Off Topic / Re: Wordery and hardback books
09 February, 2018, 10:36:44 AM
Having walked away from Abebooks for not being as positive for booksellers as it makes out, I looked into Wordery and they're a warehousing operation by the wholesaler Bertrams which sells direct to consumers, so independent booksellers who use Bertrams as their wholesaler now find their wholesaler competing with them.

I've moved over to hive.co.uk who not only source books from indie book stores but you can get free home delivery or collect in a store, and you can also select which store benefits from your custom. Not the absolute cheapest but have had nothing but good customer service from them so far.

Having chatted to David Hine about Tao De Moto some time last year, I believe Myra now lives in the far east and, if I remember correctly (there was beer involved at the time so I'm not 100%) doesn't write anymore.

"In 2019, a television series based on 2000AD is due to be shown on Netflix. It was with that production company, and using his personal wealth from Rebellion, that Modern History is being made."

Trying to cut down on salt, pinch ofs or otherwise.

Not true, I'm afraid. Not sure where the journalist has gotten this from, probably from the fan speculation earlier last year.

Books & Comics / Re: FACEACHE: The FIRST 100 SCRUNGES

I received my copy of Faceache Vol 1 hardcover this week but unfortunately it appears some copies have a printing error where pages 33-48 have been replaced with a duplicate set of pages 49-64. I've only seen this mentioned on an (unofficial) 2000AD Facebook group and haven't seen any official comments anywhere. Unexpectedly, I received a second copy yesterday (I only ordered one and I'm not sure why I've got two*) which has all the the right pages in the right order, so it's not every copy that's affected. The first copy was #46/150 and the second was #62/150. Does anyone know if Rebellion are aware of the fault and, if so, what measures they may be taking to resolve it? (I've emailed Oliver at Rebellion this morning about the matter so hope to hear back from him in due course.)

*I'm wondering if Rebellion discovered the printing fault in a small(?) batch of copies and just sent corrected copies to affected buyers automatically, but then I wonder why no official announcement or explanation?

We were made aware of problems just this morning with the duplication of pages in a small number of copies and orders being mistakenly duplicated. The company that handles our distribution is working to fix the problem and Oliver is dealing with returning and/or replacing copies. Apologies for the problems, which are far below the standards we expect from our printers and distributors.

Just passing by, but I did look at this issue somewhat in The Chief Judge's Man volume of the Mega Collection, citing the work of Sheldon Wolin on 'Inverted Totalitarianism' https://www.amazon.co.uk/Democracy-Incorporated-Managed-Inverted-Totalitarianism/dp/069114589X

Nice! Did you back the Kickstarter? I found the game very confusing to start with, luckily we had a guy on hand to walk us through it and play a few rounds, which is always 1000% better than just reading the rulebook.

It's such a beautiful game and doesn't really look like anything else I've seen before. I think if you were to play in a pub or bar it would turn a lot of heads.

My other half did, so it was a surprise for me when it turned up. We'd only just learnt how to play cassino (historical reenactment FTW) so the parallels meant it wasn't too confusing, though like I said one or two of the rules in the book could do with some elucidation. We played it in the pub on Friday night and had some curious folks ask about it. The excellent design - especially of the luminaries - gives it a certain air of the occult, which doesn't feature at all and, I'll be honest, I kinda wished it did; but that's not a criticism, just my imagination getting away with me.

I went to a launch event here in Portland last night for a game called Illimat that was co-created by one of my favourite bands The Decemberists.

Been playing this for a few nights now. It's essentially the old 'cassino' card game but with a few twists. The rules aren't *super* clear to begin with, but an hour on YouTube later and we realised we'd been playing it right. Better with more than two people, but a lot of fun. Certainly showed me how shoddy my basic arithmetic skills are.

I don't like having to come on here to intercede but I would like to reiterate that aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated and will lead to temporary bans. Disagreements are fine but this thread is over the line - please desist.

Tidy.  Any chance we can show our interest in advance.  Even to the extent of stumping up cold hard cash?

No, sorry - it'll only be at the shows and what's left will be on the shop.

Pity it's only going to be available at the tooth booth at the con.

For unknown reasons the article excludes the detail that any left over after the shows will be available from our online shop. Full details at CBR: http://www.cbr.com/preacher-co-creator-steve-dillon-charity-sketchbook/

But why give away your prime new material which is still shifting trades?

A point raised in this week's podcast - we've seen absolutely zero cannibalisation of sales. The Mega Collection has actually boosted sales of our comics and graphic novels.
