I would assume the "major" series are going to get a sampler approach, so they dont overlap with the Rebellion reprints and may even encourage crossover sales of the Rebellion line

I hope so, but my feeling about the JD mega collection is that it has largely reprinted a host of trades I already have and I feel the new 2000AD collection will do the same.  The material is already scanned, prepped, grouped etc.  I know there a tweaks and twists, but every time there's a volume like "America", "Heavy Metal Dredd", "PJ Maybe" etc I have to tell myself this series is for people who haven't already been collecting the trades.

I'm not buying the normal trades now because I can't afford to get the Megacollection as well.
I'd rather get things I don't already have than the 4th or 5th edition of the same thing.
This could be a great way of getting some things that haven't come out before but you might have to wait a couple of years for that. Most will surely be just the big stories again.

Yay! Finally I have evidence I was actually there!
I'm the guy in the black top on the right ;)

Filler is certainly an issue. And the sheer cost is very annoying. I'm not buying any of the new GN's because of buying the Hatchette series.
And yes it needs the 'Dredd' one to finish first! The quality is lovely but there is a matter of too much at once.

How about one a month?

Unfortunately not at a panel - we found her walking through the main corridor, but managed to grab a photo

Wonderful :) Much much deserved and lovely that she came along.

Didn't see the promised choice of free plastic figures but someone explained later that was a promotional mix-up and there was only the chance of winning one.

Yeah, I don't know how many times they had to say it but I heard someone asking about it around 4pm so probably an awful lot, I'd just presumed they would have all gone in the first few minutes so didn't even try. Turns out each of those figures actually takes 6 hours to make. But they are amazing.
Buy the 3d printer for around €3000 and you too could make your own!

Fantastic weekend. Lots of new and old faces and unlike some, I caught several panels and even the live drawing of D'Israeli and Henry Flint. Why weren't these packed-out??!

I managed to see some of the end of Jock's one but just too many clashes for everyone I guess, especially with the mammoth queues. I only got to one of the nerve centre signings and they were constantly on all day. Although of course you got to see other artists at work right in front of you on the tables so that might be part of it as well.

That would have been the 2000AD's Greatest collection since my card was inside that. Nothing about the actual volume that's 'limited edition' apart from the card as far as I can see.

Just need to stick it into the book and then it has a place in my collection as a limited edition ;) It's the memory of where you were when you got it that makes it special, in the droids own hands it came from!

Other Highlights included, chatting to a few of the Scottish lads, only to have King Carlos walk past and everyone stopped, mid sentence and just stair in awe at the man for several seconds...

There was a lot of that going on :) I wanted to see the SD Film and Future Shock but then I wouldn't have been in the bar, and been talking to a few nice people including Tom and the great Kelly Kanayama and also see John Wagner going flying over the sofa in reception when he was looking at his phone.

Finally know what you want as there's a lot of stuff out there and you can wonder aimlessly if you don't focus on what you are after and that can be expensive. Some one hear told me that and they were so right!

I go along the line of is there something you want (character/artist/story) but with many things it's been a matter of does the page grab you, if you flicked through several photos (or the pages themselves) and something stands out then go for that one even if it's not what you might think you were looking for.
I did that with one of Boo Cooks pages on Saturday (sad father of main character from Student Bodies) and with the Colin MacNeil one I got (Robot survivor from Insurrection) which ended up being a Megazine cover. They grabbed me :)

The amazing Planet Replica pin set was something I really wanted so their stall was my first port of call (along with the raffle tickets - No 1 on all of them). A really cheap price for the amazing quality. Theres a huge amount of scope there I think. But then that and the money spent on a lovely piece from Colin MacNeil meant I'd spent nearly half my money in the first 10 minutes!
Quick whizz round for a lay of the land and then to get a seat in the Kingsley panel which I really wanted to be at.

Denise got a KTT? Which panel was that in? Looking forwards to seeing the video for that.

My other half was surprised that I hadn't got more but sadly we have to pay for the mortgage and bills so I held back a bit. Still very happy with everything and would love to do it again, next time my other half can come along as well and she said she could wait in queues for sketches etc ;)

It could down to how rarely some of them make an appearance at comic cons?

And also what other things were on, how long you thought you could wait etc. I basically gave up on the idea of the big names for signings, only managed one nerve centre signing as well but managed 3 panels. If it took an hour to queue up for some then you wouldn't want to pull out to see someone else I suppose.
Lookslike if I had hung around those tables it might have been different.
But then it was lovely that other artists and writers were hanging around other peoples tables, buying things, meeting them etc.And the amount of time I spent watching people like Book Cook and Mark Sexton doing other peoples artwork was lovely :) I should have got sketches from them as well but it was doing my back in standing around as it was!

Amazing day, But yes the bar staff were awful!

There's so much going on, I'm sure that the people attending will also appreciate it as well.  ;)

That is exactly what I was thinking Steve. Thanks Molch-R! Puts my mind at ease.

Yes sorry, I meant streamed but Facebook says '...we are planning to make some of the programming available after the event.' but that might just be odd clips. Hopefully not as Rebellion is very good what with the length of podcast interviews etc.
But then if that is happening then us recording talks shouldn't be a problem then, just to make sure.

They could record everything and release it as a special dvd ;)

Thing is if that's already full by 6.00-6.30 the last signing will attract everyone else that is left so that could be rather manic for them.

I do wonder why it says *limited capacity available for the 2 films but not before as surely it's limited all through the day?

That we know none of it is being recorded I'm also guessing that Rebellion won't want anyone else recording the talks etc and putting it up on YouTube either which makes choices even harder.

Sorry Skullmo, assumed you meant not reprinted in the Mega Collection given the thread.

All early Dredd has of course been reprinted at some time and is currently in the Case Files and Restricted Files. Only the 4 Cursed Earth episodes had escaped until recently.

It's the selling of it as the Mega Collection. So it needs to be mega even if that means something is being printed again, unless it should only be Mega Collection years x to y, that would work, just ignore the early years totally and leave that to other already published titles maybe.  I see these amazing quality books publishing subject groups in a different way. So the first 20 would be one character or stream, the next 20 would be someone else so collectible in smaller clumps or still as a whole. That way you could continue to bring out more and more ad infinitum. Also means you could bring out the newer materials that are currently in tpb into the hb's much later on when most people already have the original tpb but keep continuity of hb groups.

Maybe this is for the future as the quality of these hardbacks is really good. And in a good size for bookshelves!

Pat Smith?

Are they extending comic mergers to the editors now?

:) Sorry I was thinking Pat Sharp, the one with the big hair

I'm thinking talks is the way to go as well but how many of us will be able to go to them, always a perennial problem! So it might be a matter of seeing what you can get to and adapting from then.

If I had lots of money I'd be at every single table and buying stuff but as I don't I'm not sure what exactly I'll be doing either. Signatures would be nice, especially as there is a book for that in the bundle ticket and there is a nice mix of people doing it. I'm guessing the Nerve Centre signings are at the 2000ad tables in the Interactive Zone.

The benefit for this con is that there are a fixed number of people that they have planned around. Obviously knowing some people would rather get Pat Smith's autograph than go the Wagner/Ezquerra talk (not me) sort of thing.

Sounds like a fair few people dressed up as well so theres going to be a lot of photo opportunities on the day so I might well be doing a lot of that as it's easy to be quiet and tuck myself into a corner!
