I would like to share this video that YouTube recommended to me today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkuvnDKXemk

It is a walkthrough of a Knight Lore style fan made game from last year.  I think it looks pretty good, less fiddly than many of these types of games but does have a bit of slowdown when many moving objects are in a room.

Books & Comics / What I Have Learnt From Comics
13 August, 2021, 08:19:53 PM
I have ben reading the 50's collection of Roy Of The Rovers (which is great) and in one story a player gets injured and Melchester are then a man down for the rest of the gane. I thought that sounded odd, why don't they just bring on a sub? I looked it up an apparently teams were not allowed in-game substitutions until 1958 - before that subs were only used for when players didn't turn up for games.

So what else have comics taught me? I seem to remember an early Eagle strip explained how to make a Molotov Cocktail.

Has anybody else learnt anything from comics or do they just turn our brains to mush?

General / The Dreddful Cyber Punk-Cast
10 July, 2021, 04:17:38 PM
There is a podcast called 'The Dreddful Cyber Punk-Cast' that hasn't been mentioned here so I thought I would plug it in case anyone was interested in giving it a try.

It is a Judge Dredd Case Files podcast that is very detailed. Two americans with limited previous knowledge of Dredd or 2000AD read every panel and every speech bubble of every strip and talk about the art in every panel.

Since they started doing the Cursed Earth in CF2 I have been following it with my copy of The Cursed Earth open on my lap and this makes the show a much more enjoyable podcast experience, as they are finding little details in the art that I had never noticed before.

So, it is a show needs a bit more effort from the listener but is fun and interesting and the guys doing it are really enjoying what they are seeing, and are themselves endearing enough. They do like to read Dredd's speech bubbles with a cod-Stallone voice though.

The podcast is available on various platforms (Youtube, Apple Podcasts, Google podcasts, spotify, etc) with varying degrees of updatedness. The Youtube one seems to be the most up to date but is probably the least convenient to listen to.

In some ways, it is a bit like the Great Dante Readthrough podcast. Simon keeps bringing up all sorts of details about particular panels so that it also benefits from having the strip open in front of you while listening.

General / Heavy Metal Dredd
28 December, 2020, 01:19:36 PM
My local record shop here in Malmö, Sweden has a copy of 'Heavy Metal Dredd' in its window for 75 SEK (that is £6.75 in real money). Now, I am not worried about the price as this is obviously not much but I don't want t add another piece of clutter to small flat if I can avoid it so is this worth reading?

I do not know what it is and the cover along with the phrase 'heavy metal' put me off, but John Wagner's name is on the cover so it may be a fun a read. Has anyone got this and can say what it is like? If all the stories are already collected in Case Files then I can ignore it.

I read my 2000AD content digitally on my Android tablet but recently it has been comlaining about running out of storage space. I have tried cleaning it up and deleting stuff but there is a mysterious few GB in usage somewhere and it is not as easy to manage this kind of thing on the device as it is in Windows.

As a solution, I decided to do a factory reset. After this, the first thing I did was to choose to make the SD card the default location in the storage options since it has higher capacity than the internal storage and is easier to manage. I then re-installed my apps.

All apps work fine with the new set up except the 2000AD app. It installs and runs fine but if I try to download a book I get the following message:

QuoteAn error occurred connecting to the 2000 AD Store.

FileNotFoundException - /storage/f623-bbe1/android/data/com.rebellion.app2000ad/files/downloads/prog2125.tmp (No such file or directory)

I think the app is trying to use the internal storage instead of the SD card. I can see that the folder does exist on the SD card. Can anyone offer any help to get around this?

Website and Forum / 2000AD Windows 10 App
10 March, 2016, 07:59:05 PM
Hello, I have just installed the 2000AD Windows 10 app and can not log in to my account. A comments on the store page shows someone else has had the same problem.

I just thought I would bring up the problem here on the forum so others can say 'me too'.

General / Why is non-Wagner/Grant Dredd good now?
23 January, 2016, 10:15:42 PM
I was just wondering this.

From the case files so far it is clear that once John Wagner and Alan Grant reduced their Dredd output and other writers took over things did not go so well. Garth Ennis gradually got better and did some good stuff but from the Case Files alone I would think that Dredd writing is like Dan Dare. Only Frank Hampson could do Dan Dare well and the strip suffered when others tried to do it.

Moving forward to the prog and megazine (which I have only taken up about a year ago) and all the non-Wagner Dredd is very good stuff. Michael Caroll is a name I like to see on the credit box as much as I used to look for Boland and McMahon as a kid, and the Trifecta story from a couple of years back is top quality stuff also.

How is it that writers can do a good Dredd now but couldn't in the past? Have Wagner and Grant produced any kind of 'guide to writing Dredd'?

Welcome to the board / New member - hello!
22 December, 2010, 01:26:16 PM
Hello! I read 2000ad from about 300 to 600 as a child and have recently started to get back into it from getting some JD Case Files. Reading it as an adult I can see there was a lot of humour in it that went over my head as a youngster but now makes it a joy to re-read this stuff.

Sam Slade was my favourite character after Dredd so I will be looking out for the reprints of that too. I have read that they bought Sam back years after the original run but it wasn't as good as the Ian Gibson - TB Grover era. Is this true or is it worth looking out for the later stuff if you loved the original?

Strontium Dog was also great until Alpha was killed off but I have seen he has been brought back somehow.

It looks as though there is loads of stuff out there, thanks to rebellion, so this makes it easy for my family to come up with something for birthdays and xmas.

Hello everyone!
