I fondly remember The Stranger, a short series of Doctor Who fan movies from the '90s.

In a similar vein, The Minister of Chance has currently appeared on Kickstarter. They're trying to do a 4-part series based on an audio series of the same name, and the cast includes former Timelords Paul McGann and Sylvester McCoy.

After a much appreciated tip-off in the Marshal Law thread, I picked up the Tales From Beyond Science hardcover very cheaply and have just finished reading it.

The book is truly a thing of beauty, as indeed was the Yesterday's Tomorrows collection.

It seems Hughes' star has risen high over the years, and deservedly too. I have been a big fan since the original run of Dare in Revolver.

So my thoughts have turned to the Sam Slade material by Hogan and Hughes. I have never read it but now would dearly like to. Following on from the coloured Nemesis book, could this be Rebellion's next re-discovered gem?

The good news:

A new run of Takeshi's Castle, featuring material never previously seen in the UK, starts on March 8 (Challenge TV, 10pm, fact fans).

The bad news:

For some impenetrable reason Craig Charles has been replaced.

Got this from Santa and read it today. Decidedly mixed feelings.

Lovely cover by Mike Mignola. Shame it's his only contribution.

Judgment on Gotham is pretty good. I have a sneaky fondness for Bisley art and this is a great example of The Biz in his prime (complete with trademark "dodgy printing" murkiness - couldn't this have been cleaned up digitally?). The script is functional and lightly amusing, but I don't like the portrayal of Dredd, which smacks of Alan Grant's solidily negative portrayal rather than John Wagner's more nuanced take on him.

Vendetta in Gotham reads like a DC comic, complete with the pointless superhero fight (I wonder if the homo-erotic undertones were intended?) and cardboard cut-out villain (The Ventriloquist, not one of the good ones). Cam Kennedy's art is nice though.

The Ultimate Riddle pretty much sucks. A succession of quite boring cliches, although it does have 1 or 2 vaguely amusing lines.

Die Laughing may well have the best script, The Joker complements the Dark Judges nicely and the Mega City One setting helps. Shame Fabry didn't manage to finish it himself, but it's still quite fun.

There's also a Lobo strip that has Dredd in it, which is great if you like that sort of thing. Possibly.

To avoid the FQP guys splitting their own vote I propose we unite behind one title.

My work appeared in Zarjaz during 2011 so I can't impartially propose which title we unite behind.

However, if someone else wants to name a title, I'll vote for it!

So now Prog 2012 is out it's been a year since Gerry Finley-Day's triumphant comeback.

It was a great Rogue Trooper one-shot, that should have led to a series, but then neither Rogue nor GFD reappeared in 2011 (unless I missed it).

What happened?

After Zenith, the second highest profile "lost" strip from 2000AD is surely (what became known as) The Journal of Luke Kirby.

I've been re-reading it recently and what I really love is the Ridgway art. Especially the black and white brilliance of Summer Magic (the only strip I actually remember from first time around).

It's a massive shame that copyright disputes prevent a reprint, but it's rather surprising that a deal hasn't been done. Alan McKenzie does not command a big fee in the manner of Grant Morrison, and Ridgway has already signed the rights back to Rebellion. Personally I would expect a modest cheque would probably clear any remaining obstacles.

The question of the third best lost strip is more vexing. Eliminating the Hilary Robinson material on grounds of quality are we left with Dan Dare? Or is there something else I've overlooked?
