possible and it's almost a given that GTA V will be ported to the new system.
Other than that, if you're going to buy a PS3 leave it as late as you can before buying. The PS4 is released later this month and once that's out the number of second hand PS3s and price deals available will go up sharply.

Although I may go for a 2nd hand number now and trade up later...that seems wise...and yet the kids thought the lack of a free online gaming facility was a deal breaker on PS4...

Just to add my opinion - I bought the PS3 fairly early on and I remember the frustration with the relatively small amount of games available and the even smaller amount or decent ones.  This is 'enhanced' by the frustrating policy of not making these consoles backwards compatible.  So, what will likely happen is a raft of games to coincide with the console release followed by a period of upto 6 months before anything else decent comes out.

I was talking to a mate recently about how I'm a bit worried about my fat PS3 - I really need it to last another 12-18 months because if it were to fail in that time then I would have to get another PS3, beyond that and I would get the PS4 as there should be enough decent games out for it.
Title: Re: GTA V

I know what you mean, Recrewt, that's always a bummer when a new system comes out.
I'm hoping that the delayed launch games may help bridge that gap somewhat. I'm getting AC4 at launch (along with my obligatory Need For Speed purchase), which I'm hoping will tide my over until Watch Dogs gets released in the spring.
There are some promising looking indie games coming out too and I'll be interested to see what PS Plus games will be offered as downloads in the first 6 months (surely some PS3 conversions?)
Title: Re: GTA V
Post by: radiator on 04 November, 2013, 05:41:43 PM
Tbh I've seen absolutely nothing to convince me that I need to buy either a PS4 or Xbone at launch - but then it was the same last generation. It was Halo 3 that finally got me to buy a current gen console, and that came out almost two years after the 360 did. The technological leap from the current gen to the next is also barely there these days tbh - I remember when new consoles meant genuinely new experiences.

It's a cruel irony of life that you reach a point where you can actually, finally afford to buy consoles on launch day, but by then you either don't have the time to play them or are jaded enough that you don't really care.

To be honest, the things I'm looking forward to most are the super quick loading times and the seamless online/offline multiplayer thing.
I've never really been fussed with online gaming but if my mates can pop up in something I'm already playing then it should be fun.

What does seem a bit different this time is that the majority of PS4 launch games will also be available on PS3, including AC4, Need for Speed Rivals and Watch Dogs.

WELL

I go into the subway system to evade the cops, and I see some red dots close by, but no visual. Well, as soon as I shoot them THEY APPEAR! That's right, invisible cops! They can shoot me, and damage me but until I get a shot to hit them, they are "invisible"

as far as glitches go, this one is quite entertaining
