Colour me intrigued.

The clouds I'd defo say The Mighty Yeowell, the sea less so.

If it is more Red Seas then I'm excited, but seems odd that a series that only finished  2 years ago (almost to the day by the date on the teaser) would return so soon.

Maybe they are going to announce it as the next US series? Both The Mighy Yeowell and Edginton have US name recognition?

...I had so much trouble in finding it I was about ready to give up when I saw someone else at the till with a copy...

You make it sound like you wrestled it off them - now that's dedication!

The title says it all really.

In a better world than ours this film actually exists...

Yes, Gordon Rennie writes a Satanus story which unleashes the fury of Pat Mills for using a dinosaur without permission.

Which I guess is the reason its not seen the light of day since (based on nothing other than my speculation) as even Tharg dare not evoke the wraith of Pat Mills. Means you'll have to track down the Progs (1241 -1246) for that one. Its not bad... not great, looks lovely.

As for you Dark Jimbo, well done that man.

Wow Dark Jimbo that's great. Not seen that before and a very useful response to questions such as this. Is it something you whipped up or discovered elsewhere?

How dare you pull through after that weepy lovefest? Anyone with any consideration would have refused the defibrillator and gone stoicly to the other side rather than ruining a proper emotional tribute.

It would have been difficult to have put it better. I have to say I'm disappointed in you, very disappointed.

Can I be the first - of what I assume will be many - to retract anything nice I might have said earlier in this thread. It needs to be made clear that my comments were not made out of any affection, merely the fear that if I didn't say anything the rest of the board might think me a bit of a grumpy ratbag.

I assume that you will now proceed to type about letters or some such in the future and again I might read, or even laugh at these posts. This is not to be taken as a sign of affection either...

... of course if you relapse I will now feel terrible and so I'd better wrap this up with a potentially face saving.

Great to hear you are better, may you continue to post here about food and letters and whatever else takes your fancy.

Prog / Re: Prog 1920 - Shooting from the Lip

It could be a double-sized part as there will be a gap. Not saying it will be, but could. Even with 6 pages I think it will manage it just fine, we're pretty much at the end of things now aren't we? Down to
1 and a bit Dark Judges
a plan to finish things seems to be in place, so I think it'll do fine with 6, if it does finish.

All the standard plaudits apply all the more this month. Very well deserved placing (I do wonder how Mr Lambert would have done if he hadn't split his vote? Mind then we wouldn't have got to see two of his exceptional entries - so thank you for the sacrfice Andy!)

CFM is as ever due all sorts of gifts and glory for his efforts.

Well done everyone who entered for making this such a great month.

Books & Comics / Re: Cinebooks

Just read the first two volumes of Red Baron a historical based on the famed pilot (not the long eared one) from the first World War and what a fantastic read they are. From the very first scene we are introduced to a truly compelling and frightening led and the rest just falls away. It really is one of the best openers I've ever read in a comic. The action and aerial hijinks are handled very well, very well indeed, but its the study of this brutal, elegant warrior that makes the book tick. The first volume does that quite exquistity, with plenty of space. The second tries to cram in a little too much history and back story and that clots thing a little. Its still very good just not quite as exceptional as the first.

The art is lush, at times a little two photoshoped-photo-esque but really very good. Another trimpuh for Cinebooks can't wait to get my grubby mites on the next volume which hopefully won't be long in coming.

If you like your comics dark and chilling I really can't recommend these volumes highly enough.

Well its not an addiction yet but since it was lent to me by my boss our next endeavour is The West Wing. Watched the first episode and while it certainly had some nice moments all I can say is I do hope it gets better! After all the praise I've heard of it I suspect it will?

Quite egoistical to quote yourself but wanted to say having finished Season one, all 22 episodes it certainly does. At times its a bit cute, a little idealised (though it does try to balance this) and the music is God awful but its a bloomin' trimpuh and very funny at times. Beautifully drawn characters who always seem to be pulled back from being over earnst and too polished. Great stuff.

That cliffhanger though my gosh that would have been cruel in real time! Need to get hold of season 2 asap!

Prog / Re: Prog 1920 - Shooting from the Lip
28 February, 2015, 03:24:17 PM
Well luckily there's a lot more to talk about this Prog then just the cover (which I think is okay incidently). When you get beyond that its another interesting Prog. Dredd rocks on doing its movie vibe this time with added unnecessary action line tacked on a little horribly 'Hang Around' - really. Still its a bit of a romp.

Survival Geeks is funish and okayish. Far from special and won't hang in the memory long.

The rest though is all very good. Station to Station returns to the form the first part suggested it would have. I'm looking forward to sitting down and reading this as one. Nice story, using its three parts well and concluding satisfactorily. Good job.The Order continues to be an absolute delight and would be thrill of the Prog... normally. However Savage gives us all what we've been waiting for. Bill plays his cards and this has it all. Typical Mills unsubtle current affairs reference, high octane action, wonderful weirdness unlike anyone else could produce and well... a very pleasing way to wrap up a plot point we've all been waiting fo. Well done sir AND I have to say Patrick Goddard's art lives up to this with some work above even his normal high standard, how great is page 5!

Two plodders, three thrillers - working for me this Prog is.

Lovely tribute to Brett Ewins in the editorial too. Well done Tharg.

Sad to hear about the passing of Mr Nimoy. May well have got a bit stuck with Spock but seem to have fun with it all.

Big fan of the Nocenti/JRjr/Williamson run on Daredevil. I think people sometimes get hung up on Nocenti's rather idiosyncratic ear for dialogue, but you quickly get used to it and there was much to admire in the writing. Plus great art.

Cheers

Jim

I've expressed my deep love for this run elsewhere, but suffice to say it was chock full of original, compelling ideas, wonderfully dramatic, has some beautiful realised, atypical characters and JRJR's art has never looked better than when inked by Al Williamson, even when inked by the mighty Janson.
