General / Mr Logan , can you or any one help me?
26 October, 2001, 06:31:35 PM
Does anyone know whether the alt 2000AD scriptdroid group displays the posts on a website like the alt 2000AD chat room?

I believe the posts are emailed to you directly instead.

Am I right?

Mr Logan, I guess you will know!

General / Weak arguments milo and mrcomicus

You criticise me cos i write only ideas here?
What, you want me to write the whole script in an evening?

In hollywood there is the term "pitch".

Where you give a very broad outline of a story.

That is all I have done.

To criticise me for not writing the whole script or even a synopsis is a very weak argument on your part.

How can you say there will not be any emotional connection with the citizens who are enslaved?
Maybe Dredd knows some of them.
Maybe one is a child who is in foster care.
Or a citizen Dredd saved from a perp not so long ago.
Or countless other reasons why you may care for the citizens.

You are clutching at very weak straws to attack me!

Ok Rebellion and everyone else.

I will put my money where my mouth is.

I will write a full 120 page formatted Judge Dredd screenplay and send it to Rebellion (assuming they will read it!). And maybe Shoreline Entertainment.

Not some silly future shock but a proper professional screenplay.

If Rebellion could suggest an idea for my screenplay, ie the premise, I don't mind.

Otherwise I will write a completely original script.

Everyone is welcome to read it.

Will take a few months to do but I will do it.

But you must judge it based on its own worth.

Not because scojo the hated one has written it.

So Rebellion, any suggestions?

Corruption?

Judge Death?

Or my own idea?

General / Adventures of Milo

I have a great idea for a 2000AD story.

Lets call it "Milo". The adventures of.

About a smug useless piece of talking turd who criticises others but doesn't have the intelligence, wit or imagination to offer anything creative himself.

I am sure you can write it Milo

After all, it is autobiographical...

I am leaving this board for good.

I don't need to come back here and be attacked personally by some idiot (Milo) just because I express my opinion.

So long.

General / I can prove it is a comic writers conspiracy!
25 October, 2001, 07:22:58 AM
Why is there only a small club of writers that work for 2000AD?

Strange that.

I mean we have Wagner and Grant, Abnett, Morrison and Rennie.
Plus sometimes Smith, S Moore and a few others occasionally.

But no new ones. Ever.

If you think I am being harsh consider this.

What do Steve Moore, Gordon Rennie and Robbie Morrison all have in common?
They are all in gainful employment at 2000AD and yet have all written unsuccessful strips.
Don't believe me?

Rennie's Witchworld: cancelled after one series.
Moore's Fed Fang: cancelled after one series.
Morrison's Vanguard: (apparently) cancelled after one series.

Yet they remain employed.

Also Mike Carrey writes Carver Hale. Unlikey to return although the ending was left to be continued.
And he is writng a new story called 13.

It proves that once you are in the club you are set up for life.

Shame 2000AD does not try new writers.
But I guess if you got writers who have proved unsuccessful (see above) you don't need new talent!

General / My Dredd screenplay
24 October, 2001, 07:21:23 PM
I would start the movie set in contemporary New York.
Show crimes there and show the police department's inability to curb the crime rate.

Then we morph into the future maybe with an image of a mushroom cloud in the background representing the atomic wars.

Pan out from New York onto the Mega City 1 itself.
Then maybe to Rowdy Yates Block.
To inside Dredd's apartment getting dressed in his uniform. Then out to bike bay and onto streets.

Show signs saying no littering, no stopping, no spitting, no robot dogs without muzzles etc. This should show the absurdity of the world we are in.

We begin with an absurdist crime ideally. Maybe fatties doing a bank heist on surfing boards! That could be hilarious!

Then the actual plot begins. If corruption and Death are to be done in the first two movies then I like the idea of a criminal who finds a flaw in the justice Dept cloning programme and manages to corrupt it. All cloned Judges are susceptible to some sort of manipulation or disease.
Dredd has to track down the bad guy before his very own DNA is destroyed.

So anyone like my idea?

I have been thinking.

Has anyone got the Judge Dredd Playstation game?

I ask because that game had various live action sequences in between levels. I thought it captured the spirit of Dredd better than the movie.

In fact I was impressed enough to record all the sequences on to video tape in their correct order.

The storyline is suspect but Dredd and the world look impressive (for a small budget).

So maybe if the film makers use extensive use of green screen technology where you film on a blank green screen and then digitally composite the backgrounds on after, the film could work.

Hey folks,

I think Rebellion's website is being renovated by bob the builder.

I went to it and it says under construction.

General / The Problem with Judge Dredd 2 and 3 movies
24 October, 2001, 03:13:07 AM
I think we have a slight ironic thing going on here.

Hooray, we are going to have 2 Dredd films that stick faithfully to the character and yet the budget is likely to be for non theatrical release.

Unless Mark 13 can tell me I am wrong.

So we are going to get a cut price Mega City One.

I bet the sad truth is this.

Rebellion were offered an offer they couldn't refuse and were paid handsomely. They don't really care whether Mega City 1 will look naff.

Despite their insistence that they will have editorial control, we are talking about JUGDE DREDD here. MEGA CITY 1!

How can you possibly do the character and his world justice with a company that only makes small budget movies?

I feel it is important that I bring some perspective to this!

Mark 13, what are the film's estimated budgets and are they for cinema release?

I think we are entitled to know.

Does anyone find Sinister Dexter amusing anymore?

The new one this week, it was crap.

I know it was supposed to be ironic with the door man thinking they are nice guys but it was awful!

I think Dan Abnett is so overrated.

I've seen more irony in Popeye's spinach.

Uck Uck Uck!

General / deja vu i am seeing two!
23 October, 2001, 07:53:17 PM
Yep as was said before:

Killer is the film Gladiator meets Blackhawk.

Blacky was an ancient Roman gladiator plucked from the arena by some nasty aliens for their amusement!

It was printed in 1980 with art by Belardinelli.

Do we really want this story again in the comic?

I don't think so.

We want new characters, not old ones!!

Steve Moore you are plagerising another story! Or idea anyway.

And people say this is a golden age for 2k?

General / Oh I do like to be by the shoreline....
23 October, 2001, 07:37:43 PM
It seems Matt, that some of these films by Shoreline Entertainment were shown on only about 150 cinemas when released.

So unless they are going to get major studio backing by Disney who I believe own the film rights, Dredd is not going to be a big budget cinema release.

Maybe it will be fun to see it done on tiny budget.
Mega City 1?
More like Minor Village Green 1!

Hee hee!

I am suspicious of the new Dredd movie deal.

I think it is best to wait for Rebellion to tell us officially.

Also are the films going to be live action cinema releases or low budget made for television?

I ask because the poor box office return of the original Dredd movie would surely question any film company's interest in funding a new movie.

In Hollywood the buck is god you see!

I hope I am wrong and that we do see a proper Dredd film.
Ideally with Wagner writing the original draft.
