Anyone else watched it?

I've seen the first 3 so far and am in two minds about it.

I'm liking Tom Sturridge.  He's certainly got the look of Morpheus down.  When he relaxes and stops over-enunciating every word, he's pretty much spot on, which is no mean feat

There's something about the general tone of it that just feels a little too in awe of it's source material (like Synder's Watchmen), and there's an air that its extremely keen to emphasis how grown up it is by parachuting in the odd bit of tactical swearing.  It reminds me a little of "Angel" at times.

It's following the order of the comics very closely (basically an episode per issue so far) which should in fairness mean that once it gets past the opening issues which were fairly traditional (hero embarks on quest to regain powers and show audience what his character is) and into the interesting stuff post "The Sound of Her Wings", it could really take off

The decision to set it in a non DC universe is a good one  (but then keeping Cain and Abel seemed fairly pointless for an audience not familiar with DC lore.).

I hope it does well as it's obviously had a very large amount of money and love poured into it.

A shameless plug for a few eBay auctions I've got, ending tonight.

I've reluctantly accepted that Mrs oshii isn't going to change her mind and let me have 2000AD prints on the wall (she's agreed to a page of original art, and that's as far as it's going to go apparently) so these should go to somewhere where their full thrill powered glory can be displayed

I'm selling:

Jock's Mondo Dredd print (don't even want to think about what I paid to get it originally)
Print of Boo Cook's spine art for the Ultimate Collection
The Tula Lotay Death/ Anderson print.

I'm also umming and ahhing about my Zenith omnibus, as I've now got the individual hardbacks.  It's still in the shrinkwrap.

Prog / Prog 1811 Moonshot!
24 November, 2012, 10:46:08 AM
Cover - wraparound from D'Israeli.  Cover of the year so far in my book.

A clearing of the decks for prog 2013 in a stunning way.   To say I'm already looking forward to 1812 is an understatement.  You know somethings going right when you find yourself cheering the next prog boxes on the Dredd world strips.

ABC Warriors and Brass Sun wrap up.  Have really enjoyed these.  Best ABC run for ages and Brass Sun has been best new strip for some time.  Ace stuff all round.

Prog / Prog 1808 - Judge Klegg
03 November, 2012, 10:33:57 AM
Cover by Edmund Bagwell.  Bitey.

Like last week every thrill is on top form.  ABC Warriors (which for me has been the weakest link, comparitively) is the best episode yet.  Bachmann goes into overdrive in Dredd.  I suspect we ain't seen nothing yet.  And all other thrills continue in top quality form.  The prog really is strong at the moment.  Extra thrill circuits required.

Prog / Prog 1790 Shooting Star
30 June, 2012, 11:24:56 AM
Cover - Ezquerra, Durham Red.

Dredd - That's it.  Day of Chaos is over.  New one parter from Al Ewing and Nick Blythe.  Don't know about anyone else but I thought the epilogue was going to go on for a bit longer.  Feels a bit weird not having it.

Durham Red - Final part.  Lovely art, but the story has just been a bit so-so in this, for me

3rillers - Really liking this.  Story and art working together really well.  Really intriguing alternate world.

Ichabod - Not entirely sure what's going on, but enjoying it.  I do really like the narrative style of it, and Reardon's art is lovely to look at.

Dante - Lovely hints of Vlad's back story.  Next weeks is the final ever part!  Noooooo!

I've recently returned to the ways of Thrill Power after 15 or so years off (I bowed out around 900 or so).  I'm busy hoovering up back issues, but I've just got a couple of questions I'm hoping the forum might be able to help with:

1) When did Wagner return to Dredd?  It was all Garth Ennis and Mark Millar round here when I last looked.

2) What difference has the Rebellion take over made?  (other than them sorting out all the Casebooks and other reprints)

3) When the hell did the Megazine get so drokkin' expensive?  £5.49!  And half of it is text!  Actually, that's a point.  I've got the first 2 volumes of the Meg. Is it worth picking up back issues of that?  It doesn't quite seem to inspire the love like the weekly does.

Cheers for any help.  Feckin' loving being back!
