Help! / Re: Rebellion and Rights to Ea...
Last post by IndigoPrime - Today at 01:25:42 PM
DDC certainly claims rights. Years ago, I wanted to write a Computer Warriors piece for Retro Gamer. I have a (short) interview with Alan Grant about that somewhere. (At the time, I couldn't get in touch with John Wagner.) My plan was to bulk that out with explanations of some of the stories, which would compare them against the game – and that would mean twinning screen grabs and some artwork. DDC did (eventually) give me the go-ahead to do so, although it did very much seem to be down to who at the time the email landed with.

(A pity that article never went anywhere. I spent quite a bit of time working on bits of it, but it never came together, because I couldn't secure the comics for scanning, and I really felt like I needed a bit of Wagner in the mix too. Oh well.)

This is a genuinely great interview, Mark Millar is one of those enthusiastic chaps who wants to be liked so much he puts people at ease which works well for Pat Mills. Much as I don't love Millar's comics his energy and passion for making popular comics is joyful. Same for Mills, who clearly still wants to find ways to reach a mass audience with whatever kinds of comics he can. He may be a world class moaner but he's also not JUST moaning, he's still following his dreams, too.

Around the time they brought back Johnny Alpha (as a slightly different character in a different universe, with an eye for adapting the story for TV, if anyone remembers that), It occurred to me that Jimmy Nail wouldn't be the worst Johnny Alpha ever.  I know he should have a posh accent, being Future-Farage's son, but as i say, it was a different universe.

Just catching up on my Dante readthroughs - loads of fun as always, thanks guys.  And yeah, I remember rooting for Viktor around this time in the progs, as I'd forgotten what a nasty, vicious little fecker he really was.

Really enjoyed that podcast - thanks again, Eamonn.  There was a lot of really interesting stuff about Peter Flint I hadn't realised or had forgotten.  When I get round to abolishing the whole system of aristocracy, I might make an exception for him.

I'd forgotten about that cover - what an absolute classic.  That's Inaba again up the front, isn't it?  And that Arnold Rimmer lad behind Halo Jones must be Bill Savage.

It wasn't the first time Fabry had drawn Dredd grinning inanely, either.

(The article this image came from claims that it was from a story where a woman from MC1 gets godlike powers - I was sure it was a man.)

Fair! I actually entirely forgot ZZ was just unavailable in the west until about 10 years ago, I'm absolutely speaking from a position of privilege there being able to go through the original run in true sequential order, good time to be alive. Hope you get as mch out of ZZ as I am, it's rightly deserving of its reappraisal.

And by Brian Blessed (that very emperor, Augustus) - his death scene is magnificent.
