General / 2000AD in the USA. A question.
19 November, 2016, 06:34:30 AM
It was an absolute shock when I saw 3 copies of prog 1991 racked with the video game magazines at my local Books-a-million. I was even more shocked when I saw it's list price of $6.99. It's only about $5 per prog through Diamond in the monthly packs. I did get a chance to pick up prog 2000 early for $8.99.

Now my question.  I order the monthly prog packs every month through DCBService.com, the get their comics through Diamond. One month they offered the September pack & the next they offered the November pack. Did Rebellion not offer an October pack? Does Rebellion even name their packs, or is that something Diamond does.

September has Prog 2000, December lists Progs 2010 & 2011. I assume November will have 2005 - 2009. I'm wondering where the missing Progs fit in.

Being an American, all I understand is Diamond Distribution, local comic shops, and recently comixology. I'm very curious as to how comics are published and distributed in other countries.

What are the current way British comics are distributed, their sales in relation to one another, what titles are published, are most weekly, monthly, ect... Are Viz & Beano still being published? Are collections big?

General / Damage Report
05 July, 2014, 01:20:42 PM
Every time I get my bundle of 2000AD over here in the US. The first thing I read isn't Judge Dredd, it's the Damage Report. I love reading about the woes of the editorial droids.

I agree with Cyber-Matt, there was something off about Hunger Games: Catching Fire that I couldn't put my finger on.

General / Jaeger returns in June.
04 July, 2014, 06:05:18 PM
I'm an american who gets his thrill power through DCBS, so I've only recently gotten the April prog pack. At the end of Jaeger it says that it'll be back in june. Well, It's July & Jaeger isn't back yet. Is there a new date set for it's return?

General / Brass Sun mini-series
08 March, 2014, 03:49:30 PM
While ordering comics online at DCBService.com I noticed that Rebellion was publishing Brass Sun as a 6 issue limited series at $3.99 an issue.

Did I miss this announcement? Or is this a surprise to most everyone?

BRASS SUN #1 (OF 6)

(W) Ian Edginton (A/CA) I. N. J. Culbard The Orrery is a clockwork solar system where planets whirl on vast metal arms and the sun of cogs is worshpped as a god. But the sun is dying, the planets are freezing one by one, and cults burn as heretics those who warn of the danger. To save her home, young Wren knows she must first escape it and find the key to restart the sun. An incredible new SF-clockpunk series from the bestselling artist of New Deadwardians and the writer of Scarlet Traces.

General / Hamlyn's 2000AD graphic novels.
18 October, 2013, 03:23:08 PM
I just got Hamlyn's Judge Anderson: Satan from amazon & I must say I was surprised how poor it was. It wasn't printed on gloss paper the way Fleetway's & Rebellion's graphic novels are. The other thing that caught my eye was how poor the design of the cover was. the generic "2000AD" logo where Marvel & DC put their logos. The written & illustrated by credits in the yellow block. Yuck!  The "Judge Anderson" logo (instead of "Anderson Psi Division") is poor as is the inclusion of Judge Dredd's logo on the back cover.

How long did Hamlyn have the publishing rights to 2000AD graphic novels?

General / Why do good strips die?
11 October, 2013, 02:07:37 AM
I'm thinking mostly about Dredd related strips in the Megazine because I just finished reading Hondo City Law & will start Low Life:Paranoia soon.

Low Life & the Simping Detective have returned in the last year & I wonder why they went away in the first place. Did the writers move on? If so, why not replace the writer if the strip is popular. Dreddverse characters are only young for so long. DeMarco is in her forties now, so isn't Judge Inspector Inaba. You'd think there would be some young writers & artists, who grew up with these characters, who would want to work on them.

Books & Comics / Hey American Readers!
31 August, 2013, 05:16:08 PM
I was wondering if anyone's seen Trifecta or the second Day of Chaos trade in any stores? I've ordered them through DCBS, but they haven't received them yet. I was wondering if this was a DCBS thing or a Diamond thing.

What's the general consensus on Judge Anderson, both Character & Strip? Do you think Alan Grant his handling her well?

To this American reader Anderson is as much of the world of Mega-City 1 as Dredd is. She (& Judge Death) first appeared in Eagle's Judge Dredd #1 & returned in issue #3. She was the Star of 2000Ad Monthly here in America & befriended Batman in Judgement on Gotham. She seems like an integral part of the life of Judge Dredd.

Except she isn't.

She's a fairly minor player in Dredd's history if you look at all the Progs & the Meg. Her stories don't seem to effect life in MC1 in the Dredd strip the way his do her stories. The story Crusade should have at least as much impact as Robot Wars had, but 15 million children leaving MC1 doesn't seem to matter when it happens in Anderson's strip.

Does Rebellion own all of IPC's old comics? Could they reprint strips from Lion & Eagle? What about Starlord? Can they reprint the old 2000 AD Dan Dare strips?

Some of it would make for a good floppie for the MEG.

General / Mega-City 1 after Day of Chaos.
27 July, 2013, 02:40:36 PM
Has there been lots of attention given to the amazing loss of life during DoC? 7 our of 8 people died, that should change the way of day to day life in the big meg. Does it bring marshal law or does it open the door for more democracy?

For the past 9 months, even sense I saw Dredd 3D, I've been addicted to Dredd comics. Not only can't I stop, I've moved to other 2000 AD titles & now I've pre-ordered 3 months worth of both 2000 AD & the Megazine.

I've managed to collect & read 14 of the 19 case files, the 4 restricted files, Brothers in Blood, the Pitt, America, Origin, Death Lives, The Life & Death of..., Both Tour of Duty trades, & the first Day of Chaos trade, All 3 Psi files, Shamballa,  & the Psychic Crime Files.  Now It's seeped in to 4 Slaine trades, 2 Nikolai Dante trades, Zombo, Tales of Nu Earth 1, & the Search/Destroy Agency Files 1 & 2. I should be getting the 2 Defoe trades any day now.

My question isn't how do I stop, it's how do I get Rebellion to send more of their titles to America? I need the next 10 trades of Nikolai Dante like a junkie needs his sinthcaf fix. Amazon.co.UK is no help. Neither is the 2000 AD shop, they want $260 to send 8 trades to the US.

Please Tharg, forgive your rebellious colony & send us more thrill power, STAT!  I'd even take an ACE Trucking book.

I've finally decided to order both the Meg & 2000AD from a comics service here in the US. It's going to cost $5.25 per prog & $12.25 for the Meg. There is a 25% discount for preordering. $3.94 & $9.19 US.

I was wondering how much a $2.99 DC or a $3.99 Marvel costs in the UK, Ireland, Australia, & other countries.

General / FCBD Progs
09 June, 2013, 05:17:53 PM
Rebellion should post free downloads of the Free Comic Book Day progs. They weren't easy to find in the U.S.

I think it's time Rebellion reprinted all the trades, or make a cool omnibus.

General / Megazine question.
17 May, 2013, 03:22:45 PM
Is there a list of upcoming reprints & what issue of the Megazine they'll be included with? I hate that the meg is $11 when I really only want to read the Dredd strips. Knowing the reprint would soften the blow.

General / Dredd collections question
14 May, 2013, 01:15:31 AM
I'm an American who's been picking up Dredd collections for about a year & I've noticed that the newer trades jump around quite a bit. (Origin, Tour of Duty, Day of Chaos) Do the stories that are left out get reprinted?
