My faithful old Handycam (8+ years) has developed a fault. The touchscreen lights up as it is supposed to but no longer responds to finger pressure so I can't download it's contents or do anything with it.
I have looked on YouTube for advice but it neither covers my particular issue nor the model of camera I have. Can anyone advise please?

So am I now faced with the prospect of telling my mother that my video camera is broken?
Even though it is over 8 years old & well used she will still complain that I am the death of technology.

HELP.

Some suggest connecting it via USB to a PC and doing a reset. (not sure if that deletes content)

Others say that the ribbon cable connecting the touch screen is broken.

If you're comfortable opening it up, or finding someone to open it that could be worth a try.

To be honest cameras in phones have knocked down the price of camcorders a lot, so unless you can find someone who will do it for free, it might be cheaper to buy another one.

Thank you. If it can be fixed without opening it up I will give it a try. Frankly I don't have the tools to fiddle with electrical equipment.
