Oliver Hollingdale's recent effort got me in the mood to watch this again, my word, it's fantastic as I remembered it, if not better on the rewatch. I loved the fact that it was a jalgemation of both the Dredd film and the comic, and to be honest, I enjoyed this interpretation much better. Edmund Dehn - whoever had the idea to cast him, take a bow! This would look perfectly in place in a Judge Dredd TV series, with Dehn maybe reprising his role (and Greg Staples growing a chin!  :D).

Duncan Jones was saying on his Twitter feed with 2000AD being a British institution, it would make sense for it to partner the Beeb and make a series or two based on some popular strips. God, how I would love to see a Judge Dredd TV series, the BBC have already done a fantastic job with the Doctor Who series, and other shows such as Luther etc. They have the expertise and money to really get something going. Not only Judge Dredd, but how about a Buttonman series? I know a film has been talked of in the past but nothing has happened thus far.

I would love to see the world of Judge Dredd/ Minty revisited again. Steve, Mike and all you guys, I plead with you - please give it a thought! You never know what can happen....

With the creative team behind Judge Minty still on board that is....

I've often said that Dredd would work best as a TV show, an HBO-style procedural set in MC1 with an ensemble cast, not always focusing on Dredd himself, but including the huge diverse cast of characters we've seen in the last 30 years following an overall arc plot. RO-BUSTERS would be a great animated series for the CBBC audience; thematically TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS is similar. My 5 year old loves RESCUE BOTS. STRONTIUM DOG could be a great space western series as well but would fit a filmic trilogy, as would an updated ROGUE TROOPER.

The great thing about 2000ad is the massive portfolio of characters waiting for someone with vision and a sizeable budget to come along and bring them to life on the screen. I don't know if the BBC would be the best home for it though.

I really doubt it would be Dredd/Minty again - if we did something it would be a different strip, and also shorter.

The latter part of that notion is not so great.

Would it be shorter because of budget constraints? If so, I'm sure we can all chip in! But even if it isn't Judge Dredd related, if the same creative team are involved then you can count me in!

Partially, but also we don't want something to take as long as Minty did - it takes time as much money.

The situation with regards to funding is that Rebellion will not allow funding to be raised for fan-films.

It's an understandable position, which a lot of people don't seem to really consider.

If we (or anyone else) ran a kickstarter or raised funds, once the money is raised there is nothing to stop people misusing the money, or failing to deliver. All it would give Rebellion is the potential headache of dealing with the fallout.

If you do it for one, then you've also got the potential that others will ask why they can't do it - again, more headaches.

Dredd's moving pictures rights are with DNA for a good while yet. If Rebellion let anyone raise money it doesn't make it an attractive prospect for anyone else doing a 'legitimate' film/TV/etc.

Marvel recently shut down a Punisher fan film that had already been made (and self-funded).

We should be grateful that Rebellion allow fan films at all.

There is a good article about fan films here.

Thank you for explaining that Steve, and taking the time to do so. It explains a few things. I'm quite surprised Marvel shutdown that Punisher fan film, it was bloody excellent. It's a slippery slope I suppose...

No problem.

There's no real obvious guidelines as to what's allowed and what isn't. Although generally kickstarters will tend to get the wrong sort of attention.

Companies change hands, films get put into development, the only certainty is to not take anything for granted - after all you're playing with someone else's IP.

I doubt you've seen it. The Punisher fan-film Marvel clamped-down on hasn't been released publicly.
