What is this about?

As we all know Rebellion has been the owner of 2000 AD since the beginning of the century. They have kept the publication running and maintained for the last two decades.  We have been blessed with some great stories brought to use by some ridiculously awesome talent.  Another fact that I am greatfull for is that during the current world crisis Rebellion kept on delivering the weekly thrills.

The premise is that you select your top 10 series that was published during the Rebellion Years.

When do we start?

Currently Colin is running a great tourney around the ultimate writers. If you do know about this and you have been hiding under a rock or have been holidaying in the resorts of Alpha Centauri just follow the link: https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=46503.msg1029915#msg1029915

As soon as ultimate tourney is done I will kick-off the top 10 rebellion one.

For how long?

I am open to suggestions, but I was thinking around 2 – 3 weeks to allow you to cast your votes.

How does it work?

1. You select your top 10 series during the Rebellion Years. This is from Prog 1174 publish on 5 January 2000 up until prog 2185 publish on 10 June 2020.
2. The only series not included is Judge Dredd. You can cast you vote for any Dredd-verse series, but our favourite lawman has an unfair advantage.
3. The shorts are all clubbed together so you do not vote for a single Future Shock or Terror Tale but for the whole shebang. The shorts published are: Twisted Tales, Time Twisters, Tharg's Thrillers, Terror Tales, Future Shocks (TFC), Pulp Sci-Fi and Past Imperfect.
4. We are working on a point system that follows the Formula 1 Point System: Points are awarded to drivers and teams based on where they finish in a race. The winner receives 25 points, the second-place finisher 18 points, with 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points for positions 3 through 10. So quite simple only 10 series will be allocated points, but nothing stops you from listing your top 79 series.

Some additional Info:

I will list all the series below which was publish during the above period. If I have missed one you are free to vote for them as long as the series ran during the above mention period.

I will keep track via an excel sheet and everyone is welcome to this just PM me.

This is going to be fun ... but very, very hard! How do we pick 10 from that lot???

Nice tie in to the 20th Anniversary though!

Here are some facts or lies to bore or even sway your vote:

Here is a list of the 10 most prolific series that was published in the Rebellion Years (in brackets in the total appearances):
1. Sinister Dexter (282)
2. Nikolai Dante (213)
3. Strontium Dog (154)
4. TFC (135)
5. ABC Warriors   (128)
6. Slaine (127)
7. Savage (121)
8. The Red Seas   (116)
9. Defoe (89)
10. Grey Area (87)

Pat Mills and Dan Abnett is dominating the list and both these gentlemen are giants in the comic-world.

The world of 2000 AD consist out of multiple different universes here are a few:
Dredd-verse: Anderson, Banzai Battalion, Breathing Space, Cadet Anderson, Cadet Dredd, Chopper, Hershey, Judge Death, Judge Fear, Lenny Zero, Low Life, Marauder, Max Normal, Missionary Man, Orlok, The Simping Detective
Rogue-verse: Hunted, Jaegir, Rogue Trooper, The 86ers, Tor Cyan

The number game:

During the last two decades Rebellion published 1027 progs. 3 of those progs where Regen progs and we had 20 xmas progs (a cool 100 pager every time).

I have counted about 146 series running during this period.

So this is 2000AD only, not the Megazine?  That throws up an interesting anomaly- I don't think I can justify putting the Simping Detective in top ten based on its Prog appearances (as much as I love Trifecta) but would almost certainly if Megazine episodes counted. Plus I would then have to put Lawless in the top 5.

Only prog but if people want we can do a Meg one later on as well

Shouldn't Tharg's Future Shocks be TFS?

TFC sounds more like Tharg's Future Coc--

I'll stop there.

davidbishop

1. Nikolai Dante
2. Sinister Dexter
3. Cradlegrave
4. Leviathan
5. Zombo
6. Shakara
7. Button Man
8. Sancho Panzer
9. Fiends of the Eastern Front
10. Survival Geeks

My top ten:

1. Strontium Dog
2. Brink
3. Sinister Dexter
4. Nikolai Dante
5. Grey Area
6. Kingdom
7. Kingmaker
8. Jaegir
9. Savage
10. Feral and Foe

Bubbling under
11. Slaine
12. ABC Warriors
13. Survival Geeks

Feral and Foe would be higher if it wasn't  so new. I wouldn't have thought I would place Survival Geeks so high after the first couple of series.

I do not know why I choose TFC maybe a form of dyslexia from me. C and S is so close in the alphabet or rather keyboard. Just imagine we have a prog that has a Tharg's Future Coc... what a Shocker

Is it possible for anyone with edit rights to update my post  with the alphabetic list to change TFC to TFS ?

WhizzBang

I would estimate that I have read less than 50% of the Rebellion stuff, being a late returner, so am mainly exposed to newer stuff, Megazine floppies and reprint volumes.

2). Button Man
3). Brass Sun
4). Brink
5). Deadworld
6). Sinister Dexter
7). Strontium Dog
