General / OZ readers.
24 April, 2020, 05:35:47 AM
Hi,

It's been a long time (10-15 years ) since I read 2000 AD and I'm keen to get back into it; unfortunately the comics landscape has changed dramatically in Sydney Australia.

I used to be able to get it from most newsagents and there were several comic stores who carried it as well as back issues and graphic novels.

Sadly this has changed with few newsagents carrying magazines let alone comics and most comic stores closing down.

So, a question...

If there's any readers in Australia; where are you based and how do you get your copy of 2000 AD?

If you subscribe rather than buy locally what's the service like? How quickly does it arrive in Australia? Given Australia Post will do the last leg of delivery what's the condition like when they arrive (I'm nervous that the postie would fold them to get it into the letter box....)

Thanks for your help guys.

Classifieds / 2000 AD free to good home in Sydney OZ.
19 November, 2008, 06:37:51 AM
Hi Guys,

Been a long time since I was here. For years I've been collecting 2000 AD and other related comics. Along the way I've picked up a huge amount of doubles. I've been thinking about getting rid of them for a while now but .....well I'm lazy and spending time listing them on ebay doesn't really appeal with me. So I never got up off my arse to move them.

So life goes on and my wife and I are expecting our first child in a few months and I realise it's really about time I got organised and cleared some space.

I'm too lazy to list them on ebay and I couldn't bear to bin them or take them to a 2nd hand bookstore, as I'd prefer someone who was into 2000 ad actually got them.

Now if there is anyone in Sydney, Australia after some free comics give me a yell and I'll hook you up. I haven't gone through the comics in years so I can't say what's in them. From memory there are a couple of hundred 2000AD doubles. I also want to get rid of the reprint comics: Best of 2000ad, Complete Judge Dredd, US Fleetway and Quality Comics reprints of which I think there may be a few hundred. All of these are in assorted condition. If I get any interest through this post I'll take a look and send you a more detailed listing.

Cheers

General / collectors in Sydney, Oz?
06 February, 2006, 11:56:23 AM
G,day guys,

I haven't been around here in a long time but I thought I'd check in.

I currently have in my collection several hundred doubles in assorted condition and am looking to get rid of them.

I could put them on ebay, but in australia tooth isn't that popular so I probably would get tghat much for them. So it would'nt really be worth my time and effort of sorting, them, listing them and then shipping them.

So I was wondering if there was anyone in Sydney that wanted all or some of them? I would prefer if someone who could come collect them as I'm back to square one if i have to pack and send them.

well anyone want some free thrills?

Help! / Good things to do.
28 January, 2005, 08:36:18 PM
G'day,

In October my partner and I will be travelling overseas. We're doing 2 night in Singapore, 2 weeks in Egypt and 2 weeks in England.
The main reason for going to the UK is to see my family (I haven't been there since 97 and it's the first time I've travelled there without my parents.) However we want to do and see a few things while there.....not really sure what though!

We'll probably see a few historical attractions but we're interested in doing a few cultural things.

We're both into films, music and comics (well ok she isn't but I think I could convince her to go to something comic related)

I'm keen to know if you guys have been to any galleries, museums, exhibitions etc that are music film , comic or pop culture related and if it was any good.

I'm wondering is dredd con usually in october?

Oh and Devon's Daddy adn TankGirl what would you recommend to do and see in Singapore. We've only got 2 days there so I want to plan ahead so not to waste time.

Thanks Guys.

General / the complete collection.
20 November, 2004, 02:55:30 PM
G'day,

Back when I first started reading 2000ad I had this Grande idea of "a complete collection" comprising all things 2000ad (2000ad, the meg, all the uk and u.s reprints, graphic novels etc)

A while back I abandoned this idea and decided that a complete collection is every story printed.

Coupla questons:-

What does everyone else regard as complete collection?

Was there anything original in the reprints?

If you where looking at a collection with all the stories printed what would it contain?

Cheers

Matthew.

General / am I a nutter?
03 June, 2004, 01:56:46 AM
G'day.

For the past couple of years I have been buying 2000ad back issues of ebay. Is Australia it is rare to see these comics pop up. So often you have the same bidders bid against you.

I have had the same bidder bid against me probably 50+ times, sometimes he's won other times me.

Tonight I emailed him to say hello!

I suggested that he check out this site & asked him about how he got into tooth.

I also suggested we work in tandem and look out for issues the other was after whenever near a thrill merchant and I had doubles if he needed anything.

So basically I emailed a complete stranger. Someone Ihave only had contact with by bidding against them.

Is that normal?

Help! / look out for look in
13 April, 2004, 03:16:52 AM
G,day.

I remember before I left England that my parents had my name printed in Look In magazine for my 6th or 7th birthday.

Sadly my copy disappeared in the last 20+ years and I'd love to replace this piece of my childhood.

I had a look on Ebay the other day but realised that Look In was probably a weekly mag so it might be hit and miss trying to find the particular issue it was in.

Not sure if this would be the kind of thing to be kept in libraries. If it is...could some of the Boards Librarians check to see if they can find my name in an olde issue.

If I can nail it down to a particular issue then it should be easier to find one to buy.

My name is Matthew Hunt Birthday 18th feb. It would have been printed in feb 82 or 83 (most likely).

Cheers

Heya Guys,

I watched 2 fast,2 Furious the other day. Not a bad movie as far as big dumb fun goes.

SPOILER

Anyway there is a part in the film where the FBI fires a rocket powered harpoon device into a boy-racer car. The harpoon thing has an "electronic disturbance" device in it and effectively shuts down the car. I thought this was pretty cool and then found out on the directors commentary that this device does not yet exist.

So my question is.... Does the sort of device anywhere in Dredd's world or another realm of sci-fi?

I remember in the Dredd story "The In Club" Dredd used a BULLET!! to stop a hi speed chase. Has he ever used anything more sophisticated??

Heya All.

Just came back from my monthly pilgrimage to the sydney comic stores and I found something INCREDIBLE!!

Everywhere I went the graphic novels have been reduced in price.

The reason? The Aussie dollar is doing so well against the US dollar so the stores are pricing accordingly.

The amazing thing is this almost never happens. Usually this difference is swallowed up in profit for the retailer.

And I'm not talking about a small reduction either.

Prices have been dropped by 25 - 40 %

Unbelievable!!

So all you Aussies with a graphic novel wants list flock to your nearest comic store.

Me? I'm finally going to try and complete my lone wolf and cub set, I think.

Help! / Button Man
18 January, 2004, 09:07:36 PM
Heya,

Dug out some old progs and had a read through of Button Man Books 1 and 2 today. I went on to start reading Book 3 and realised that episode 1 is actually in prog 2001. To my dismay this is one issue i don't have.

I was wondering if anyone could email me some scans of this episode so i can get the whole story? Any help would be much appreciated!

General / It feels so nice...
07 January, 2004, 01:09:29 AM
Heya,
Has anyone ever noticed how nice progs 520-588 feel? Pre 520 they have that rough newspaper feel and then after 588 they go glossy which feels cold to the touch.

However 520-588 seem to be mad of a different sort of paper. It feels soft, powdery and warm.

Go on and have a feel!!

General / Letterers
03 January, 2004, 11:36:47 PM
Heya,

I was just wondering about the role of Letterer (is that the right word??) and what makes a good letterer.

Is it someone who can right neatly in a proprotioned space or is the more?

What separates a good letterer from a bad one? I mean each letterer usually has no distinctive style unlike an artist or writer.

How does one even become a letterer? do they send a nice handwritten cv?

As most comic lettering seeming to look the same surely letterers could be replaced by a pc, why has this not happened?

can anyone help my confusion??

Heya Guys!!

I'mmmm baaaaack!!

6 weeks, 1 motherboard, and $300 later I'm back on the net and back with ya!

Now I have to begin the arduous task of retrieving all my files and reinstalling all my programs.

Seems like a lot of work and money for a PC i only use for tooth, ebay and porn. What can i say....I love porn!

I also want to thank Wake for the package of comics I received a while back. Wake you are a true professional! great price, great service and the package got to oz in 4 days. I don't think it could have arrived quicker if I'd flown over myself and picked it up.

Many thanks!

General / U.S and the Tooth.
14 September, 2003, 07:28:46 PM
I was just wondering why it is the Tooth cannot stand alone as is and be accepted in the states?

Many moons ago there was the eagle/quality/fleetway reprints.

Then there was the (crap)DC Dredd stuff.

And now we have 2000ad showcase due to be released!

What is it about 2000Ad that the Americans cannot accept?

Is it the anthology format?

Is it the size of The Mighty Ones Organ? All the reprints and the DC versions have been weeny us sized.

What is it?

This is driving me nuts. I just don't understand how one format (the origanl one) can do poorly but a rehash does alright!

Please explain....

Anyone...

Help! / cross-overs.
14 September, 2003, 06:38:15 PM
Heya Guys,

Just wondering...

Does anyone know how many times there has been a crossover story? You know where one or more parts have been in 2000AD and the the other parts have been in another publication?

Cheers

General / 1322!
26 August, 2003, 10:36:16 PM
Heya Guys!!

Here's a little story.

Once upon a time there was a young (and handsome) man who collected 2000ad. Now this dashing chap was fortunate because his local newsagent was most honourable and stocked the holy comic.

However one day our hero had to move which meant he was now miles and (friggin) miles away from the afore mention thrill merchant.

He searched high and low. he searched over hill and underhill until he found a most hourable merchant who was willing to handle the holiest of holys.

But Lo! There was a problem! It had taken our poor hero months to locate a new merchant and in that time his collection had developed big distressing holes.

So began the 2nd crusade. To find the missing progs. 9 moons later the quest is complete he doth find and aquire prog 1322.

The next crusde begins, to absorbe 10 moons worth of progs.
