Events / GLASGOW BOOZEFEST?
15 June, 2010, 12:53:06 PM
Its been ages since we did this and I'm no longer under house arrest so hows about a meet up.

My hopes for this evening are that Proudhuff & Buttonman can fight to the death Star Trek style but I'll settle for mildly drunk and a kebab.

Stick yer names up and if there's enough interest we can sort something out, if not I'm gonna go eat worms.

Help! / Star Wars comics - Where to start?
26 May, 2009, 02:42:43 PM
As the resident comic geek in my group of friends I'm the one who always gets hit with stupid questions when a film comes out or there's some article in the papers.

But one of them has asked something which is outside of my experience and went something like the following....

Q - Are there any Star Wars comics?
A - Aye there's hundreds
Q - Where would be a good place to start for my kid?
A - Erm don't know.
Q - Can you get them in German?
A - Erm probably.

The German part isn't terribly important but for a 7 year old kid does anyone know a good starting point? Any decent GN's?

Please don't let me down folks as my geek kudos is at risk here.

Cheers!

Books & Comics / Crossed
06 April, 2009, 02:41:58 PM
Anyone else reading this? I was recommended it by an employee of Forbidden Planet as and I quote "Its the only comic I've read with stump fucking in it".   I bought the first 3 issues there and then.

Its an end of the world type affair by Garth Ennis, people start getting scabby crosses on their face and then turn into depraved maniacs. What happens next is seriously screwed up and not for the squeamish.

I rather like it.

28 April, 2008, 04:31:00 PM
Anyone else pick this up? Its got The Killing Joke (natch) newly coloured by Bolland , sketches and an extra 8 page story written & drawn by Bolland.

The pages seem to be in a larger format and are all wrapped up as a lovely hardback edition.

I think I like it rather more than is healthy and I aint even read it yet.

Off Topic / Stress + More stress = Calm?
15 April, 2008, 04:57:01 PM
Just to let you you know I'm not fishing for sympathy, this is merely and observation.

I'm generally quite and angry, stressed out kinda guy but usually bottle it all up until I eventually lose the plot.

The last month has been incredibly stressful as I will set out below...

Me & Mrs have a new baby boy as well as the 3 year old son so no sleep
We moved house and only got the mortgage sorted 2 days before we moved out
1 day before we moved out discover that our buyers mortgage fell through and we have no cash
2 mortgages and a bridging loan later we actually move
Mum taken into hospital with a mystery illness. Shes seen everyone and they still don't have a clue what's going on.
Wife is told she's on Beta blockers until she can have a heart operation

And yet I cant remember a time when I've been calmer. I think my stress levels peaked and some kind of defence mechanism has kicked in to stop me going on a killing spree.

TBH I'm really surprised at how I'm reacting and so is the Mrs. Past experience tells me I should be gnashing teeth and blowing a gasket.

Is this normal? Anyone else experienced anything like it?

Off Topic / Punctuation?
21 February, 2008, 10:22:58 AM
Ok so I'm trying to toilet train the boy at the moment. Its now so frustrating that we've resorted to bribery with one of those reward charts. I get in last night and the Mrs has her newly made chart pinned up and says "what do you think?".

Now I could have said I like the drawings or nice use of glitter but instead being the great husband I am went for "That's wrong".

So knowing this board settle a mild dispute and for a bit of a laugh tell me which one below is correct...

Adams star chart
Adam's star chart
Adams' star chart
Adams's star chart
None of the above, go back to school the pair of you.

Any other mistakes on this post can also be pointed out cos thats ow you learn fings innit.

Off Topic / Give thanks to the Board...
19 October, 2007, 01:03:54 PM
I was thinking today that thanks to this site I've encountered entertainment that I might have missed otherwise. Im in a bit of a mellow mood so here's a wee rundown of thanks. You all know who you are...

China Mieville - Never heard of this writer but just finished a book of short stories (Looking for Jake) which even had a comic tale illustrated by Liam Sharp. I will now pick up one of his books as I really enjoyed these.

The Wire - Maybe the best TV show ever and folk on here raving about it made me watch, superb.

Preacher - I'd only read the 1st book but have now read the lot, dark and funny. Falls away at the end mind.

Urban Dead - I was addicted to this game for about 2 months.

Helter Skelter - Well I didn't say it was all good entertainment did I? Actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would after the ripping it copped on here.

So anyone else's dull life been enriched thanks to this here old web thingummy?

Right then, using the 2000AD Celebration as a cover for my escalating drink problem and inspired by the other thread who wants to meet up?

We can argue over the wheres and whens later if enough people show an interest?

Well?

Books & Comics / 7 soldiers MIA?
06 September, 2006, 03:59:17 PM
Hi All,
I've asked before but now I'm starting to think I missed this. Did the final issue ever come out (7 soldiers #1) or is it just very, very late?

Cheers.
