Title: Block War for Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Kickstarter

If you are a fan of this game, try to spread the word, as the last Kickstarter drive this company tried (their first attempt), tanked.

Didn't realise they were doing a kickstarter. I found their stuff the other day, when I was looking for the old Citadel minis online.
I have a copy of the old RPG, but I've not played the skirmish game.
Have to try and get some of the guys down geek club into it!

Pre-painted miniatures aren't my thing, but through that link I discovered the Judge Dredd wargaming rules are free! Now to convince my friends to give it a go. :D

You are correct, you need to paint them, or get someone else to do it ;)

I've pledged on this - not much , unfortunately , but I want a Manta anyway so this kills two birds. I want them to succeed so we can have the Dark Judges made. Still to come , hopefully - Lawmasters and Pat-Wagons  :o

I have no interest in the game but I'm kind of tempted (muststopbuyingstuffgrrrrr) by a miniature or two. They're all just wee plastic things, yes? Anyone understand this stuff better?

No , not plastic , but this wondrous substance called metal!!
There's loads to choose from - I don't have them all yet but am working on it. Can't paint for toffee but I don't mind them raw , as it were. They've come a long way since the Titan figures of the early 80's...

Am I missing something or is it actually cheaper, thanks to the free postage, to get the miniatures via the Kickstarter.

I think when I meet the Wizard I'm going to ask for some willpower  :( ;) :)

My judge squad, finished today after arriving at the weekend.  A rough effort, so maybe an expert wouldn't have been a bad idea.

The models are of a fairly decent quality, with a good weight to them. Some of them have a bit of a rough finish - one of my street judges doesn't fit into his stand, so he'll need to be filed down a bit - but on the whole, they're worth getting.

Now, to construct a lawless city out of cardboard...

Thanks Strontium :)

I can't pm on here, my account needs upgrading. If you give me a list of what you want painted and whether you want it tabletop or display standard, I can give you a quote. No obligation of course. Probably easiest to do it through my Facebook page or you can email me  - old_cho@yahoo.co.uk

Temponaut, those are really neat and clean and you've got some great detail like the teeth. If you wanted to take the next step with them, they'd just need 1 highlight colour in the obvious light catching parts. Then a Citadel wash to blend the highlights and catch in the recesses. If you did that to the same standard as your base coating, they'd be better than most people's tabletop standard. They're already better than a lot of stuff I've seen used.

My mate sent me link to this and I am soooo tempted by this. I have the original 'Gangs of Mega City One' game that this evolved from and it is pretty good. I've recently download the free rules and am gonna have a read before I decide how much to pledge. I am a very keen gamer, board, table top and RPG's and if I had one complaint is that Mongoose often aren't the best at supporting thier products. Although in fairness that has a lot to do with them being a small outfit.

Personally, I'd love to see some one like Fantasy Flight Games have a stab at a new board game, because they're stuff is superb.

As for painting figures, there are loads of gaming clubs all over the country be it Military Gamers or people playing a lot of Warhammer and Warhammer 40K and all most all of them have painting services or members that will do it for you.

Excellent! In that case I just have to decide how much I want to spend. I'm not sure how I missed this on the Kickstarter page:
QuoteImportant: Models are metal and/or resin, and are supplied unpainted and unassembled.
It doesn't reflect well on their in-house painters that I thought they'd been done by a machine in Taiwan.

Ahahaha-ha! My modify button works.  :D

Has anyone seen how well this is going $32K and counting! They only wanted $2K to start with.

Kinda makes you think that if they can get that much for a table top mini's game that even the vast majority of Dredd Heads wouldn't be interested in what would happen if we did one for a sequel movie?!?

Looks like I'm going to go $300 and maybe another $100 for the manta tank  :)

Just wanted to say thank you everyone for your kind support in this project - it has certainly gone past our expectations and you are really helping to make the Judge Dredd miniatures range and game one of the best supported around.

We have just added a new stretch goal, a new pledge level (one which will please the artistically-challenged!), plus some freebies we wanted to hand out in return for the support this project has received thus far.

I have commenced remorselessly intensive nagging of the wife to this end.  As a one-time keen painter of miniatures she may just be susceptible to my worthless whining.

As long as 3A Hammerstein stays off the radar until well after Christmas I may just be able to swing a couple-of-boxes pledge level.

For those that know, are they roughly in scale with the old Citadel range?
Title: Re: Block War for Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Kickstarter
Post by: judge devs on 26 September, 2012, 08:34:40 PM
They are the same scale as the old Citadel ranges.

I shall be doing $300 come payday at the end of the week. Still really want the Manta as well. I keep telling myself I should stop spunking money away on Dredd/2000ad merch but I can't stop myself. I love the fact that they're adding figures from other series as well.

What is it with the 3A Website they have the most annoying website ever, and it also, as far as I can see has fuck all about any of the proposed ABC models.

By the way Mongoose_Matt can we have Johnny Alpha/Wulf/Gronk/Middenface/Durham Red stretch target please. Just as you seem to sticking to the sci-fi stories for bonus characters.

Having said that you could do a Proteous model and we can time travelling for Slaine  :)

Another stretch goal fell this morning - thank you for your support in that. The Judges of the World set will now be added to the range, bringing a distinctly international flavour to the game!

Next up is a stretch goal for characters from the Doomsday for Mega-City One storyline, including two Assassin Droids, Nero himself, and Chief Judge Hershey. We have added Hershey to several of the pledge levels now, so many more people will be able to enjoy what will be a great looking miniature (graphics for the pledge levels will be updated on Monday).

Sandrine is unfortunately ill again today, so I cannot showcase what she is currently working on - that will come next week. So, instead, I will reveal the next stretch goal, one that (with your continued support) will bring some of the worst and most notable villains to bring disaster to citizens of Mega-City One.

It is a great line up; Warmarshal Kazan, Blanche Tatum (as the Executioner, many of you have been asking for an alternative to Megaman for the Lone Vigilante!), Rico Dredd (fresh from Titan!), Sabbat, the Judge Child, Oola Blint (now that will be a fine looking miniature!), Kenny Who?, Chopper (as the Midnight Surfer) and Stan Lee.

These models will be added to the Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels, but the Street Judge and Wally Squad levels will get their choice of any one of these miniatures, while the Council of Judges level will get a choice of three!

I'll be about to answer comments over the weekend, though there won't be a formal update until Monday afternoon. I'll be spending the weekend working on the final updates to the Judge Dredd miniatures game rulebook (constantly fiddling with games is a Games Designer's disease!), and adding more material to Block War. You will be able to download the results to both of these, for free, next week.

Matt,

One quick question, I intend to pledge later today at the Council of Judges level, and possibly at Senior Judge Level for the Manta Patrol Tank as well, but assumedly, the other figures that I choose not to take from the Villians set will be available seperately at a later date. Very difficult to whittle that selection down to three!

Hi there,

Everything on the Kickstarter will eventually be available as normal.

There is another update too;

Another stretch goal has just been past - thank you all very much for your support thus far. Nero and his assassin robots will soon be making an appearence in Mega-City One!

A few things for you in this update...

Sandrine remains ill (nothing too serious, just debilitating), and so some of the vehicles and other accessories I was hoping to show you by now will have to wait a little longer.

However, this does mean we are going ahead with the next stretch goal, and it is for something we know a lot of you have been after - the Mechanismo robots! We will be creating four of these monsters/earnest Law enforcers (depends on your point of view!), covering the Mk I, MK II and Mk IIa variants. Even if you won't allow them on the streets of Mega-City One, they are just perfect for risky missions in the Cursed Earth, Undercity, or alien worlds!

We have also managed to update the Block War supplement. You can grab it from our web site as normal, and you will find some new weaponry, new Mercenaries, and a whole new force - we are showcasing the East Meg Invasion Force for the first time! A perfect foe for both the Justice Department and the Citi-Def (and any punk who objects to invaders on his turf, for that matter...).

We have quite a few things lined up for you this week, including the last update (it really will be the last this time!) of the main rulebook. Could not resist just a few tweaks here and there, and you are going to like what we have done with Talents!

So, stay tuned, and keep an eye out for these updates, as we will have a few surprises and 'cool things' for you!

The $150 pledge level is looking fantastically tempting at the moment - amazing value, about 40 models and a Pat Wagon!  :o

I assume Mongoose has no rights whatsoever to reproduce the movie look?  Even now it's appeared in the Megazine as a strip? A Peachtrees box set stretch goal would really be something (Dredd, Anderson, Ma Ma, Lex, Caleb, Kay, Gatling Gun!).

Excellent, I have already done $300 and may well do another $100 as I mention before. I read the stats for the Manta in Block Mania, holy shit!!

Hugely impressed with the way this Kickstarter has gone.

We have been beavering away on the Judge Dredd miniatures game and Block War today. Most notably, we now have working rules for BIG battles in Dredd and, better than that, specific scenarios to handle Block Wars (up to three players, with a normal force caught between two rival blocks!), last stands in the Cursed Earth, and the Zombie Apocalypse!

We are doing a few more updates to Block War, but you will see all of these a little later in the week.

Second, we have added a new pledge level - Troggie! This is a $4 pledge, but gives you any one model of your choice from the current Judge Dredd range, so you can round out your collection. You can see the list of available models at;

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/jdsingles.pdf

You can, of course, pledge for more than one model, or add to your existing pledge if there are specific models you are after - simply add $4 for each extra model!

Finally, we have added the Weapon Packs to various pledge levels - these are collections of 4-6 weapons from the game that you can snip off and add to existing models, allowing you to customise them as you see fit. Street Judges will get one random weapon pack, Wally Squads and Council of Judges three, and Sector Chiefs and Chief Judges five - no stretch goals to meet, we just wanted to add these as a token of our appreciation for your support thus far!

Matt,

Probably not a priority for you guys when you're in the middle of all this, but I think what's really needed in those Weapons Packs are some Lawgiver Mk I's - several Judge characters are presently holding Mk II's despite having died before the newer model ever rolled off Nero Narcos' production lines.  Pedantic nerdism over.

The Troggie level is a great addition - really opens things up.

We are so tantalisingly close to seeing the ultimate Lawbreakers stretch goal added to Mega-City One!

Just a quick update today.

The Block War supplement itself has been updated, with new rules and scenarios covering what the supplement is really all about - Block Wars!

Actually, the rules for Mobs we have added can be used in a whole range of games, from your normal campaign battles (if you have enough Minions), to last stands in the Cursed Earth, brave defences against hordes of zombies and, well, block wars! In fact, if you really want to go mad, we have made provision for two blocks to go at one another, with another force (we suggest judges!) caught in the middle.

Good luck with that one!

You can download the latest version of Block War from;

Just a mini-update at the moment, as we may well have another a little later today...

First up, the Block War supplement has had an update, and is ready for you to download from;

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/jdblockwar.pdf

This time around, we have cleaned up a few of the questions some of you had about the new rules, and added two complete new forces. First up is the Apocalypse War Resistance Unit (thanks to Da Boss on our forums for the idea), a mixture of judges, Citi-Def and punks with very little ammunition, determined to hold out against the East Meggers!

Then there is the Demonic Cabal, one I have been looking forard to messing around with! Now, this force list is very new and should be considered 'provisional' only, as it needs a great deal of playtesting to lock the summoning rules down (and maybe add a few more 'entities!'). But, have a go, as it should be a fun force to play - you will never quite know exactly how a game is going to go with these guys!

Finally, another preview - from the talented hands of Stephen May, a Zombie Judge, which will allow you to take advantage of the heavy armour option in the Zombie Horde force list!

Just a quick update before the end of the day (we should have an update for you tomorrow on the main rulebook)...

If, in the last hours of this Kickstarter project, we can count on your support to $70,000, we will add three Heroes of Mega-City One; Judge Giant, Fergee and a Judge from the Space Corps. The first two have been instrumental in literally saving the city, while the unknown judge from the Space Corps keeps a constant, vigilant eye out for threats beyond the Earth.

Rookie and Street Judge level pledges will each receive a choice of one of these fine Heroes. Wally Squad, Council of Judges, Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels will automatically receive all three!
Title: Re: Block War for Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Kickstarter

Well, they finally broke me, and I in turn broke the wife (cruelly, I made my case while were watching her being interviewed on Sky News with a bottle of homebrew. I have no shame). It was the combo of Kenny Who? and a Space Corps judge that did it. You other bastards better get that total up to $70K now, I've done my bit.

Donations of paint gratefully received.  It's 15 years since I took brush to miniature, I reckon my pots could be somewhat dessicated by now.

Ah, but where's the fun in that!  It's all very well if you're planning to entomb your hauls behind glass in some cobwebby cellar of obsession, but minis are for stickin' and filin' and sprayin' and brushin' and flockin' and all that good stuff.  I'm sure my rusty skills soon will return to their sub-mediocre level.  Might even encourage me to finish that Tuatha de Danann army that's been lurking half-painted in a shoebox for almost 20 years.

Two stretch goals fell overnight, which fairly surprised us here at Mongoose. Our heartfelt gratitude for that, there will now be new Heroes in Mega-City One and a range of vehicles to hit the streets! I know many of you were wondering what was coming next, so...

If we can count on your support up to $80,000, we have something quite special for you all. First off, we will introduce not two, not three, but four new box sets, each featuring a biker gang so you can take to the Megways among the ground cars, mo-pads and Lawmasters, and wreck havoc at over 200 mph! We will add a Street Gang (punks and juves) on bikes, an Ape Biker Gang (okay, okay, I admit, that one is an addition made purely for myself!), Renegade Robots on Bikes and, finally, Zombies on Bikes (with Zombie Master/Mistress)!

These sets will be added as choices for Rookie, Street Judge and Wally Squad levels. The Council of Judges pledges will receive one Biker set of their choice in addition to everything else (and can still choose others as part of their box set options). Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels will automatically receive all four!

But that is not all... We will also do the legendary biker Spikes Harvey Rotten on a Lawmaster, as featured on his trip with Dredd across the Cursed Earth. He will be added to the Council of Judges, Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels.

And that is not all either! If we pass the $80,000 mark, we will send an electronic copy of the Judge Dredd RPG core book (which is a lovely read, even if you are not a roleplayer) to everyone who has pledged more than $100, regardless of actual pledge level - just our way of saying thank you very, very much for all your support. Judge Dredd started off as a 'community' game, and your help in boosting both its range and profile, not to mention the ideas many of you have contributed to the game itself, is appreciated beyond words here at Mongoose HQ. Thank you.

Finally, we are not setting it as an 'official' stretch goal just yet but, if we pass the Biker Gangs, we will set a final stretch goal for the Judda, as requested by many of you...

:o  Oh my.  Pledge my pretties, pledge as if an anonymous stranger's happiness depended on it!

Meanwhile, while digging fruitlessly in the attic for Crisis 27 for The Cosh, I decided to unearth my 'vast, comprehensive, lovingly painted' collection of old Citadel Dredd minis.

The best thing I cay say about the small handful of garish chipped lead that it transpires is what I actually own is that thank Grud I didn't ruin paint Don Uggy, Joe Bananas and Fast Eek - they're lovely, and will make nice additions to my imminent Ape Gang!  Uppity apes with guns: this is best in life.

As to the stuff I did get round to desecrating with Goblin Green boots and Dragon Bronze pads, only my Apocalypse War Dredd conversion has any merit, and that is simply nostalgia talking.  Hell, it was 1985, I was 14 and fully expected to see mushroom clouds before ever I saw a girl's bra, there wasn't time for washes and matt coating damnit.

Still, I have two very nice Lawmasters from that range, some nice skysurfers, and there's a perfect Ron Smith Ugly too.  Itching to line them up with the Mongoose stuff, roll on Christmas.

Does anyone know of a comparison picture that shows the Mongoose figures and the Citadel?  What I've read suggests that the Mongoose figures are a little bigger, but there's a fair range of size across the Citadel ones anyway so I can't see it being a problem (the Dredds in particular are tiny, as are the Kleggs, while the Apes and sundry perps are huge).  Pleased to see that the non-movie (i.e. generic filler) droids, aliens and troopers from the old Star Wars Miniatures game may fit in nicely too, dodgy paint jobs aside.

Excited now!

I brought the full set of 2000ad Frontier Miniatures when they were on offer a couple of years ago and they still languish unpainted and I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more till they were finished. I'm weakening though.

Aw that's great, thanks CF!  I should have known to go straight to the blog of record in the first place.  The Kleggs (!) and Dredds are too small for comfortable mixing, but everything else looks grand.  The apes in particular, which, let's face it, is the important thing.

As to the rest of you, PLEDGE drokk you.  It's a long way to 80K and yer old pal TB needs Biker Apes baaad.

Looks like the kickstarter will be well through the $80K mark by morning, so I can sleep easy.

A quick calculation suggests that (for example) the Council of Judges/$300 pledge level will now be offering you 155 miniatures, including Spikes Harvey Rotten on a Lawmaster, Rogue Trooper, a Mechanismo Unit, Kenny Who?, a biker gang of your choice, the whole Angel Gang, the Dark Judges plus their spirit forms, a Sentenoid, three Fatties, War Marshal Kazan, Holocaust Squad judges, Walter, the ABC Warriors, a CitiDef unit, Chief Judge Hershey, DeMarco PI and her urbane gorilla, an ape gang,  etc etc etc.  Plus a Pat Wagon and sundries like weapons and electro cordons and a PDF of the Mongoose JD RPG.

That's working out at close to GBP£1 per mini, the kind of money they were going for back in the '80s. Astounding value if you can find the dosh.

And still the tentative promise of Judda lurks somewhere in the next 36 hours...

Only one question remains:  wot, no PJ Maybe?

I totally agree I've done the Sector Chief Pledge at $500 and gave up trying to work out how many figures it was but it was well over 150 a while ago, plus at least 6 vehicles. This really is a great deal however you look at it.

Wot no PJ Maybe, there are a lot you could add to the list, but personally I'd have liked to have seen a Wreckers crew, would have made a perfect set.

Anyhoo.....$78,368 as I type this...

We really did not think the last stretch goal would be passed last night - but you guys rallied behind it and shot past it! Our grateful thanks for that.

So, in the last 20 hours or so of the Judge Dredd Kickstarter (finishes a little after 9:30am Saturday morning, UK time!), I think we have time for one last stretch goal!

If we can count on your kind support to take this project up to $95,000, we will add three of the Judda to Council of Judges, Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels. Perfect for teleporting into the Hall of Justice and creating havoc with Mega-City One Judges!

However, that is not all. We will also add another model from the same storyline, albeit one half world away - Oz Judge Bruce, mounted on his trike! Bruce and Trike will be added to Sector Chief and Chief Judge levels.

Once again, many thanks for your kind support thus far, you are making the Judge Dredd miniatures game into what we always hoped it could be!

The $300 level has become insane, especially if the Judda stretch goal is reached - maybe somebody else could go in with you and then you could divy up the spoils?  Given that international shipping is included, I'm amazed that they can break even on that level.  Only 15 hours left.

And finished, at just shy of $101,500, with no further major surprises.  That was great fun, and certainly indicated that there's life in the old IP yet!

Almost half their 650 backers are pledged at over $150 (around $70K comes from about 150 backers alone), so even the fearsome international shipping costs for 20+ boxes of minis plus vehicles should be manageable.  For me a lot of the appeal here was free shipping - the number of times I've looked at Kickstarters with excitement, only to find that I have to 'add $75 for international postage'.

On the downside, my Birdie suggests that a November delivery date has flown the coop (produce nearly 100 new model moulds, 8 big vehicles and who-knows how many different bikes, sort out pledge permutations, produce, box and ship to 650 addresses?  Good luck, chaps!) so we probably won't be seeing this stuff until the early months of 2013.

I'm going to pass the empty months learning to paint again (and better) on my old Citadel figures and possibly pulling together a bit of scenery. I may even satisfy the Cosh's yearning for true art by posting pics of my efforts, both garish abominations from the '80s and what will surely be the vastly-improved future

I'm also planning to rope in a few chumps to play the game, which looks to be compatible with an evening of homebrew sampling.  Equally and more soberly my boy already plays the SW Minis skirmish game and is pestering me to start teaching him Warhammer, and this looks simpler than either of those.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for your support in this - we are already working to complete all your pledges!

We are aiming to supply the vast majority of the models by Christmas, while acknowledging the Law of the Sod can have an effect. However, we started manufacturing many of these models last month (though we did not count on the KS being quite so popular!) and new models have already started to come in - so you should start seeing models come through your door a bit quicker than you might think. Nevertheless, we will keep everyone updated via our forums.

Once again, thank you, everyone.

The Judge Dredd: Block War Kickstarter project is now complete and funded far beyond our initial expectations. Our deepest thanks to everyone who supported us, made comments and suggestions, and generally joined in! We did not expect this Kickstarter to be this popular, and you have our grateful appreciation - the future for the Judge Dredd miniatures game is bright!

I would also like to thank Ben Smith and the rest of the team at 2000AD, as well as Jason Kingsley, CEO of parent company Rebellion, for letting us take Judge Dredd and run with the property on Kickstarter. It was a risk for them to take, and we are grateful they trusted us to handle Mega-City One properly with this project.

We are currently looking to send out at least 90% (barring tragic hiccups) of all these miniatures before Christmas - we'll keep you all updated as to what new models are ready and when they are going out. However, given the success of this Kickstarter, I think it is pretty inevitable that we will do another. We have been chatting to some of the guys behind some of our RPGs about doing something in that area, and a poll on our forums is telling us that a Rogue Trooper miniatures game would be popular. First things first, though - over the next couple of months we will be working hard to complete the Block War supplement and get all your miniatures out to you.

We will be taking the policy of 'greatest number of models to the greatest number of people in the shortest time' when fulfilling all your pledges. So, while models will start shipping on Monday, it may be 3-4 weeks before everyone starts seeing something. We started manufacturing our existing models at the start of the Kickstarter but the sudden rush at the end means we have to make many more! This will start on Monday as well. However, we will be sending out models as soon as we have them in hand, so if you went for a pledge with as-yet-unmade models, you may end up receiving several packages, each going out as soon as we have something to send you.

This policy will also be used when making the new models. For example, both Spikes and Bruce were very late stretch goals. However, Spikes will likely be made very early on, as we just need a single model of him to go on the existing Lawmaster. Bruce, on the other hand, requires not just a rider but a brand new Trike, so he may well be one of the last models we commission. Like I said, greatest number of models in the shortest time.

The Kickstarter may be complete, but the Judge Dredd miniatures game goes on. Most of the discussion for the game (including news of updates and new models) takes place on our forums at http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/

Oh, and we have the newest revision of the main rulebook for the Judge Dredd miniatures game. You can grab it at;

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/jdmg.pdf

Finally, we have started to work through all your rewards, and work out who needs what - we did not have a huge amount of time this Monday morning before the postman arrived, but we managed to get a whole 17 parcels out the door!

A better way of looking at it, though, is that we have processed (figures out who wants want, now just needs sending/casting/sculpting) over 600 of you today, so... nearly all :)  The rest will be processed by the end of this week (so long as you get your surveys in!), and imagine we will be shipping something out in connection with this Kickstarter pretty much every day for the next couple of months.

So, some of you will start to see your items from tomorrow, others may see their first items in a couple of weeks or so.

Once again, thank you all for your support, and we hope to see you in the future on the Judge Dredd miniatures game forum and the events we will be running.

I made the right choice on the judge gender so, as I already have a GW male judge in that pose which will do justs fine.

I do miss the vertical stripe on the rear fairing, but I like the visible control cables. I like that the guns are separate - this means you can set to them your preferred angle, and shout 'Bike cannon, maximum elevation!'.  Ahem, I mean if you were so inclined, a-hah-hah-hah-hah.

Wonderful job there Albion!

Glad you like it CF, my poor photography lets it down a little a bit. It looks even better in the real world.
Christian plays some of the games ( mainly Warhammer I think) and paints for various people. He said that the Lawmaster was a great model to work on.
He will be doing my Judge Minty figure too. He likes the look of it and I am looking forward to seeing what he does with it.  :D

Nice to see a busty Nort too.

Mine were, but despite regular assurances that 'nearly everybody will get something this week' nothing has materialised, and I won't be back at my shipping address for a week  :'(.

Happily they were meant to be from the wife to me rather than for the kids or anything awful like that, and from the start I didn't believe for a second that they'd get 90-something new models sculpted, cast and shipped in two months. TBH I'm just delighted at how fabulous some of the sculpts are - Joyce, Judge DeMarco, Travis, the Sovs and Crazy Barry in particular are spectacular (although I do feel an attempted modification coming on for Joyce - can anyone guess what it might be?).

Not to worry, lads - I was beginning to think my order had gotten lost in the ether or something, but a package from Mongoose finally arrived yesterday - so they are finally shipping out.

I'm off to the parentals' tomorrow for Christmas week, so I'll probably wait until I'm back to open it and really tear into the package... but it's awfully tempting to rummage through my loot tonight, especially as I'm alone in the house so there's no reason not to let my inner geek have full, unpleasant reign.

My first parcel of stuff arrived over Christmas and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with the quality of the models (one or two slightly ropey designs aside). The Angel Gang in particular look like they stepped right off Mike McMahon's drawing board.

I'll start a thread with some photos once I get a few painted.

These are the first miniatures I've painted in roughly twelve years, so it would have made sense to do something nice and simple. So naturally I embark on a horrendously detailed urban camouflage scheme.  ::)

The Executioner looks very cool, but I really don't think much of the thuggish Midnight Surfer (grace and poise, people!), and Sabbat's cloak is, well, about as awful as the original concept.  That said, all the minis I've received so far have looked better in the flesh than their greens suggested.

Jimbo's Citi-Def are mouth-watering!

Title: Re: Block War for Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Kickstarter
Post by: Dark Jimbo on 14 February, 2013, 11:28:03 PM
Reassuringly simple! A coat of 'flesh tint' over white undercoat, then a wash of 'nut brown' ink to bring out all the detail. A spot of black for the mouth and eyes then a final speck of white for the middle of the eyes (and teeth, where visible).

Most of the faces and hands also had a final light brush with a white/flesh tint mix, but that was only because I'd gone a bit heavy with the wash in places (out of practice!)

Ta for that - you make it sound so easy.  I haven't painted a mini in nearly 20 years, but I've been getting my glue and files and undercoat and such ready for assembling the Dredd minis, and am presently trying to scrounge up some paints and some time.  Can't decide where to start - I had planned to do an Ape Gang, marrying them up with the old Citadel Don Uggie, Fast Eek and Joe Bananas (who are a pleasingly suitable scale and style), but once I got hold of the superb Fatties I wanted to those, and now I have the Cabal they have moved to top of the list!

I know what you mean! I dropped miniatures as a hobby when I left school and started college in 2000 (part of a desperate and inevitably unsucsessful attempt to try and be 'cooler' and appeal to girls - but that was also the time I started reading the prog, so apparently comics were okay) - but this kickstarter seems to have opened a floodgate in a big way!

I'm planning a very similar-sounding ape gang, to the extent of trying to score some of the Citadel Uggie models off Ebay to go with Mongoose's (luscious) Gorilla Gangster. I've even done a bit of gang-tagged scenery for them...

Two sets of goodies for the Rogue Trooper Kickstarter today!

First up, as you will already know if you have been keeping an eye on our Comments page, we have made some tweaks to our stretch goals and rewards, following suggestions made by, well, all of you. To summarise;

1. Venus Bluegenes is now a free model to Kapitan level pledges as well!
2. If we unlock the Lazooka teams, Kapitans will receive one team free, Majors wil receive two teams free.
3. Also, if the Lazookas are unlocked, we will be sending a Sister Sledge model to every backer of Sergeant level or higher!
4. Snipers are still free to Kapitans and Majors.
5. We have added the Hammerfire Pillboxes as a stretch goal and, if achieved, a Pillbox will be sent free to every backer of Leutnant level and higher.

Second, we have just updated the Rogue Trooper rulebook and have added a whole new chapter! During the Judge Dredd Kickstarter, we became aware that more than a few of you were pretty much intending to refight the Apocalypse War - it was pretty obvious by the number of Sov Judges, Citi-Def and Mega-City One's finest you were asking for!

We have been toying with the idea of making this kind of epic fight 'official,' and finally broke down today and added the ideas we have been working on - you can now fight the Apocalypse War using the Rogue Trooper miniatures game, as we have added Mega-City One and East Meg force lists! For a truly bizarre game, you might even consider fighting Mega-City One Judges vs. Norts, or East Meg Judges vs. Southers!

We have also added new rules on city fighting, intended to reflect how truly vicious this kind of warfare is. Perfect for the Apocalypse War but, of course, there is plenty of fighting in built up areas of Nu-Earth as well, so feel free to use those rules for Nort vs. Souther confrontations too!

Now, we predict that the first response to the MC-1 force lists will be 'where are the rules for Med-Judges/Anderson/Sky Surfing Chimps?' (closely followed by 'where are the Sov Rad Sweepers?...').

As with the rest of the rules revolving aroudn this Kickstarter, we want to give you chaps enough to play with (you already have the rules to match Holocaust Judges against Sentenoids, which can only ever be an interesting match up!), and then continue to add and tweak following your comments and suggestions. So, if there is much interest shown in this side of the game, more will be added.

As to the second response, well, perhaps we will look at another Kickstarter in the future for Rad Sweepers, as that is a BIG model!

If anyone is looking to get into the Apocalypse War in any half-serious way, we have also added a small selection of Judge Dredd sets to this Kickstarter which you would be welcome to add and combine with the Rogue Trooper sets on offer.

It has occured to us that, maybe next year, we should perhaps look at doing some sort of combined '2000AD miniatures game' that will feature both skirmish and battle level gaming, and cover both Rogue Trooper and Judge Dredd (and, who knows, maybe some other comic strips as well!). However, that is just an idea scribbled on the back of an envelope at the moment, and we need to get the individual components of such a project sorted first.

So, you have our open invitation to come on in and get involved with some tasty 2000AD gaming, and let us know what changes and/or additions you would like to see, to the skirmish rules and those covering battles, to Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper.

One way or another, the future looks bright for 2000AD miniatures gaming!

(bear in mind that he uses fluorescents which can't be left on due to fire risk, sure LEDs would be a better bet)

Very cool effect though.

Physical copies of the Judge Dredd miniatures game rulebook (hardback and full colour throughout) are now available for mail order via Wargame Vault.  We have recently recived copies here at Mongoose HQ, and they are just the ticket for picking a force or a quick reference during a game!

Judge Dredd is a 28mm skirmish game designed to be quick, easy to learn, and capable of handling the madness that is Mega-City One, from the powerful judges to the lowliest punk or mutant.

You can grab a copy at;
