We all know Alan Moore, despite his knowledge of the score, hates pretty much every publishing company he's ever worked for except his own one.
However, I recently heard an interview with him (it could have been a very old interview, I don't know) where he said some of the higher-ups in 2000ad fired Carlos Ezquerra by fax.
Though listening to Big Al's interviews is always a pleasure, I think I'll have to call bullshit on this one.  Like I say, it could have been a long time ago, but I can't remember any time in 2000ad history where Charlie the Squirrel wasn't a regular artist.  Unless someone (who doesn't worship an ancient sock-puppet) can enlighten me?

That said, everyone here is ordered to listen to the interview between Alan Moore and Brian Eno.  The hairier of the two finishes it off with one of the best off-the-cuff jokes ever.

Just thinking back to the first comic I ever bought regularly, Nutty, and some of the shit they'd happily show to seventies / early eighties kids which you'd never see at the time.
One scene I remember finding highly disturbing was one from Bananaman, where his alter ego Eric Wimp gets whipped to fuckery with a cane by his teacher - while his classmates are all in stitches laughing.
I also remember the same Eric had to spend every lunchtime at school being literally kicked from one person to another like a football; which also filled me with a horrible sense of pity.  It's the kind of thing you'd only see on South Park, these days.

Recently I looked at a modern-day Beano, which had a full page of 'Fart facts'.  While you wouldn't have seen even a hint of a fart in the comics of my childhood (apert from Oink, but that came later), I'd imagine it's a far healthier thing for kids to read about than vulnerable children having the shit beaten out of them.

Anyone else remember any scenes of pre-PC mentalness in kids' humour comics?

The giant Dredd film banner?

Either that or Karl Urban won't be seeing his family for a while (at least until they pony up for an admission ticket).

I sense a Wicker Tree type ending to this one  :|

wow .... their's has a chain around the dinosaurs neck ....

where the hell did that photo come from ??? it's the matrix all over again ...

It's clearly Mark Millar's Judge Tyrannosaur, after losing his badge.  And if it's a film pitch for a Mark Millar story, it will be made.

Way more obscure, I'm afraid... it's because a Japanese character in Dante once mentioned Shimura. (Shimura's Blade! as a curse, I think. Or possibly Shimura's bones.)

Of course, it could have been a different Shimura, it's a fairly common name according to Robbie Morrison.

If you think about it, you can connect Firekind to Skizz, and the ABC Warriors to Nikolai Dante.  I've just done both in my brainium very quickly.

The whole hostage scene at the start; in particular the icy silence that follows it. Dredd at his most terrifying.  Also the mention of iso cubes, juve cubes and meat wagons. And the bit where the perp shouts 'FFUUUUUUUCKKK OFFFFF!' while firing at Dredd.

But Goaty, the question we all have is, did you get your end away?

If so, it'll be more than I did during my holidays in Barcelona and Amsterdam.  :(
Though I'm glad I resisted the temptation to pay for it in the latter.
A fella I went to school with lost his virginity in 'dam. And it's worse than you think;
his dad paid for it
Jesus wept.  Do you mean his dad paid for the trip or the special lady?

Fukkinell, Goaty, enjoy your sangria and take some photos of your night out, you'll probably need them tomorrow!

I thought the vehicles looked great. Mega City One has always had cars anyway.

True - often thought it didn't make much sense to use a Lawmaster if cars fly.  Not that the Stallone Lawmaster was the solution, mind you

Kudos on all the Kelly Brook pics, she's a babe.

Here's a good looking gal, they should put her in a movie.

Cheers Chief!

So... going to see Dredd again tomorrow and currently planning to try do a roundtable on the movie over skype with me, Flint, Mike Hodder (he's co-hosted one with me before), Luke and The Whittle.

It'll be a total cluster-fuck but hopefully it'll be a laugh

Not sure when the next regular prog review one is due. I'll check in with the Oirish Lad

Sweet! I love a good clusterfuck up the earhole. By the way, I am very curious as to what you all look like. Rich, I pictures you as that mental blond Welsh dude who used to do Vidz on Channel 4 (which I also loved).    Flint in my brainium is one of the sharply-bearded, ponytailed metal-types you always see in Forbidden Planet.  Photos, please, or you will always look like them by default.
