Mean Arena – so bad it killed the Extreme Edition.

I keep seeing this repeated as if it's a fact, and it's complete hogwash. The only thing that brought the Extreme Editions to an end was the editorial decision to fold it into the Megazine. The bagged mini-trades have, by and large, continued the EEs' remit of reprinting material too short or unlikely to get a book collection.

In any case, the last two EEs reprinted classic Robo-Hunter, but Sam Slade doesn't seem to have the same accusation thrown at him.

I like samplers. I thought Matt Smith's Nemesis floppy was great, but must have been a shit-ton of work. I'm not that excited about the encyclopaedia, but, hey, it's new material and the mag still exists. I'll take it.

I'd have to check, but I think that was already written for the Hachette collections, so not much further work needed to be done (as somebody who owns both I'm not complaining).

Nope. It was written for an intended series of monographs that ended up not going ahead.

The thread states that the Rebellion years started at the beginning of 2000 but they didn't acquire the prog and the Meg till 1 July 2000. So Badlands doesn't qualify either.

I always thought Prog 1200 was effectively the first Rebellion issue as that's pretty much when Andy officially became editor.

Yes, he did. He's Captain Skellern, who was grabbed by the Martians when they first landed on Venus in part 6 of Cold War Book 1 back in Prog 1993. It's his body they've been using to create a new form.

As to the floppies...sigh...it had been stated countless times...including by Rebellion's own PR bot, that they don't add significantly to the cover price.

They're not printed out of fairy dust, Earthlet.

It kind of caps what has been quite a drop-off in service following the switch to the new distributor.

As I've already stated in the thread for Prog 2004, there is no new distributor. The subs copies are sent directly from the printers, and have been for the last 2-3 years. They're mailed out on the Thursday, to arrive Saturday. Sometimes problems at the printers can mean they leave a day late, and that can knock arrival past the weekend.

No change in policy, no change in method. I can only put the unfortunate recent lateness of your prog's delivery down to a localised Royal Mail issue.

I thought the intro might cast some light on this but it didn't, just spent 500 words describing the plot. Ridiculous.

Because I was 21 when Wilderlands was published, and not long out of college. I have no idea why Mick had to step in to draw an episode - strangely, editorial didn't deign to keep me up to speed on the Nerve Centre's inner workings six years before I worked there. But I imagine Mick drew the script he was given.

Twice now, since the new people took over, that I haven't received my prog on a Saturday. Coincidence? Maybe... 

There are no 'new people' with regards to subs. Subs copies are delivered direct from the printer, the same way they have done for the last 2-3 years - usually sent out Thursday for Saturday delivery. For some reason Prog 2005 went out on Friday so should arrive Monday.

I would have preferred it another way and I find it a little bit of a cynical way to ensure that people keep buying to the end.

I imagine even Tharg has to play the game to get Eaglemoss on board.

Or Hachette, even.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rejuve issue. I imagine it will never be referenced again, and other artists will continue to depict Dredd as an ageing, scarred monstrosity.

As Mike pointed out when he pitched the story, Chief Judge Goodman is shown leaving a rejuvenation clinic 'after his monthly treatment' in the first panel of the first page of The Day the Law Died. So there is certainly historical precedent for Judges of a certain age receiving this kind of rejuve.

The snow in the Sinister Dexter story 'Point Blanc' remains memorable in that it nearly sent Chris Blythe round the twist.

Note to artists: if you're doing a snow effect for someone else to colour, do it on a separate layer. Don't - as Andy Clarke did - draw every single individual snowflake.
