Creative Common / Branding a Superhero
15 June, 2015, 01:41:01 PM
Hi Everyone

My company www.eatsleepthink.com has just pro-bono branded a local not-for-profit organisation in Sheffield, named The Friends of Alec Syphas, of which they have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/freindsofalecsyphas and Twitter feed @friendsofalecsy

The organisation is there to build awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and to help the parents of Alec Syphas, a superhero obsessed 5 year old, and provide him a decent quality of life in contrast to the illness that he is suffering from. There is more information about Duchenne in the About section of the page, but the main significant aspect of the disease is that not only is it life inhibiting, it is life shortening - Alec's life expectancy is around 20 years old.

All I'm asking you good folk is that you have a look at the Friends of Alec Syphas Facebook page and if you are on Facebook please like the page and share it amongst your friends. I am hoping that our great community of like-minded comic book fans and our generosity of spirit, that is often expressed in buckets when folk need our help, will spread the word further about Alec's disorder, and the more we share, the more awareness we create.

Thank you all for taking your time to read this.

If you want to learn more about how we created the brand, the symbology behind Alec's superhero crest etc. please have a read here: http://www.eatsleepthink.com/blog/branding-a-superhero

Cheers
Mike

PS: Before any of you mention it we are aware that friends is spelt wrong in the Facebook link, was like this before we came along and we are communicating with FB to get it sorted.  :)

Events / Wales Comic Con - Wrexham, 30th November
09 October, 2014, 08:40:59 AM
Hi Folks

Is anyone going to this? My son is at Uni in Wrexham so I'm going to kill two birds with one stone for the weekend, but to be honest I'd never heard of it until this year.

I have a copy of Dredd on Blueray and I have a copy on DVD, so I thought who else would like a copy and everyone I know has one. So I thought I'd buy five copies, the max you can on Amazon in a day BTW (or I can) and I'll give them away, well sort of.

One guy has already won a copy, Craig Rees, not sure if he's a boarder or not, through Facebook.

So I have four copies to give away, one each to the first four people who can PM me the code to Ma Ma's apartment - it's in the film.

Good luck!

Mike

PS: This is in no way linked to Rebellion or such like, it's just a bit if fun and something to justify me buying lots of copies of Dredd :-)

PPS: I've ordered them from Amazon, but they'll not be here until the 24th - 28th - because they have run out , but they are ordered and I can post them on when I get them.

I don't normally do this type of thing but I'm not impressed with this at all and I need to get it off my chest. Let's start off with that comment and take it from there.

I do love Nelson Daniels' work though, but it's lacklustre in this issue and has been trailing off over the past few issues - whether it's a script fault or just a lack of interest in the characters from the artist I'm not sure, but compared to Wild Blue Yonder (the new comic from IDW launched last week which is brilliant) his work is missing depth and soul, plus some of the comedic parts of the script / strip just make me cringe.
There is one bit where Dredd get's eaten by a robotic bin that really made me do a double read and nearly made me weep in it's pathetic attempt at capturing the ironic comedy that makes the British Dredd great.
Add to all this a slip up on the pagination in the digital edition which just added the icing to the shit-cake
that was the end of 'The Great Fail' and the start of 'The Cursed Earth'.
Oh, the cover I quite liked - very graphic, iconic, interesting and engaging but it was fancy gift-wrap on a second-hand jigsaw puzzle that a two-bit Aunty gave you when you were 8 because they needed to get back in the good books of your parents (long story, yes I'm bitter, and this issue has regurgitated very old wounds).

BUT, this is not the reason I'm pissed at this issue. It's the tail end story that had me most shocked, and disturbed.
Basically to set the tone for 'The Cursed Earth' we learn that mutants are well mutants - they have three eyes, they marry have wives, and then have lovers that are young boys with two mouths. Yep, cursed earth muties are peados - I'm a bit lost for words and don't really know how to finish on this point but I just think it was unnecessary.
So I'm not impressed.

...go on you know you want to.

I'd ask him if he knew that Riverdance would become as big a hit as it has when he was stepping out onto the stage during the Eurovision song contest all those years ago.

Just been chatting to Denise seeing as my Prog has not arrived this week, and as always we were chatting away and she mentioned that she was really busy because lots of people are subscribing to the Prog and buying 2000AD merchandise because of the Dredd film coming out.

Got to be a good thing.

Help! / The Sound Boutique Christmas Quiz
01 December, 2011, 11:50:14 AM
Hi Folks

A good friend of mine, Giz, runs a music production company called 'The Sound Boutique'.

For Christmas he's running a music quiz to raise awareness of the OKMT Trust: http://okmtrust.co.uk/

Firstly we'd love you to just like 'The Sound Boutique' and get involved in the quiz, that would be great the more people involved the more the fun, also we'd like you to spread the word on your Facebook pages about the Quiz and most importantly OKMT.

Secondly we'd love it if you have any prizes you could donate to the quiz, doesn't have to be music related, but if you're an artist how's about offering a signed sketch? Or maybe you have some old comics lying around gathering dust, a toy you have two of, anything that would help would be really, really great!

Have a look at the FB page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Sound-Boutique/110161959073672

Or PM me if you have any suggestions or want to mail Giz direct.

I hope some of you can help.

Cheers
Mike

Just found this via the Airfix page on Facebook.

These are recreations of 1950's Airfiz kit packaging, and they are beautiful:

He's also written a Sci-Fi book, and I've read the first few paragraphs and it sounds very interesting - I may purchase...

Just thought I'd post :-)
