El Spurioso

Just wanted to quickly sing the praises of the 2000AD exhibition currently running in London.  We went to the opening event last night and it's really, really, REALLY worth seeing.

Superb collection of original art for purists, perfectly juxtaposed with dozens of modern interpretations of popular characters by artists and designers.  It has the feel of a genuine cultural showcase, rather than A Bunch Of Geeky Things In A Room.

Major kudos to Rufus for working so hard, and if you're within a plane/train/car trip of London, go see it!

I went along too, lots of cool stuff. I think Will Sweeneys stuff is nice (has anyone seen his comic Greenfuzz?), His stuff and also Pete Fowlers work can be seen at http://www.bigactive.com (along with some other good illustrators).
The Tshirts are great, love TADOs design, think i might have to purchase!
One of the pictures of DR and Quinch by Andy Smith is being sold on his site http://www.asmithillustration.com/printshop.html
Does anyone know if any of the other pics are available to buy?

Fantastic show and a great atmosphere too. More than one London-media-type exclaiming to his girlfriend "you know, I used to read 2000AD." with newly discovered pride.

Highlights for me (apart from the classic original artwork) were a six foot Rogue stencil cut out of steel and lit from behind in blue neon, Rufus' mind blowing (literally) painting of Kano and the cuddly plush Dr & Quinch. There was one girl on the team whose job the whole night seemed to be to stop people from stroking Dr & Quinch!

Its right in the middle of London and costs nothing (I believe) there are few excuses to not go and see it!

Buddy

I'll be checking this out during my whirlwhind stop in london over the new year.

REALLY looking forward to it.

Queen Firey-Bou

hurrah that its on long enough for even the furthest flung squaxx like me to catch, looking forward to it !

I WANT A PLUSH DR AND QUINCH AND I WANT IT NOW!

Went today and apart from opening late, cleaners I ask you!!! was very friendly and as mentioned before seeing some of Rufus's collection is always a pleasure (hope the insurance is up todate!) and the newer takes is interesting...

T-shirts are great, buy while there is still some left, smallest print run is 8.

Backlit metal Rouge is also superb.

If people are in London over the Christmas perios, does anyone fancy a pilgrimage down to see the exhibition? I always mean to go to these things, but never seem to get around to it (like the Crumb exhibition in the Whitechapel gallery), so if other people were involved, I might finally be forced into going.

The Opening was spectacular!
Thank you to everyone who helped and attended!
We crammed in 600 punters and sadly many were turned away.
We were honoured with the presence of so many classic droids, Mick McMahon, Dave Gibbons, Robin Smith, John Hicklenton, Frazer Irving, Cliff Robinson, Si Spurrier, Robbie Morrison, Tharg himself even!
The Death Tshirt glows in the dark!!
There's amazing Judge Hershey Prints, Nemesis toys and totems, and LEGO Dredd and Hammerstein!!
Also a huge Stainless Steel Rogue Trooper backlit in blue, lifesize plush DR and Quinch, a wireframe lifesize 'Perp Mobile' and a cute Judge Death Doll.
AND artwork by Bolland, Ewins, McCarthy, Mcmahon, Ezquerra, Smith, Robinson, Bisley, Hicklenton and more....
And all for free....
11 Shorts Gardens, Covent Garden.
