Announcements / Re: Dave Evans, R.I.P.

I'm very saddened to hear of the utterly shocking news about Dave.

I have spent a lot of today trying to find the right words, but no avail. All I will say is that I will miss his presence, his knowledge, his enthusiasm, his encouragement, his tales and his laughter.

My sincerest condolences go out to his family, who will undoubtedly miss him most of all.

This year I thought it'd be appropriate to remember the message transmitted by the crew of Apollo 8, on this day, Christmas Eve 1968. It was the first time in history that humans had seen, with their own eyes, "Earthrise" over the Moon.

With all the troubles on this world, it is good to remind ourselves of that which binds us to one another, this small blue planet, this Earth, Our home.

I can think of nothing to say, but repeat the words of Frank Borman, Commander Apollo 8.

"And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, A Merry Christmas - and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth."

I'll definitely be there! Looking forward to it.

BTW, it's MacNeil, not McNeil. I don't know, 30 years drawing comics and people still spell my name wrong. mumble, mumble, grumble, grumble...... ::)

Ahem!... Not my fault, Guv! :)

From episode One, page one of the Grindstone Cowboys script.

4. Ext. Morning. Mega-City One, streets. On Giant and Joyce, exhausted but still standing, blood dripping from their daysticks, among many unconscious rioters: a lot more rioters are fleeing. Giant has his hand raised to his helmet, receiving a call from Control.

Caption:   "... But it'll take more than your constant doom-mongering to solve the crisis."

Giant:   Acknowledged, Control. On our way.

Giant (link):   Ram-raid in progress, Spiker Piazza. You feeling up to it, Joyce?

Joyce:   Not especially. Let's go.

My precious little pup, Jana.
24/12/02 - 26/09/16

She came in to my life and made a basket of my heart.

My Master is the Shepherd

My master is the shepherd
I follow at his heels
Looking for the lost ones
We stroll among the hills

My master is the shepherd
I gather in his flock
Hearing his commandments
Together we will walk

My master is the shepherd
I wait upon his upon his word
Telling me the secrets
Of legends never heard

My master is the shepherd
I love him through and through
His kind and gentle ways
Forever will be true

My master is the shepherd
Through seasons we will go
From lambing springs and summers
To winter's howling blow

My master is the shepherd
When I am done and old
I'll come to him a running
Upon the hills of gold

I am utterly shocked and deeply saddened by this news. I atually read this thread last night, but didn't know what to say. In remembrance of him I polished off the last of my good whisky last night while smoking a pile of fags. I hope he would have approved.

My heartfelt condolences to his nearest and dearest.

He shall be missed, but he certainly won't ever be forgotten.

And yet, despite the interminable length of the campaigns we've had the most feeble of national debates - barely rising beyond one side asserting everything will be brilliant in an independent Scotland because we simply will it to be so, and the other side prophesying doom like a camp Nostradamus.

I just want answers - on Scottish interest rates, mortgage and pension arrangements, economic and defence contingencies. You know, trivial stuff like that. Nothing that our homes, livelihoods and mutual well being depends on.

Here you go, read this. It'll answer your questions about the border and immigration, among other things.

I'm hoping Colin changes his mind about sketching. The man is a legend!

Sorry, the sketching break continues for now. Patience, patience. :)

On the bright (?) side however, I've been having a major clear out of the old art cupboard. A lot of stuff will be stuff few, or no one, has seen before. Some comic related stuff, but lots of old sketches, card art, design work for various things, paintings of all sorts, illustrations, even a sealed copy of the Chopper-Surf City Here We Come T-shirt that Titan did in the early 90's and possibly even a couple of copies of a board game thingy I worked on yonks ago... assuming I can fit them in to the luggage.

As I said, a major clear out.

Anyhoo, see you all at the pub... er, I mean convention. :)

Cheers

I wouldn't normally post on this thread, but there may be some who have come across a friend of mine who very sadly passed away suddenly on Saturday.

His name was John Ritchie, a native of Roslin, co author of Rosslyn Revealed and Rosslyn Chapel Decoded. He was the Grand Herald and spokesman for The Scottish Knights Templar, a regular contributor to the Sauniere Society, he was also a journalist, ex Reuters cameraman, documentary producer, secretary to the Midlothian Federation of Community Councils, one of the founders of the Scottish Community Broadcast Network, one of the founders of Edinburghguide.com, an executive producer for Hogmanay.net to name just a little of what this remarkable man did.

He tried to make the world a better place and inspire people to be better people, to believe in themselves and make a difference to their own lives, the lives of those around them and to the world.

Above all else he was one of my most dearest friends and I will miss him greatly. The world is indeed a dimmer place for the loss of his light.

Re Mr Campbell's remarks.

Bizarre link?
"This is the most astonishingly obtuse diversionary tactic." You really don't like the thought of an independent Scotland, do you? "The Bain Principle" at work here?

I put up these links to show that Scottish votes do not matter at Westminster, never have and never will. As someone said, he who does not keep one eye on the past will be blind to the future in both eyes.

If you are worried about Tory rule, persuade your fellow citizens to vote for something else. Don't blame the Scots for England's choices.

I'm an artist so not great at written argument, but if you think the facts are wrong in that link, then type a comment on to it, challenge it. You'll soon get a response from those who are more able than I to argue the point. See how you get on, dare you.

Hi Jim  Could you explain to me how the electoral system is biased towards the Tories?

I meant 'still further' in relation to the way the political map would look if Scottish independence handed the Conservatives a 57 seat advantage, not from the current situation. My phrasing is unclear, for which I will apologise without reservation.

Cheers

Jim

Mr Campbell just lied to you Old Tankie, Scottish votes mean nothing. (You read the links, yes?) The constituency boundary areas favour the Labour Party at the moment. As you said in your post.

"Hi Jim  Could you explain to me how the electoral system is biased towards the Tories?  If anything, it's the other way around.  In 2010 the Tories got over 2 million votes more than Labour but were unable to form a majority, while in 2005, Labour got less than 1 million votes more than the Tories and were able to form a government with a majority of over 60."

Anyhoo, hope that's stirred the hornets nest a wee bit. :)

Kindest regards from a soon to be independent Kingdom of Scotland to a soon to be independent Kingdom of England (&NI). :)

Cheers

Colin
