40 Years of Scream! Hardcover, 464 pages, 25 April 2024

464 pages!  Could this be every issue of Scream reprinted in a single volume?  Has "Diceman" kicked off a trend?  Will we soon see the Complete School Fun for everyone to, er, not buy?

I really want this but would like to order from Rebellion. When's it going on the Webshop?

Origins was...mmm...eight years ago, tops. Something has gone wrong with time.

The best book I didn't enjoy

I was disappointed with this latest series. It felt like there was no real social commentary. It was more a set of short plays than a twisted taking of a modern idea to its ultimate and absurd conclusion. They were good, but not Black Mirror.

With the exception of Beyond the Sea, which had a mind-boggling plot hole: why were their human bodies in space and replicas on Earth? Surely you'd do this the other way round?.

Was there discussion about Battle and 2000ad merging? Genuinely curious, as if there was then I didn't know.

One day, my Prog will come...

Currently getting a Saturday prog delivered every week. Sure, it's the one other subbies got 10 days earlier, but it does mean I am in a nice cycle of getting 2000ad every Saturday!

Art Stars 2023 has concluded, and since I'm not big on social media, I just wanted to take opportunity here to offer a congratulations to everyone who entered - there were some fantastic entries!

The third place runner up entry, 'Dirty Protest', was mine Absolutely delighted to have been selected, it was not expected given the overall calibre of entries.

Congrats to Brett and Alan for second and first place, superb entries both. And a massive thank you to Rebellion, Mike Molcher and Tharg for the recognition and the wonderful shipment of graphic novels!

Considering the last post was 3 years ago, I wasn't even aware that this was even still going. It seems if you're not willing to become a subject of the state of Facebookville (national motto: Privacy is not an option, join us in the sewer of hate), then 2000ad doesn't really give a fuck about you any more. It evolved from the wholesome amateur monthly art comp on this forum, and it was great fun then - a community producing stuff ranging from pro-quality art to crap jokes in MS Paint (with obligatory piss-stains - I'm looking at you Mr SW of Paisley). Rebellion seemed to have washed their hands of this place, even though it's heavily moderated, whilst the facebook groups just seem to be folks slagging off the comic.

If you're posting here, you're in a 2000ad echo chamber. By all accounts, there's another internet out there. Getting Strangers interested in the Prog is no bad thing.

I fear for the forum... it's an anachronism of optimism, from when the internet was new.

I just want an annual.

I used to get a Beano, Cor! and Monster Fun - plus Dredd and 2000ad (and Rogue etc when there was an outlier.)

They were my most precious presents. Looking back, I realise my parents bought them and gave them to my grandparents to pass to me as gifts. They are therefore associated with family.

I still have every annual I got and I really love them. They're great reads if you need a poo quick read.

Done some daft stuff in the past? Learned your lesson? Then pass it on to your sprog.

This is a thread about age. Some of us... should... know better. And the ones to tell it to are our kids.

They're the ones who can learn from us. What I have learned (as the father of an 18, 15, and 13 year old at this point) is that I have a massive influence even though they try to hide it from me. Recently, my oldest went for a job interview. I told him what kind of questions he might expect. He scoffed off to his bedroom, where I then heard him rehearsing answers to my questions. He got the job... out of a few thousand applicants.

So this is a thread for parental pride. For the love of the Sprog.

What have you done to inspire - begrudgingly - your not so little ones?

Tomorrow, my youngest is playing in a football cup final. The Lanarkshire 2010 Cup. I am very proud; their team is one of dozens across various leagues. He is a centre back and better than I ever was, but I like to delude myself that my tips have helped him.

I really hope he does well. And a little part of me thinks he might have got there through my advice...

Ordered. I think this is a fantastic idea and am really looking forward to getting an annual for Christmas once again.

For the record, I would devour a 2000ad or Dredd Annual.

First one. Anything else is wilful attention seeking, like failing to rhyme "prog" with "rogue".

Suspect M.A.C.H. 1 is influenced by eye shadow shots using M.A.C. makeup. And that is the stupidity of AI.

Can't quite remember who the pervy boarder who once licked her leg was, but she seems to be back in a new band with a new single. It was in some Sunday supplement, can't remember which one either.
