Title: That gum you like is going to come back in style -
Post by: JOE SOAP on 15 May, 2014, 11:32:01 PM

Arriving for the first time on stunning High Definition Blu-ray with English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio on July 29th, this comprehensive collection contains every episode from the complete television series; both the U.S. and international versions of the series' Pilot; the North American Blu-ray debut of Lynch's follow-up feature Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me...

Along with a newly transferred version of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, created from a 4K scan of the original negative, TWIN PEAKS – THE ENTIRE MYSTERY Blu-ray box set boasts the long-awaited missing pieces from the original version of the film – nearly an hour-and-a-half of deleted/alternate scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me – often referred to as the "holy grail" of Twin Peaks fandom. This feature-length experience has been directed and edited by Lynch exclusively for this release. Capping off more than 30 deleted/alternate scenes is an epilogue providing a fascinating glimpse beyond the cliffhanger finale of the TV series.

If it doesn't include the Scooby Doo episode set in the Red Room, then as far as I'm concerned this is an incomplete collection.

YES PLEASE. Just to derail the thread, I've never bothered with a bluray player either. I always figured I'd buy one when the price dropped under £50, but my DVD player still works and I've got a crap telly, so I don't see the point.

Oh man, I saw that this was happening and figured I would get it sometime down the line, but I didn't know about all the bonus footage. Now I think I'm going to have to buy this now for sure. Quite excited to watch the whole thing again.

Damn, only bought the series two DVD recently-ish.

However- it's a must buy.
The Heather Graham / Annie Blackburn deleted scenes (post Black Lodge visit) are enough to warrant the purchase.

I only watched Twin Peaks for the first time last year as when it was on tv I had just discovered beer and lady bumps. I expected it to be quite dated but I ended up loving it. This just might get bought.

I can't remember any of it... so I am hoping a mate of mine bus this so I can watch it again.

I remember I liked it... but can't remember anything. (Only saw it the first time never seen any repeats or such).

I'm sure I'm not the only person who considered this to be pretentious wank at the time, but I'm one of the few who hasn't revised their opinion once it became "cool".

I was a fan of David Lynch movies at the time (esp Blue Velvet & wild at Heart) but IMHO this marked the point where he descended into 'weirdness for weirdness' sake', and I've not really enjoyed much that he's done since.

That would be brilliant, but how are they going to explain how Kyle McLachlan looked better in aging make-up 25 years ago than he does now? (snaps fingers then dances backwards out of frame)

Caught this last night before hitting the sack, and dozed off sporting a complacent smile.

It's looking extremely likely that It's Happening Again.
The age & condition of our surviving thespians doesn't bother me one iota- anything can be achieved with make-up / digital wizardry.

Just a shame a few cast members have passed on- including the one playing the character we've been awaiting a resolution to; Bob.

I didn't know that. That's a shame, but I suppose the solution to that is the same as the answer to the question What The Hell Can We Give Ray Wise To Do?

This is one series I have never really watched. I caught the odd episode here and there and was intrigued, and I always meant to watch it from the start.

The Blu-Ray set is tempting for that reason, but it's rather a lot to shell out on if I really dislike it. Hmm. Maybe download a few episodes first, and see how it goes? I think that's the best idea.

An aged version of spirit Bob (Frank Silva) would lose its impact. He didn't say much anyway and if they're stuck they can re-purpose some old footage of him looking threatening in a a denim jacket.

Or they could get Henry Ian Cusick to whiten his hair...
If anything comes up from this, I'm probably going to be one of a small minority who would rather get a couple of films released X amount of months apart here than another series. I think you've much more chance of it ending closer to the way Lynch/Frost would have ended it that way (not to mention Lynch's vow he wouldn't work on TV again) and in the age of Boxset binges and Netflix etc, it's not like anybody won't be able to play catch-up easily enough beforehand.

The original way was a third season, the film plan only arose when the series got cancelled. Twin Peaks always had a make it up as they go along approach so I just see it as a continuation of that. A couple of films would cost more and likely lose a lot more money. TV is where it belongs. Of course this may end up being something else entirely.

"David Lynch and Mark Frost will start shooting a new, 9-episode season in 2015. They're trying to bring back as much of the original cast as possible, with Kyle MacLachlan definitely on board reprising his role as Special Agent Dale Cooper. Composer Angelo Badalamenti and Emmy Award-winning editor Duwayne Dunham will likely be involved as well."

I can only think of one quotation from the show to express my excitement and that's because I've plagiarised the line from Dale Cooper for years now whenever asked about my preference when drinking coffee.  "How do you like your coffee, Agent Cooper?"

I'll paraphrase his response in this way:

"What are your hopes for the new series of Twin Peaks?"
'I hope it's as "black as the night on a moonless night."'

I'm really interested to see what comes of this, BUT...

I have to say, 2016 is a long way away... and long enough for something to go horribly wrong. There have a been a number of false starts with regards to continuations of the series already. At one stage it was going to be back on another network, then it was going to be a computer game, then it was going to be a graphic novel...

Also, my enthusiasm is a little dampened by my recent re-watch of the whole thing. Season 2 is ALARMINGLY crappy in places, and feels very much like the writers were being told 'just throw anything in that you like until the showrunners come up with a better set of ideas.'

I'm also going to miss Don Davis and Jack Nance.  :'( But then again, if it puts Sherylin Fenn back on TV...

David Lynch has walked away stating Show Time won't put in the money he needs to have it the way he wants it to be, though Show Time's statement seems to be one of them hoping they can get him back. If they can't get Lynch back on I'd be shocked if Frost remains aboard seeing how he has spent years saying he should've backed Lynch a lot more during the last Twin Peaks run.

It's slightly surreal sitting back with a (damn mediocre) cup of coffee and watching new episodes of Twin Peaks.
Nothing like I expected it to be, but I don't really know what I expected to be honest.
3 episodes in, and it's very Coop centric, with the wolfish 'Evil Coop' stealing the show so far.

Very watchable stuff.

Frost & Lynch waste no time in getting right back into the groove while furrowing a few new ones. Watched the first 4 eps and loving it so far. Safe to say anyone who's not entirely into it, or watched the previous instalments, will probably be gone within the first hour as there's no effort to try and seduce a new audience. It's the same funny and weird Twin Peaks only bigger and beyond what was reasonably expected.

Agreed. Twin Peaks has influenced so many fantastic shows since it disappeared that my biggest concern was would it still seem relevant? Would it still have a place twenty five years later? A resounding yes. I'm loving it.

This is amazing. Lynch has still got it, this is like a combination of the styles his movies like Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway etc, plus it's Twin Peaks. Really really wild stuff, just the way I wanted it! Great compelling out there stuff, done in the way that only Lynch can do.

It's new Twin Peaks, and nice to have Mark Frost co-writing, and it's also like one big David Lynch movie, which is very very nice.

In this era of one billion distractions, I did the unthinkable and re-watched the first 4 episodes to tide me over.

One thing I noticed this time- that didn't seem to be Garmonbozia that "Dougie" puked up before
being sucked into the Lodge
.

No, Showtime seemed to want to kill the series momentum stone dead. After the hiatus it's just one instalment a week now until the distant joys of episodes 17 and 18, apparently.

Jeremy Corbyn take note, this is how you really take us back to the 1970s.

Oh yeah, the show's brilliant, though.

It was Lynch's choice to go weekly. He's right. This isn't really a show to binge watch in one go.

Its interesting that there are people happy with having to wait between episodes. I know things have changed but telly isn't cinema, its not there to be consumned in on go... is it? Half the fun is surely the anticipation between episodes, cliffhangers, wondering all week what will be happening next. The idea of binge watching seems to have ruled out this (though they still have them in for folk like me who try to ration watching - admittly as much through necessity as anything else) created the cruel phenomenon of cliffhangers between series, now man that is going too far!

The point about the Netflix method is it gives people the choice of how/when to watch things. I am now so used to this that it I find it irritating when other broadcasters don't play the same way.

Also, as Twin Peaks 3 is basically one long David Lynch movie split up into chunks I would have though it would be perfect for a binge. Except possibly our brains might explode.

Erm so the last episode?  Any comments or are you all still trying to stuff you brain back in your ears?

I quite liked it in an arty farty way but didn't really appreciate it taking up half the episode.

I loved it, but can totally see why some people would be turned off! Saying that, I'd be surprised if anyone not up for a bit of full-strength Lynch has made it this far in the season because the weirdness has been pretty full-on throughout.

I can't remember when I was last so gripped and mesmerized by an hour of TV to be honest, just getting lost in the sounds and shapes, and the idea that it was depicting
the birth of Bob
just gave it all a tremendously sinister edge, something that nasty needs some apocalyptic visuals. Speaking of which, that slow shot of the
mushroom cloud
was amazing. I'd actually very much like to see that episode in a cinema one day.

I hear it's off for another week, which is nice, that episode will take some time to process! I'm very much in the 'this shouldn't be binged' camp on this show, the week of processing and unpacking each episode is an important part of its rhythm I think.

It was mesmerising to be sure, as a unique hour of TV as there ever likely will be.
Does this 'origin of BOB' contradict Lelands revelation that he knew (lived beside) "Robertson" as a child?

Unbelievably, we're down to the final 6 episodes.
The pace has slowed enough to extrapolate the finale will be set in the woods outside Twin Peaks with Twin Coopers having a 'there can be only one' showdown.

The creators have no plans for more but didn't rule it out in that non-committal who knows what the future brings kind of way. This season seems to be hauling in a lot of elements and ideas from the originals so while they could come up with more, I think this feels like a conclusive, if wildly sweeping, statement by Frost & Lynch.

From a ratings standpoint, I doubt the numbers are good enough nor do I believe anyone seriously ever thought they would be, but Showtime got their few million extra subscribers out of it and will sell loads more box-sets, so who knows.

I watched up to the mid-season break but after tuning in at 9pm the week it wasn't on Sky I've fallen out of the habit. Think I saw the first one after the 'skip week' but that's it. I know I can catch up on Sky Go but the momentum's gone for me. (Same with GoT S7 actually except I never made it to the first episode and now the impulse to watch has gone.) I'm thinking I'll wait for the boxset to come out and then catch up at some later, unspecified, time. Maybe.

Yes. Can't wait. I hope to get up early on Monday morning to watch the finale before going to work.

As to how it will end, I think it has to involve the two Coopers meeting and maybe a fight/supernatural battle/vortex in a cup of coffee confrontation to determine who returns to the Black Lodge. Of course I could be completely wrong and it may just involve golden shovels and Jerry in the woods.

The reason for the season is the retrieval of Dale Cooper and possibly Laura Palmer  – to save the town by shovelling it out of the shit – so I think it'll be more an ending of Blue Velvet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbnhQvaAu_I) style closure featuring Julee Cruise singing at the Roadhouse.

I've a day's work to get through first, but have prepared myself for the following final 15 minutes:

- Gordon Cole talks to a huge telephone.
- Coop and Evil Coop are annihilated, leaving a new 'Dougie' Tulpa to continue the shenanigans.
- Cut to The Roadhouse where four random millennials have a 9 minute conversation about non-plot points.
- We're played out with a rousing rendition of "F*ck You" (lyrics by David Lynch / performed by Sheryl Lee).

Awesome series finale. Not what I wanted to see, but then again I don't know shit.

I've seen theories making the rounds that Cooper successfully changed history, so all of the final episode is a bizarre dream the young, saved Laura (in 1989) has safely tucked inside her bed instead of going off and getting murdered. What do you reckon?

Some genuine questions I've been pondering today:

- Is it now conclusive that Sarah Palmer is (or was possessed by) "Judy"?
- How is it possible that Tulpas's can sire human children?
- The dimension that Coop & Diane traveled to is an artificial construct right? Created by "Judy" (as a trap)?

- Is it now conclusive that Sarah Palmer is (or was possessed by) "Judy"?

I assume that was the gist of it and Doppel-Dale/Bob was trying to return to Mother/Judy.

Quote- How is it possible that Tulpas's can sire human children?

They seem physically capable of doing just about everything else a human can do so why not – but if Richard Horne is an example of Tulpa progeny, then they aren't exactly the full shilling.

Quote- The dimension that Coop & Diane traveled to is an artificial construct right? Created by "Judy" (as a trap)?

These are my own rough thoughts on the last instalment which I do think is The End – quite a few on the web-o-tron are thinking there's more to come, that it can't end here. I disagree. I think the answers are there.

The crossing worlds seems more an attempt at an escape from the forces that were preventing Laura's return to Twin Peaks (Sarah attacking Laura's picture as time is fracturing).

Cooper all ready understood to where and what they were going to when he drove into the different world with Diane to Look for Laura – he warns Diane things may not be the same. It alludes to the words of Mike's monologue: One chants out between two worlds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4NWOyPp1yg) which Mike repeats to Cooper as he enters The Convenience Store/The Dutchman's underneath The Great Northern.

On the other-side Dale and Diane are becoming different people – like Laura who vanished 25 years before and became Carrie after Cooper tried to save her in the forest, leaving retro-fitted Pete Martell to an unbothered fishing trip.

At the motel Diane realises she's becoming Linda and her memories of Cooper are going so leaves him while she still has the chance to say goodbye with the letter. Yet again there's a noticeable difference in how Kyle McLachlan plays Cooper as he's slowly becoming Richard in this new iteration – he's flatter, more serious, matter of fact, and many of the fantastical things of Twin Peaks are rendered as more mundane objects/places/people: Judy is a truck-stop diner, the white horse a mantelpiece ornament, Laura a working-class Southerner in, yet again, a bad relationship that leads to death.

The fantasy of vanquishing evil in Episode 17 – The Past Dictates The Future and the idea of Cooper erasing all the events of the entire series is a catharsis/wish-fullfillment for the viewer's long-held empathy toward Laura but it's ultimately unsatisfying and untruthful to the story and themes of Twin Peaks and not a true ending. Like Superman going back in time to save Lois Lane, Dale's rescue of Laura is a dramatic cheat but in Twin Peaks it's made to work because of the emotional truth/reality revealed at the end of Episode 18 – What is your name?

Dale's persistent wanting to remind Carrie of who she is, is another attempt at fixing the unrightable wrong of child-abuse and despite Cooper's endless dream and reality-bending during his heroic journey across time to save Laura – continuing the Twin Peaks tradition of subverting TV/film tropes i.e. dead characters returning or 'it was all a dream' – they can't escape the truth that in life there's no such thing as a do-over – you can't ever go home, back to the way it was. They don't get to remake/fix their past without losing or forgetting themselves, erasing their memories, which is what happened to Laura, now Carrie, and seems to be happening to Cooper, becoming Richard, in the different world.

Bewildered, Cooper stumbles forward on the road trying to figure out what went wrong and what year it is after finding Laura's parents aren't home and his efforts have again, failed. He's losing his old intuition/self, Carrie starts remembering who she is – all the pain and suffering comes back as a familiar voice cries 'Laura' to a background of electrical interference. Laura screams, Cooper is shocked, Mother/Judy/Bob has returned to haunt her dreams as the lights go out.

We're back in The Waiting Room and it's fitting that the last –recurring– image is Laura/Carrie whispering the terrible secret of what happened to her into the unknowing ear of Dale/Richard.

Wow. There was so much about those last 3 episodes that I'm sure I'll be mentally unpacking and working through for years. I can't even really pinpoint why but during the last episode I started thinking about The Dark Tower, something about it was really capturing how I felt reading the last book in that series. When the credits rolled my wife turned to me and said 'I was getting really strong Dark Tower vibes from that', then when I texted my brother to say I'd watched it he replied with 'didn't it remind you of The Dark Tower?'

Just found it really odd that we all had that same experience, and that it brought the same thing to mind. I guess it's because (I'll spoiler tag all of this, on the off-chance someone stumbles in here without seeing the finale)
saving Laura felt like Coop's tower, an impossible quest that he'd cross between worlds to try and complete, losing himself in the process, and that it's something he's doomed to keep repeating (for now, I'll probably change my reading of the whole thing tomorrow!). I can't pretend to have a full (or even flimsy) understanding of a lot of the events in The Return, but the sense that the whole thing is cyclical and loops in some way feels right to me, and once I got thinking about that a lot about the earlier seasons seemed to fit. There's so much in those seasons that Cooper solves on instinct, and by clues appearing in his mind as visions and intuition almost as if he was remembering them from a dream or had been through it before, so I'm really liking the idea that in some way he's been trapped in a cycle.

Part of me is upset that I didn't get the positive feel-good ending that I was certain it was moving towards, and part of me knows that I did get that. It just happened an hour before the end, and the last hour served to undo that closure and break my heart in ways I probably don't really fully understand. Lynch is an absolute master at conjuring moods and emotions, and if this is how I feel after watching it then I've no doubt at all that this is exactly how he wanted me to feel.

Totally reeling from it. One of the biggest gasp moments for us was actually the end of the 3rd to last episode when Audrey Horne's storyline came to an end. Had been getting the sense for weeks that she was in some sort of purgatory (possibly after being killed in the explosion in season 2, or even maybe in a coma dream as a result of that, but not sure if that's too on the nose for Lynch) and that moment when she finally asks to leave and 'wakes up' just as the episode ended was startling. The fact that it wasn't revisited makes it all the more interesting. One of (maybe my only) disappointments with the show had been Horne's character, as she didn't get anything to do other than be fairly annoying and trapped in the same argument for episode after episode, but the climax of that thread was one of my favourite moments in the whole thing, and a great gutpunch of a pay-off.
Anyway, I could ramble on about Twin Peaks forever (and I do want to) but I'll shut up now!

Interesting takes here.

I've been thinking a bit more about the cosmology of the show. This is probably bollocks, but it was fun thinking about it today at work.

I've started to think that the entity "Judy" is not necessarily an evil, violent spirit but some kind of personification of death. When Gordon Cole talks about it, I noticed that he doesn't use the word "evil" or anything like that, but instead calls it "an extreme negative force" or something like that. That's a bit like death: there's no good or evil intent behind it - instead, it's just an absence.

A lot of commentary I've come across seems to gloss over Laura Palmer's role, but to me this had been about her just as much as Cooper. When the bomb is tested in New Mexico, that unleashes something and makes "mother" or "the experiment" give birth to BOB, a personification of man's evil. The thing that gives birth is probably not Judy but some kind of bad, lesser entity that is always on hand to pour pain and suffering into the world. The Fireman counters that by sending Laura into the world. Interesting here that BOB and Laura seem to be the same kind of spirit, sent into the world in a sphere.

It may be a bit cliched, but to me that makes Laura a bit of a Christ-like figure, or the nearest thing to Christ the TP universe could have. Maybe her function is to soak up some of the pain and suffering BOB can inflict on the world. It seems BOB is not aware of her real nature and neither is she while she is living. I guess all BOB can see is some kind of being that's stronger than anything else he's encountered, and that makes him angry and makes him obsessed with taking her over. When Laura dies in Fire Walk with Me, she seems to achieve some kind of grace and reslization as she watches the Angels float in front of her. Apparently the famous "faster and faster" scene where she talks about the Angels all having gone away was deliberately filmed from above to give the impression of angels watching over what is happening, contradicting what Laura thinks in her despaired state of mind.

Then maybe The Return is Cooper embarking on his quest to "kill two birds with one stone", which to me seems to mean the twin aims of defeating BOB and defeating the negative force of Judy (i.e. death) by cheating her of one of her victims (Laura). He manages to defeat BOB, but when he tries to cheat death, he manages to alter time but Laura is snatched away from him. This could be not only because death can't be defeated even by a hero like Cooper, but also because Laura's entire existence was predicated on her death at the hands of BOB (which in turn freed Leland of his influence and seemed to condemn BOB to life without a host for a while).

This disruption of the order of things sends Cooper spinning off into an alternate reality where he loses his identity and Laura becomes a woman without purpose. This still seems to be part of his plan, but Cooper seems out of his depth here, alternating between Mr C, good Coop and even Dougie. He seems to have a vague idea of something he needs to do but doesn't seem to have much awareness outside of that. He takes Laura's other self (who should never have existed) to the house, which jogs some vestigial memory in her and makes her realise what she is (as the Log Lady says, "she is the one". I think even James says that in the first season). Anyway, the realization prompts the blood-curdling scream that always happens when Laura is summoned back to where she belongs. This time everything shuts down and the screen turns blank because both her and Coop are whisked away.

Then the whole thing end with Laura whispering the truth into Cooper's ear in the waiting room or the Black Lodge or wherever that place is meant to be.

Anyone else thinking that
the scene with Diane and Cooper sleeping together in the motel was something akin to the way he "set things right" with Laura? They made a stop at a gas station and then went to a motel. And if I remember things correctly Diane talked about being taken to one after getting sexually assaulted by Mr C, where her doppelganger was made. Perhaps this was Cooper either finding her before Mr C (similarly to Laura) or helping Diane to reenact what happened, but with him instead. The thing that made me think it was before was the old car they where going in. Part of the reason I think this is because Cooper/Jones was trying to help people through out the season, and perhaps this was a way to help Diane.
Regardless. I really liked it. Worked on so many levels. Amazing television :)

Also, regarding the ending. I'm thinking
that whatever went on (which I have some theories on)
I think ultimately for me it meant that Laura's trauma would still be there no matter what Cooper changed about the past.
Can't wait to watch it all back to back.

There's a theory doing the rounds that watching the last two episodes together simultaneously reveals some spooky things to line up. For the most part it sounds like happy accidents, but there seems to be a pretty good case for the final scenes taking place alongside one another. Could be bunkum but will definitely be trying it out of curiosity sometime!

So I'm only 6 episodes in and therefore taking care not to read down this thread yet, so sorry if this is covered, but just wanted to comment while I'm absolutely loving season 3 Jez is it violent and grim. I mean its not as if there weren't moment of this in the first two seasons, some really terrifying, disturbing bits and 'Fire Walk with me' is almost unrelentingly brutal, but Season 3 is sooooo harsh.

In episode 6 we have
the child being hit by the truck
which was just awful, I had to stop for a bit. Then you get
the two women stabbed to death by the assassain.
Its absolutely terrifying. I'm left to wonder how different the early stuff would have been if this level of stuff had been permitted on network telly back in the day.

Its not a critisism, far from it, as it all absolutely has the necessary impact, its not done for thrills and is in turns soul destorying and terrifying and utterly effective in creating a tone that is gloriously diverse and in contrast, just like the zig zag black and white flooring. Its just not telly to watch before going to bed... which foolishy is what I'm doing!

Did anyone else think that
the segment of the episode that showed the bomb testing and Bob arriving in the ensuing atomic chaos was just like an extended version of the stargate from the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Not sure if it was a homage, rip-off, or what, but it just felt a bit jarring for me.

However, the phrase
'Got a light?'
will now forever send chills down my spine.

Thinking about it, that part is reminiscent, but that whole episode reminded me more of Eraserhead than anything else.

Well just watched Episode 8 and that was one of the most astonishing things I've ever seen.

I reckon the reference to Eraserhead must mean I'm safe to look at those spoiler tags shaolin_monkey!

Astonishing!

Well that was all rather superb wasn't it. I've taken my time and not binged but got there.

My take is like Joe Soap that's our lot and its all there. Just takes some picking out... now I'd happily have and take more, but I'd be surprised. I also think, at the moment I go with Muon's reading of things. I think Laura is some kind of 'Christ' figure, created in episode 6 to to absorb / expose the pain Bob reaps on the world.

So Cooper embodies both the best and worse in mankind always assuming it can find and solve the pain in this world, but courses much of it aided by the 'demons' inside. At the end as said his actions seem to encapulate Cooper, Mr C and Dougie (the naive dumb simple hero who is able to affect positive change but doesn't really function in the real world?) as he turns into something new, resisting change with all that he has (there's probably something in Diane embracing here change however sad she found that). So he resists change, fights it convinced that he has a mission for good and all he does is return Laura to the source of her pain and suffering and bring it all back full circle...

...hmmm its probably got something to do with the modern state of America ... or fiction and stories... but I've got more work to do with that...

... Christ I love fiction in any form that makes you work with it, think about it and willingly return to it to learn and try again and most importantly is so affecting that and wonderful that you want to do so the moment you finish it... as I said before though there should be a warning 'Do watch before trying to sleep'!

Twin Peaks continues to be amongst the very best fiction in any media out there. Superb.

I felt alot of it tied into trauma. For example a-bomb episode. The bomb sort of being "the big one" in regards of that. Another one being Laura's. Cooper not being able to save her from the pain felt very "real" I think.

I watched Eraserhead, Blue velvet, Mullholand Drive, Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me and then Twin Peaks: The return. All of their beauty, ugliness, fun and sorrow felt entwined. Especially with the use of colour blue and lashing sounds of electricity.

I've yet to watch Lost highway and Inland empire. Any good?

After Mullholand Drive, Lost Highway is my favourite. I also enjoyed Inland Empire quite a bit once I got used to the handheld videotape way it was filmed. Laura Dern is exceptional in it. Both highly recommended by me.

HOME in Manchester have a Lynch season coming up, including a series of marathons of the entirety of Twin Peaks, his early shorts, and all his theatrical movies.

I'm not a huge Lynch fan (hated Twin Peaks, and he kinda lost me after Wild at Heart), but my workmate is, and since Home is 5 mins from me, I met him for a pint between screenings on Saturday and we took in the art exhibition - holy shit, never knew he was such a great artist. Photos of the works wouldn't do them justice as some of them are huge, multi-textured and about six inches thick. They are also strange, dark and disturbing, as you'd expect.

I might check out Blue Velvet and Elephant Man later in the week, two outstanding movies before he went all "weirdness for weirdness' sake"

I'd colour myself as a moderate fan. First series great - second not so much. Last a bit flabby and self indulgent.

That said I'm staying at the Great Northern in September - The Salish Lodge and Spa. And yes, they do damn fine cherry pie!

Oh finding Dale Cooper'a room is very very cool. Even for a man with your t-shirt collection that is a real pinicale.

Also intrigued to here there are Season 4 rumours. I'd be nervously excited if they did, but just as happy for them to leave as is. After all we all know how season 2 went after they concluded the main storyline.

Shortly after posting the above I ordered the Blu-ray* yesterday evening. Arrived today! I ordered it pretty late too. Well impressed with Amazon Prime, although I didn't get it for that.

A nice surprise too as I'd forgotten I'd ordered it, today.

*Curiously I noticed it's named differently from how the series was advertised: Twin Peaks:The Return.
The dvd/Blu-ray is called 'Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series'. Descriptive, but not as catchy, eh?

But I'm kind of envious of you now; getting to watch it all for the first time.

I watched the first two episodes today. The blu-Ray provides the option of watching them separately or there's a feature length concatenated version. I chose that.

That was... very weird (as to be expected) and I enjoyed it. I didn't understand it all, but maybe things will be explained better later, although I suspect much will remain a head-scratcher.
"This is the evolution of the arm." Ooookaaaay....
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
One thing I have mixed feelings about: the whole doppelgänger thing seemed a bit out of nowhere right at the end of series 2. I.e. the evil entity, 'Bob' who caused the grief in series one appeared to work by possessing a person and working through them. A duality of a kind, certainly, but nothing like what's going on with agent Cooper.... or is it? It's still an enjoyable thread, in series 3, mind.
Regarding the arm, it's
-as you probably already figured- the little man in the lodge. I've heard he (the actor) and David Lynch had a falling out of sorts, and thus he was replaced by a tree with a piece of chewing gum on top --because why not  :D
I confess I didn't make that connection, but the idea of
the little man being 'the arm'
rings a bell. (I've forgotten a certain amount about the original series. It's been a while since I saw it.)
It explains why one of the blokes at the black lodge only has one arm too, I suppose. Sort of. As to the chewing gum on top of the tree, I wondered what that was supposed to be! I thought maybe a brain of some sort, but that didn't look quite right.
Did you ever think about all your times posting replies to forums that you'd type such things as appears in these last couple of posts? I certainly didn't. Twin Peaks is nuts, but I like it.

You mean
a dwarf who greets people in their dreams, talks backwards, says he's the arm of another backwards talking man, who then got replaced by a talking tree with a chewed gum as a head (which could be a referens to "the gum you like is going to come back in style") because falling out with the director of said series...
Haha, no  :D

It's a lovely series. Love watching Fire walk with me followed by The return.

Btw. Feel free to ask away if you got more questions. You'll probably ask about someone called Billy later on ;)

Well a package has arrived from Chris today and its all very lovely.

I ordered the Twin Peaks book which is a glorious collection of portraits which is just lovely.

I also picked up Switchblade Stories 1 (20ish page comic) and U'Grot a 60 page graphic novel and the production values of just superb.

Chris seems to have thrown in some prints to boot. Well, well worth the money if anyone is still thinking about this.
