A moderator type person needs to change that header post haste, or this could get ugly. Halo it is.

Unless Fiends is really Brink, in which case the answer is Brink.

This is the single hardest round so far. How can I choose between the two strips that I think are the strongest Tharg has at the moment?

This is painful.

Every time I reread Brink it gets better. I even thoroughly enjoyed the audio adaptation- and those things usually send me off to sleep quicker than a roast dinner, a glass of brandy and an afternoon of James Bond on the telly. Brink is superb, and with this recent series- mostly devoid of the characters we have seen up til now- has proven the format is compelling enough to support many different stories- which is surely the very epitome of what 'Classic 2000AD' should be.

On the other hand, The Out is brain-meltingly good. If it were a novel, I'd be all over it. If it were a tv series, I'd stay in to watch- like we used to do before tv became just 'content', to be consumed as and when we could be arsed.

The two are very different, related only by their writer, almost diametrically opposed in their set-up and themes- as well as their art styles.

Logic says Brink, because we've had more of it. Heart says The Out, because I love it so much.

Heart wins. The Out.

Lawless. One of these days i really should reread Firekind- because it left me completely unimpressed originally, and ive never been able to finish it since. May have to dig out that Extreme Edition and try it again.

But Lawless is a series i can reread from the start every now and again, and can't put it down until the most recent episode has been devoured.

Funt Solo- it really is. And I had no idea of the upcoming two books, but will very much be buying them. Somehow I missed all the kerfuffle about the books back in the day- they were entirely a positive thing in my experience, and can't remember any controversy at all.

But it does occur to me that with new FF gamebooks on the shelves, joining new Target Dr Whos, we now only need reissues of the Pan Books of Horror and Sphere Conans to recreate my entire WH Smith experience circa 1982.

Regular readers of this thread should be made aware that this month's Fortean Times- out today- has a cover and interior feature about Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.

From the cover: "The multi million selling gamebooks that sparked a moral panic and became a cultural phenomenon." Also with an Ian Livingston interview.

Two series I have no love for whatsoever, but Anderson wins this because its not written by Grant Morrison and because of Alan Grant.

I hated Brass Sun when it was running in the prog. Hated it. Many years later (because it *was* years ago now) I reread the whole thing and it became clear that I had misjudged it badly. It's very good, and it's a great shame it never came back. I wonder why, as Tharg obviously invested a great deal in it- hardback edition, US mini series- you'd have thought Tharg would have made more of it a priority.

But even with all that being true, Savage because Pat Mills.

Is it "bigoted" to dislike a certain type of wanker? Well, no I don't think so- and indeed, diminishes the meaning of the word. You should try harder to do better.

Saying that anyone who enjoyed Sandman is a wanker is bigoted, yes. Review your comments and the dictionary and you'll see that I'm using my words correctly.

Except I didn't say that, and you're not. I said the ones I met, who "barked with laughter at other comics" were wankers. My point was that Sandman attracted a readership disinterested in other comics- who thought they were "below them", and that *in my experience* these made up the reader's I met.

I have close friends who enjoyed Sandman- there are some on here, most not- but I strongly disagree with them.

Disliking someone's taste in comics does not make one a "bigot". Disliking that person for their attitudes to other comics does not make one a "bigot". I would strongly suggest you reserve a word like that for appropriate circumstances.

If I seem touchy about this, I was brought up a bigot, and have a daughter who regularly finds herself facing bigots because of who she is.

And Sandman is still a load of pretentious cack.

You're not alone, Jim. Sandman read to me like a series altogether too pleased with itself. Back then, you could "spot Dandman readers, by the fact that they never read any other comics". Which I suppose is good, in a way. But all the ones I spoke to were tedious A Level English students who barked with laughter at all other comics.

I did read the first three or four trades- and still have them- but they were equally as tedious as the people who read them, I thought.

I'm not a fan of Gaiman at all. He's very much the epitome of everything I dislike about the 90s (to current) British 'Dark Fantasy' scene. And also, he's not very good and altogether too impressed by himself. Maybe I never got over the fact that he didn't serve his time at 2000AD, I Don't know.

It's too late to alter my perception now anyway, and I very much doubt I'll ever read Sandman again. I was always a Hellblazer/ Swampy Vertigo person anyway.

As for the TV show- your praise on Facebook has been the only thing that makes me maybe want to watch it. My wife has expressed an interest, but she eats up Netflix series with a voracious appetite, so I imagine she will watch it with or without me. I also expect her considered opinion will either be negative, or it will be "alright, I guess", like with most things.
