We're back. We've had to have a bit of an enforced break due to real life and work and stuff so it took us a while to get this out so apologies for that...

Surprised there are still so many Marvel titles on your pull list!

I've heard pretty much the same summary of Secret Wars from the three other Marvel readers I know (including my LCS guy).

For me, there's something about this whole Battleworld / Incursion concept that is just utterly, utterly stupid (even in the context of a fictional comic book universe).
I can't get over it.

Funny enough, I've literally just finished reading Secret Wars #2 (the introduction of Battleworld) and it is hugely better than #1, by an extremely wide margin. They really should have started with this one. I'll give Hickman his due - he does write Dr. Doom very well, and since Doom's one of my favourite Marvel characters, and is also pivotal to the story, that goes a long way for me.

So worth bothering with #2, Greg, and skipping #1? I picked it up to have a flick through in my LCS yesterday and the chap I know there shook his head. He said it was very hard to follow what the hell was going on. I put it back down immediately!

I did pick up Old Man Logan #1 which is very good indeed and am looking forward to the next. Some cracking art in the first few pages - some really good action. Luckily you don't need to be down with the whole Battleworld / Secret Wars thing to enjoy it and don't need to have read the previous Old Man Logan stuff either.

Also managed to snag the last copy of Fight Club 2 #1 in my LCS. So was quite chuffed with that as I'd missed it when it came out and was thinking I might have to pay silly eBay prices. Again, very good, with some excellent artwork throughout. Looking forward to seeing this one develop.

I also enjoyed the first Mad Max comic which has the back story of Nux and Imortan Joe. This one I had to pay silly money for on eBay, but I'm such a big fan of MM, I didn't want to miss it. I stupidly strolled into my LCS thinking I could pick it up with no worries but every single copy was reserved or bought within three hours or them stacking the shelves!

Haven't got to Providence #1 yet, the new Alan Moore comic, but it's on my reading pile. Same with The Infinity Gauntlet #1. Mind you, the latter was a mistake I think. I thought it might follow up Infinity from a year or two ago, but it doesn't. It's bloody Secret Wars. And the art is pants. Might be heading for eBay unread...

Film & TV / Re: Mad Max - Fury Road

Just finished reading the first of four comics to be published by Vertigo detailing the back stories of the main characters. The first one tells the tale of Nux
(he's the bald groupie that makes Max his blood bank and joins the road trip)
and Immortan Joe. Miller wrote the story, and one of the concept artists did some of the art (Sexton).

It's pretty good. The Nux story is quite short, which is fine, as there's plenty of room to tell Joe's tale. I'd highly recommend it. Seems to be sold out pretty much everywhere, though, with it going for over a tenner on eBay if you can find one. Or you could wait for the TPB which will be released after the comics. I think the comics are being released one a month...

Film & TV / Re: Mad Max - Fury Road

Got back from the cinema about an hour ago. Saw it in 2D. Wow! Can't say much more than that. It really doesn't let up - I think I might need a lie down! The action if pretty much non-stop, with a bit of a pause, and then back into the action again... Don't think I've seen a film that simply doesn't let up like that for two hours. Incredible! Particularly impressed with Charlize Theron's performance.

As for whether it's better than MM2. They are different, and I like them both. But if forced to choose, I'd probably go with MM2 simply because it blew me away at such a young age. Whilst Fury Road did blew me away, I'm too old now for it to have that lasting effect that a movie does when you are young... Or am I? Time will tell, I guess :)

If I had one criticism of Fury Road...
Very little V8 Interceptor - and it gets trashed TWICE! I was practically in tears the second time... The upcoming comic I think explains how Max rebuilds it (as a prequel to this film, he's going to have to start again now!)
I don't do cinemas. It's very rare I make a trip. But I am such a HUGE Mad Max fan, I'm seriously considering a trip when I'm off work in a couple of weeks time. Now I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to theme park rides and such like so have always been put off IMAX and 3D because of motion sickness. I have no idea if 3D and IMAX cause motion sickness, by the way, but it's always put me off...

I first saw Mad Max 2 in the 90s on a late night BBC 2 film season called Moviedome presented by a certain Mark Kermode. I watched it on a portable 14" colour TV in my bedroom and was blown away at how awesome it was. I so wanted a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe some day! Anyway, I want to see Fury Road in a slightly better definition... So what should I do?

Should I see it at our local IMAX, or should I play it safe with the old motion sickness and stick with 2D?

Spikes - You can't beat a good 'PHATOOM'. That's up there with some of Colin MacNeil's 'FOOMS' (one of which I am blessed to have in my collection). Does anyone know if Cam drew it or was it the Letterer? Colin does his own 'FOOMS'. Also, that lettering in the first speech bubble is interesting. That must have either been a lot of fun or a bit of a bugger!

Eamonn - Nice bit of Savage. Love that last panel...

Thanks for all the feedback, chaps. It was great fun catching up with the droids at FCBD...

Colin - You can contact Paul via Facebook or his various blogs. I think he is still selling art, as others have been buying. Dunno if he has any Slaughter Bowl, though, best check direct with him...

Geoff - Yeah we know people love eBayWatch, but we like to vary it a bit sometimes and we had the droid interviews at FB to get out there. Fear thee not, for eBayWatch will return in the next 'cast!

Ah the murky world of eBay... You kind-of love it and hate it in equal measure...

Glad everyone seems to be enjoying the show. We've got some soundbites from droids at Free Comic Book Day in London to share on the next one, including the legend that is Mike McMahon...
