Trailer is up for Tarantino and Rodriguez's double feature Grindhouse.
It's a bit... well, just take a look!

Utterly mental, but I'm really looking forward to it :-)

To be honest, it looks bonkers- and makes me yearn for the days of outings to the cinema with a system full of recreational pharmaceuticals and a designated driver.

Ah, happy days...
Pffft...

Cthulouis

Wow, that looks insane. Which is cool.

And would appear to have zombies. Which is cool.

Richmond Clements

That is one of the greatest things I have ever seen in my life.

Eli Roth is up there too.

I though Blonde might have been Heather Graham, nut it's not. and I would hacve recognised Rose Magowna if not for the missing leg.

Goaty

but QT is want to make us to called him bastard, as he plan to cut out some very great moments, so that cause some of us stand up at cinema and shout "you bastard" be carefully!

Woolly

I think what Goaty is trying to say is that QT has hinted that some prints of the film will be sent out with random reels missing.
His reasoning being that original Grindhouse films would regularly have a reel missing (though not on purpose).

Im all for authenticity, but if this is true then im just gonna wait for a DVD release. Going to uncomfortable, chav filled cinemas pisses me off enough as it is! If part of the film is missing too, i might just kill someone!*

*(not actually true, but you get my gist...)

I, Cosh

I'd also heard that the two films are being released separately in the UK, rather than as a double-feature package.
We never really die.

Rob Spalding

Last I heard the UK was getting the double, with the more Eastern European countries (Hungary, Romanina) and smaller territories getting it as 2 films

Bart Oliver

Read an interesting article in the Guardian guide about the phenomena of Grindhouse, and while I was reading it I was thinking 'this is all a bit before my time' until I remembered that a few of us had gone to see a double bill of soft core toga Roman orgy and badly dubbed Asian chop soky in some shitty, decaying Art Deco flea pit complete with rats and wanker middle aged men during an art school trip to Paris 16 years ago.

Can't wait to see T&R's homage.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

What this thing they have about missing reels?

This definitely before my time.

The Amstor Computer

I don't know whether they still do, but movies for use in cinemas used to come on several large reels of film. The projectionist would have to start one reel off, then splice in the next to carry on the movie & there was quite an art to doing this smoothly and cleanly. Of course, because there were multiple reels for each movie it was possible for one to go missing and leaving the projectionist and audience with a great big chunk of the movie missing. I don't believe it was too common, especially not in the more upmarket venues, but the "grindhouse" venues were notorious for poor prints, damaged film and missing reels.

It's that kind of feel that Tarantino & Rodriguez are going for, going so far as to digitally age their movies, introducing specks, wash-out, streaks & other film damage and - if the previews are correct - removing one "reel" of the movie. AFAIK, they aren't having random reels removed, though. Rodriguez' comments suggest that they're pulling a particular section from the movie - he used the example of cutting a slow "act" that shows character progression for the lead so that when the audience are dropped back into the movie, the shady lead character no-one trusted is suddenly trustworthy and noble! It's an interesting conceit, letting them play with the history of the grindhouse at the same time as stripping a movie back to its bare bones so the double bill still runs at a reasonable length.
