I thought that seeing as I was home, and had one of my sketches uploaded, I might as well kick this off.
As it was bound to happen!
First sketch of the day: Lobster Random by Boo 'Can I do you a Random Lobster Instead?' Cook.
(sorry it's so huge...)
First one up, Sino - Cit Judge by Colin McNeil.
Although, with that chin, it could be Joe:
Drat:
Double drat:
That's better. More Sketches to follow once the sun comes up and i can use daylight.
AI: Resize that pic dude, it is seriously distorting. Max width 650 pixels.
Bolt-01
The first from the combined haul by Dan and myself:
Ack, sorry Bolt!Any chance Wake can take it down and I'll post a better sized one later? Be very gratful if that's possible.
That's a pretty good idea Max, really nice sino-Judge as well!
My second one, a Geek from Anthony Williams (who is
not Andrew Currie... As my nerve-addled brain suspected him to be.)
Right, Sprogs are watching some pap on Cbeebies so here we go!
The crimingly over-looked (and way ahead of his time) Artie Gruber by the equally over-looked Rufus:
Luther Arkwright by slighty barking but really nice Bryan Talbot:
Spider-man by John McCrea - done with a blunt crayon!
Wotserface from Invasion by Charlie Adlard:
The next bunch are part of a theme i wanted to try out this time - to see the current Droids taking on classic 60's/70's British Characters.
First up, Dredger by John McCrea:
Billy The Cat by the brilliant Dylan Teague:
Love all the sketches but this is my second favourite - Janus Stark by Dom Reardon.
So good i'm gonna update it as my icon - will be in touch soon Max.
Saved the best till last - The Spider by Jock.
Brilliant interpretation of the classic character.
Made all the better (and this applies to all the Droids i put on the spot this way) by the fact that there was no warning whatsoever of what i was gonna ask.
Thanks chaps - really appreciate it!
E
Sadly I don;t have the ability to post images but all I will say is that Dylan Teague is a very bad man with a warped sense of humour.
AIES. resize the image and reload it up with the same name, that way it changes automatically
Max: I would if I could. But like I already said, uploaded it to imageshack with no control over deletion. I already have a resized version, so if Wake could delete the original I'd be very grateful to him...
Oh and Max, I was watching as Dom was drawing the Janus sketch. Completely mesmerised by the level of detail he was putting into it.
Yeah, and it was good to see he was enjoying it too.
If whoever owns the rights to the fella decides to ressurect him, then Dom's the man.
Come to think of it, Gordon would be poifect for the scripting too.
A Fiendishly good sketch by Colin MacNeil... can you tell what it is yet?
Continuing the Beano-Cabs crossover I've been getting from Dom for a while, Hannah Chapter as Minnie the Minx:
that's a fiendishly good sketch
Steve Roberts gives Thatcher what she deserves :)
Rufus was kind enough to draw this for me despite me getting drool all over his Carlos pages...
Oooh! Is that sketch a not-so-subtle hint that Fiends of the Eastern Front is returning?
Luther Arkwright by the gentleman and scholar Bryan Talbot:
could be... ;)
"I suppose that's the worst thing about being a zombie, isn't it? The smell..."
Zombie (with flies) by Charlie Adlard.
And Hot Shootah Action from Al Ewing.
My sketches will probably have to wait for about a week until the scanner is unpacked in its new flat.
Got a good haul tho'
Dan
Ah, so that's what the Hannah the Minx and Maggie-being-eaten sketches turned out like! :D
A fine job from Mr Roberts there, though I'd be happier if she looked like she was in much more pain... Possibly if she was half-digested?
The first Svetlana of the day, by Mister Adlard.
Bolt-01
We demand the Scorpitross!
(And possibly the lion with tentacles for legs and a sharks mouth thing...)
Its good to Adlards decicision making between composites.
(the blue and black pen)
see
>We demand the Scorpitross!
Who actually drew the mighty 'Scorpitross'?
Lee O'Connor (spelling possibly incorrect) is the genius who designed the 'look' of Scorpatross. He gave it to me, though, and I don't have a working scanner... I'll see what I can do, but perhaps Lee should hurl caution into the hyperwinds of the Death Planet and summon the nine satanatomic eyes of Mahu to watch over his demented sleep as he invokes the double-doom deadliness of...
SCORPATROSS II: TWO BEAKS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
And then when I finally get hold of a scanner they can fight it out online in a battle of PSYCHEDELIC VENOM (Spurious's touch I believe).
"If whoever owns the rights to the fella decides to ressurect him, then Dom's the man.
Come to think of it, Gordon would be poifect for the scripting too."
You've not read Albion, then?
Submitted without comment...
Albion's good - when it appears - and is a lot of fun, but i was thinking more of full length continuations of his strip.
Maybe if it's successful enough...
I guess you'll just have to satiate yourself with the Titan reprint books (if they ever come out).
Ain't holding my breath.
Have to content meself with various annuals and that collection of comic tales that one of the Boarders was flogging here a couple of years back.
So that's what became of the Machine Gunnin' Schoolgirl!
D'Israeli and his bears, possibly my favourite one of the day...
AI: your bears one is my favourite so far.
- "I told you I was evil," said the Trout
Done with a blunt Crayola! Show off!
Bolt-01
"I was thinking about offerring to do you a cover, what do you think?"
"Oohh...I don't know about that John, we're pretty full as it is..."
McCarthyism for Jonathan.
:-) Rufus
Perhaps smaller....
"AI: your bears one is my favourite so far."
Yes, that D'israeli is a clever chappy. Even watching him draw something as simple as Dredd was a delight.
Have to admit, I was going to chicken out and ask him for something else... Couldn't think of anything he hadn't already done at the time though. (Glad I didn't now...)
OOOOhhhhh Thanks Rufus, that's fantastic.
And in my very own little sketch pad, cheers.
I'm in London over new year and the drinks are on me!!!
My pleasure dear Sir! Here's a Staples, I may have shown you already. Got Greg to do it in Bristol!
Uuuuhhhh!!! FAN-TAS-TIC!!!
No Rufus I havn't seen that (or any other) sketch you've got for me. Many thanks.
What about London over new year, you about for a drink?? email me.
Cheers again.
J.
Absolutely! look forward to seeing you!
:-) R
The ever wonderful Mr Roberts did this for Dan. Missed seeing him myself which was a shame.
Bolt-01
Oooh, that's a nice Dredd!
Anyway, here's Magister by the extraordinarily taltened Dom Reardon.
tonnyxtubbs
Here's the sketch Mr Williams did for my mate Luke. I think it's excellent.
Like, zoiks!
Bec & Demon, Steve Roberts.
Boo couldn't decide whther this was a before or after shot of Guthrie (see Blood trails) so se went for during.
Bolt-01
He looks very relaxed for a man who's about to die! Credit to the justice department!
Yeah, the Ninja Badger that eliected an 'Oh God' from Colin McNeil when I asked for it...
Boo should've drawn Blood Trails ... *mutter*...*mumble*...
The ever pleasant Jock, who was playing name the boarder by the time we got to him....
Bolt-01
Mr Bryan Talbot.
Bolt-01
I was quite surprised that so few people seemed to be approaching Mr. Talbot. He seemed to have quite a slow day compared to some.
That is a lovely sketch though, Bolt. And I quite enjoyed watching Jock churn out the Dredd's.
Anyway, Rogue Trooper, by Dylan Teague.
Somebody give this man a series.
Bolt-01
Bolt-01
Another one I sat and watched Dom draw... Looks even more impressive on paper!
Anyway, Patrick Goddard does less of a sketch and more of a full-blown illustrastion.
Continuing with his theme of getting folks to draw nightcrawler of the X-men...
Dylan Teague for Mini-bolt.
Bolt-01
coR more excellent sketches there ladds, all very fine & tasty.
damn it to hell why didnt i get a grey marker in art shop spree yesterday, dylan does a fine gray marker thing.
& clip frames for sketches? stupid shops.
Yes, I have fond memories of people shouting out little scraps of Nightcrawler's appearance to help Dylan out. Although why somebody decided to mention he's blue I have no idea...
That's actually a really nice sketch considering!
"I'm drawing a picture of Wolverine slashing prices with his adamantium claws!"
This is the first time I've managed to get Jock to do a sketch for me.
I'm chuffed with it.
Bolt-01
Just to continue the Jock theme...
Mr Anthony Williams.
Never got to him myself- which was a shame as I'd have liked a VC from him to compliment the D'Izzy one I got in Bristol.
Bolt-01
Dan was getting a lot of robots this year...
Bolt-01
Courtesy of Mr Fabry whilst standing at the bar...
Bolt-01
I wonder if Charlie was getting asked for anybody else this year...
Bolt-01
Last one from me, Luther Arkwright from Mr. Talbot.
Rubber stamp time:
That "one sketch fits all" thing bugs me.
I've got a Dylan Teague Dredd that's appeared in quite a few other boarders' sketchbooks.
These guys are very talented artists, so it just feels kinda lazy when you get a "clone" sketch.
Then again, what do you want for free?
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm just glad to get a sketch from these guys.
To avoid a standard sketch just ask for something different, even a 'Luther Arkwright face on please Mr Talbot' should do it.
Well, I didn't even realise he'd done that one. I didn't ask him for it, he just drew it quickly in the book I brought off him. So I'm not complaining.
Doesn't annoy me.
I've got a Torquemada by Talbot, that looks like every other Torquemada sketch he did that day. But the main thing is this one's my Torquemada sketch, and I watched him do it.
"But the main thing is this one's my Torquemada sketch, and I watched him do it."
Exactly - it's free, you have a natter and watch the artist at work.
Having said that, i wouldn't want my book to fill up with the same characters all the time, so have asked for characters they're not known for:
It's not a massive problem for me, or anything.
It's just my own petty gripe - some people are never satisfied!
It's not like they're driving a truckload of Stabilo markers into a bus queue of blind crack orphans or anything...
Has anyone got Gibson to draw them Richard Dreyfuss yet?
Id like to know, because I would like him to do me a Dreeyfuss as Gibs' style is perfect for Dreyfuss' bonestructure.
There is a pic of the balanced actor in a story he did the art for isn't there?
Last one from the Bolt clan.
The ever wonderful Mr D'Isreali.
Bolt-01
I might be able to get my sketches scanned tonight - If so do people want a sketch a day - or big info burst?
Dan
I'd say sketch a day! Makes it far more interesting and keeps the thread rolling longer.
A sketch a day keeps the thrill-suckers at bay.
Hopefully we can keep this going till Brighton, then there will be enough material to keep a thread running for weeks!
Bolt-01
Well I'm not sure I got that many, but I'll make a stab at it.
Dan
And so it begins.
I had a theme this year, asking droids for, more-or-less, a doodle, something that they would draw for themselves if mucking about.
Put them on the spot a bit for which I apologise, however there were some great results, such as this one by Boo Cook - suggested by Ian Edginton.
Watched Boo draw that- did a cracking Job.
Bolt-01
oooo Booo puts the yum into viking !
shall try & get my other sketches up sooonish.
#2 - Anthony Williams - not sure if this was a self portrait
Third one from D'Israeli. This is certainly a self portrait ;)
Thought I'd move posting to lunchtime for more comments
John McCrea
Glenn Fabry, with uneeded apogies
He had a thing for ducks that day, didn't he?
That one was drawn after DXBs, which doesn't seem to have turned up yet...
Colin MacNeil
That's aces!
Yeah, that really is grand :D
Wow Dan, that's lovely. Such a delicate line.
Bolt-01
Jumping around a little here as I've got a bit of a treat for tomorrow.
Today though, the one none "doodle" of the weekend - Rose Tyler by Bryan Talbot.
I think you've been watching too much of this newfangled Dr. Who - what I think you meant to say was 'Rose Wylde'.
Arses. I knew a brain fart was in process when I typed it.
Oh well. Perhaps I should get Wake to edit it ?
;)
Oh. Wow.
Thanks to Rufus for giving Jock inspiration for this one.
I've not bunged up any sketches as a result of my lack of scaner based situation.
Yup, I nearly stole that....
:-) R
Jock ye talented git....
That actually strikes me as an older, much more grizzled kind of Alpha. Might just be me, but I like it all the same! And of course, it's from the mighty Jock.
It just the chinage where shown, I could easily mistake that for a dredd
You should be using caps, it should read:
"And of course, it's from THE MIGHTY JOCK!".
Not to be confused with his cousin...the Mighty Quinn, or Tharg of course.
;-) R
Nor the ever-mighty BOOSH
Or his hammer-wielding Scandinavian cousin...
There's 3 remaining sketches in the book. All from Boarders. Drawn Saturday night.
Shall I post them over the next three days, or do Al, Pete and Nat want to offer money for them to stay buried?
Dan
Everyone knows I can't draw, and I had a day-long merciless hangover that lasted right into the club afterwards, so I doubt anyone will be surprised that I drew the throbbing pain in my head in sketch form.
Why should Nat be worried?
Hell, why should mr Ewing be worried with genius such as this under his wing?
No, really, I'm mystified, dumbfounded and probably heavily misspelt
Nowt wrong with nekkid Cthulhu. I just need to draw better tentacle tits next time.
hey, everyone knows I can't draw either. And I'm not bothered about the strangely lame products of my drunken mind being paraded on the internet, because I've been doing that myself for a while ;)
Well having now given warning to those concerned that it'll happen (which was all I was really worried about), I'll start with Nat's sketch lunchtime...
Pete is of course, being too modest. He's done some lovely work bringing a strip to life fo the second edition of Lost Property, and he's done more big Dog too.
Bolt-01
To start with then, Nat's Cthulu Nude...
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Cthulhu with clothes...
"he's done more big Dog too."
That's a euphemism though, isn't it?
Al's Day Long Hangover
Final Sketch of the lot.
Pete
Dan, that last one is mental. Result!
Bolt-01
I think it is fair to say that there was beer involved.
However it was also by Pete, so how much of a part the beer played is open to conjecture... ;-)
Anyone else going to keep us going until Brighton?
Yeah, two weeks- ten sketches.
I found one of Dan's Dreddcon sketches that wasn't scanned before. I'll get that on the board after the weekend (unless I get the chance before then)
Bolt-01
I have Etrigan the Demon John McCrea did for me. And I'll get around to scanning it eventually...
Last one, reprise!
Dan has recently found this 'cheeky' little number by Patrick Goddard.
It shows an outtake from a supersurf 10 warm-up where Chooper was filmed 'doing a Radcliffe'.
Bolt-01
yipes ! despite many promises, ive still got lots of unseen sketches, what are the chances of me getting them scanned & uploaded in next 5 days or so ?
maybe later ?
finally !
lots more... if time..
This was request of Mini-Bou & juve-2 at moniaive, Frazer probably thought 'ahhh little girls like kittens',
but what the deviants were actually meaning is:
"batmans so gay he should have a pet kitten"
That is classic Bou! :D
And yeah, I remember Mr. Goddard drawing that for Bolt in miniture, he was actually getting a sketch from Dylan Teague then as well... At the same time.
Heh, that Mini-bolt. King of the sketch queue.
Bolt-01
He truly is more machine than boy.
A short, ginger, squeeky machine.
Obviously.
