I always thought Arseface was a bit mean given how closely it was based on James Vance (left):

Well, I learned something today.

Is there any word on a date for the next Shakara trade (or more optimistically, the complete collection)?

Gah, this was pants. Reynolds plays Hal Jordan as a whiny asshole, there are far too many shots of people crying for no reason, and the bad guy looked ridiculous. Every time the film cuts into space and it looks like the story might be about to kick up a gear, it immediatly cuts back to Hal on Earth, busy not being the hero for the standard reasons (Play the "I'm afraid" drinking game, or "The ring chose you", it'll get you soused.)

One plus point though; The flashback to Hal's dad was absolutely hilarious. Like something out of Hot Shots.

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Saw The Runway last night, lovely little Irish film, loosely based on a true story of a small plane crash landing in a small town in Cork in the 80s, and the whole town getting together to build a runway so the pilot could take off again. If anything, it's a lot like the Dish, similarly quirky, small-town humour.

Film & TV / Re: X-Men: First Class - Final Trailer

Just saw it last night, and I was thinking about the continuity; It seems to me that this film isn't meant to fit in with the previous films, I got the impression it's more of a reboot. The ending in particular;
Xavier is in the wheelchair in his late 20s, and he and Magneto are already enemies, which goes against what we see  at the start of X3.
That's not a complaint though. It's a great film, Vaughn has lots of fun with showing the different powers onscreen, and both McAvoy and Fassbender are spot-on (although there is one scene where Fassbender's accent lapses back into Irish for some reason. Bit odd)

Also, brilliant cameo by
Wolverine
This week's ep probably featured one of the most painful-looking deaths I've ever seen on screen. Damn.

I wasn't expecting much after all the reviews, so I was pleasantly surprised. It's not brilliant, but it's a decent couple of hours. There are a few great scenes, the mermaids in particular. On the other hand, the direction feels a bit meh compared to the others (Granted, I think I'm one of the few who liked all three, for all their flaws).

Still, I enjoyed it.

it'll be like a fantasy The Wire. That's sold it to me.

I've heard it called the Sopranos in Middle Earth. Either way, the first episode has got me hooked.

As much as I like James Franco, I'm not sure I can buy him as a maverick brain scientist, or whatever he is.

Feck. I knew there was a more recent one but I couldn't find it.

I just found this in HMV, I didn't know it had been released yet. Better believe I bought it.

Agreed, top notch stuff.

Also, anyone catch the voice cameo by
Scott Bakula
? Very nice touch.

Kick-ass trailer; I'm liking Mr Jones' war speech, and Stark's dad making a cameo, among other things.

After all the gonzo-weapons madness of this series, I wouldn't be surprised if the final parting shot was ridiculously simple, just to mess with our heads. Brenneka may well fall down an open lift shaft.

Will there be a Shakara GN when all the smoke has cleared?
