I see from elsewhere there is a good turnip of jocks at Dreddcon. Just to be contrarywise I'm in Glasgow on Saturday, I may even manage a pint in the effty...

Anyone suggest a howff in the miidle of Weegieland, or should i just stick with The Horseshoe? anyone avaible fir a pint?

Just saw the collected Vol II in the shops, nice hard back but at 19 quid I put it back and bought the last 3 issues of Losers instead, ho hum there's always Santa...

For anyone who's interested, Royal Mail will be bringing out a set of ten 1st class stamps on 26 February 04 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first publishing of the first part of LOTR in 1954.

The art work will all be JRRT's orginal artwork portraying:

A Middle earth map
Forest in spring
the fellowship dust jacket image
Rivendel
The Hall @ Bag End
Orthanc
Doors of Durin
Barad-Dur
minas tirth
Fangorn Forest

The detail may change before issue, but I've seen them and I'm quite sure JRRT fans will be happy as its all aboot the books and JRRT with the Tolkien estate and the Bodleian library both involved in the development.

Just picked up two issues of WAR STORY by Vertigo comics and loved em, one complete story in each issue.

'Condors' by Ezquerra/Ennis, issue dated March 03, The spanish civil war through the eyes of a non-nazi German, an Irish Green shirt, an English socialist and a Spaniard fi Guernica, good story telling with a wealth of detail, Ezquerra's as good as usual.


'The Reivers' with Cam Kennedy's artwork (Jan 03)has all the stuff I love about Cam's work, the skinny German at the start is fabby he even gets to draw Border Reivers! Interesting dichotomy between the two officers and their reasons for fighting.
The only problem I had with this story it seems to be about the Long range Desert patrols group but they all have the SAS badge on their black/blue berets, I thought, correct me if I'm wrong, the SAS grow out of the SOE after WWII, or did I mis-remember that one?  

The only other comic from this line I've read was D-Day Dodgers, it was excellent as well, so it also comes highly recommended:)  the only problem with that was Hammish Henderson wasn't created with the song.

I'd recommend any of these, well worth the cost of 2 pints each.

I got my PC version of Dredd vs Death and it seems to load okay but when I click the icon the PC closes down and the re-boots, aggggh!

This happened with the Demo but i assumed it was just a cruddy demo... Is it a virus? or just stupidity and general Luddite-ness?

The Hebridean Mink Project is a five-year nature conservation initiative aimed at eradicating the alien predator, American mink (Mustela Vison) from the islands of North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist, and significantly reduce their numbers in Harris in a bid to protect internationally significant population of ground nesting birds. The project has been set up by a partnership of Danny Glover, The Scottish Executive, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (the local auhtority for the Western Isles),Arnies Big Guns, and Western Isles Enterprise. The total cost of the project is expected to be ?1.65m. Now who's going to offer to rescue these wee beasties just like the Hedgehogs recently?

In Pat's wonderful intro to Charlies War he states that he wanted to continue with the story with Charlies' brother progress in the RAF, including the bombing /gassing Kurds in the 30's (somethings dont change eh?)

Do you think there would be a home for that story in either the meg or the 2K?

I'd love it myself especially with Cam Kennedy on the artwork, oh and the controversy, sure to push up sales...

The bones of the fish have been slowly restored
A skeleton of the biggest fish ever to inhabit the world's oceans has been put on display in Glasgow.
The fish, a leedsichthys problematicus - or Big Meg as the fossil has been nicknamed - measures more than 15 metres in length.

Experts believe it would have swum the Middle Jurassic seas 155 million years ago, at a time when dinosaurs dominated the land.

With more than 900 bones collected, Big Meg is said to be the most complete specimen in any collection in the world.

The skeleton was sold to the Hunterian Museum, now part of Glasgow University, in 1915 by the Peterborough fossil collector Alfred Leeds, whose wife Mary Ferrier Fergusson came from Glasgow.
