Hi all,

I just received Warlord Games' Block War expansion and new miniatures packs for the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game. I've recorded an unboxing video for anyone interested, covering the Block War expansion itself and all the new miniatures packs - Justice Department Riot Central, Fatties At War and Mega-City Resident Mob. Enjoy!

Games / Judge Dredd Boardgame Playthrough
14 October, 2022, 06:43:58 PM
With Rebellion Unplugged releasing an updated version of Ian Livingstone's classic Judge Dredd Boardgame very soon, I thought some of you here might like to see how much fun the original was as we recorded ourselves playing a full game!

I've conducted a number of interviews now with game creators Andy Chambers and Gav Thorpe talking about the creation of their line of 2000AD games. For anyone who is interested in the process of game design, the guys really give you a great insight into that process - and their love of the source material. I've set these out in the order that they were recorded (the first two are from a year or so back):

Games / Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter Gaming Videos
30 April, 2022, 02:47:16 PM
I'll be doing a series of videos over the coming months for Osprey Games' Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter game. In this first video, I'm using the Dark Judges expansion set to play solo and have a classic Judges v Dark Judges battle! I wouldn't go so far as to call this a tutorial video because there's some rules that are not covered, but I have tried to explain the general rules as best as I can to give anyone who's been considering picking up the game an idea of how it works.

Anyway, enough rambling, here's the video!

Games / Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Youtube Series
29 January, 2022, 05:20:58 PM
Hi all,

Later on this year, I plan on making a series of videos showcasing the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game in action. I'd want to tailor this best deliver what the community here would find most interesting to watch, so it would be great to get your thoughts on which of the 4 formats I'm currently chewing over you think you'd enjoy watching most:

1. "Real Play" video - i.e. film the whole game using hand held or tripod mounted cameras with a god's eye view of the action, including a camera on the dice tray, uploading it with minimal editing. This version would be the most game-focussed of the formats I'm considering.

2. "Narrative Gameplay" video - following the Strontium Dog series template as already established on my channel where the action is photographed and captions and speech bubbles are added to the photographs to give that feel of the strip. In addition, there would be references to the mission objectives, characters involved as well as including pics of the dice rolls, basically so as to provide some context to what is happening with the game mechanics as well. In other words, roughly 50% narrative, 50% about the game.

For anyone who's unfamiliar, here's an episode of the SD series with Middenface in action: https://youtu.be/-h5FS13_5ks

3. "Narrative Only" video - much the same as "Narrative Gameplay" video, except all of the references to the game, including pics of dice rolls etc, are removed and it is presented simply as a story, much as it would be in the prog (with the miniatures pics doing the job of the art).

4. "Immersive Narrative" video -  Exactly the same as the "Narrative only" video (no game references) except there is a narrator reading out the captions and voice actors playing the different characters and some sound effects added for gunshots, vehicles etc. This would be the most challenging and time consuming way to do it and I'd need to find members of the community willing to spend say 30 mins a month recording their dialogue on Discord. My youtube channel is not monetised so I'd be looking for people like myself who would be up for it simply for the love of Dredd and 2000AD. This is some months away from me getting to work on this, so I don't want anyone to be disappointed if they thought this was something that they could get involved with in the next 2 or 3 months, I'd expect it to be after that.

So, which would be of most interest to you? You can either pick one from format 1, 2, 3 or 4, or if you would like to rank them in order of preference from most to least preferred, that would be even more helpful! Thanks all!

Games / Cursed Earth Card Game by Osprey - House Rules?
20 November, 2021, 10:46:17 AM
I know this game has been out for a long time but I just picked up a copy...

I'm really impressed with the production values, particularly in respect of Dan Cornwell and Rufus Dayglo's artwork. As for the game itself, I like the system but, echoing some of the comments on long-dead threads I spotted elsewhere here, I found it punishingly difficult!

I have spotted a youtube video which shows that it can be done, but I was wondering how often fellow players managed a win? It seems so hard that I've been considering giving Dredd an extra 2 health, Giant 1 and Anderson a free Psi get out of jail card, maybe even adding an extra ration or bullet to the starting pool.

The other house rule I'm already considering (as a result of being a keen tabletop gamer) is introducing some dice rolling, likely using Warlord's dice from the Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd games. I haven't quite thought that one through yet, but I would apply it to any fight situation that arises in the card game.

So, 2 questions:

Has anyone else created their own house rules?

Has anyone completed the game without tweaking it and, if so, does it happen often? (I'm assuming not!)

Games / Judge Dredd Miniatures Game Videos

I recently commissioned good friend Simon Fearn to paint up my collection of Judge Dredd miniatures from the tabletop game by Warlord Games. Well, I received my parcel for the first half of the commission the other day and have finally gotten around to photographing it all! I hope you are as bowled over by his work as I am!

Games / Strontium Dog: The Killing 2188
05 September, 2021, 12:44:14 PM
Hi all,

My good friend Allan Stenhouse is currently running a tabletop campaign using Warlord Games' Strontium Dog Miniatures Game and he is recording game reports to create an alternative dimension version of possibly the greatest S/D tale, The Killing. The reports do include aspects of the game mechanics, but I think it is his love for the source material and narrative that really shines through! I've converted his reports into a series of videos, but for those of you who prefer to read at your own pace, they are also available on my blog so I'm sharing links for both formats. The Prologue sets out the background to the story and shows you all 100 participants, all of whom will feature and fight until only 1 is left standing! From there onwards, it's action all the way...

So far 11 battles have been fought - and we're not yet half way through the campaign! So strap yourselves in because Allan's taking us on an epic journey...

Hi all,

I'm a bit late to the party, but for anyone who's been thinking about taking the plunge into the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game, I made an unboxing video which may be of interest!

Please let me know in the comments if you'd like to see/hear more in the way of Strontium Dog and/or Judge Dredd game videos and podcasts and I'll try to create more content which is best targeted to the community here!

Feedback on all podcasts and videos are always welcomed as I know there's always room for improvement!

Hi all!

In this first of two very special episodes of the Life of Die Podcast I've been lucky enough to be joined by none other than Andy Chambers himself to discuss the Strontium Dog Miniatures Game and the Judge Dredd Miniatures Game!

This first podcast takes us through Andy's journey as lead designer in creating the system which was the template for both games and, in my honest opinion, makes for a fascinating listen for anyone interested in either of those, or indeed anyone who wants to know more about the development process of a tabletop gaming system.

If you enjoy listening to this half as much as I did asking the questions, you're in for a treat!

P.S. There's a juicy piece of news in there too...

Hi all!

Since the Strontium Dog Miniatures Game is available from the 2000AD shop, I thought that this might be a good place to leave a whole host of articles that I've put together relating to the game. I've analysed just about every aspect of gameplay, so whatever you want to know, there should be something here to help you! I've also added some home-brew rules in some of the tactics articles to add even more flavour from the source material! All of these articles are fan-made, not-for-profit and fully ad-free! Enjoy!

Hi all,

I've been a long-time 2000AD and gaming fan and have been loving Warlord Games' Strontium Dog Miniatures Game since its release last year! I thought I'd share some of the links to my picture heavy but ad-free battle reports which show the game and miniatures in action as well as doubling as a fan-fiction story. The six links here set out the full story/campaign. Note that video versions exist for the first two parts and links to those also provided. I hope fellow S/D fanatics approve!

Feedback is very much welcomed!

Books & Comics / Old school paper v Digital comics
27 March, 2014, 12:09:20 AM
I'm sorry because I'm sure this subject has probably been discussed before but I couldn't find it anywhere when I tirelessly searched the first page of active topics...

I downloaded 2000AD's freebie comic for the iPad from the webstore and have to say I was very impressed.  The images were so crisp and clear and the colour was fantastic!

One problem is that I like owning things and I have trouble with this whole new fangled culture of streaming films, downloading music and now potentially comics.  I worry that if I don't have something I can feel and touch that I will forget it is there and not use it!  Much to the amusement of my teenage nephew I still buy CDs and DVDs but I'm proud of my collections and that goes for my graphic novels which are all nicely displayed in a cabinet.

The other thing is that I do like the feel and smell of paper.  I don't know if that is weird...

How does everyone else feel about this?  Is there anyone that had gone for a completely digital library?

General / 2000AD Graphic Novels Questions
22 February, 2014, 11:45:03 AM
I've been absent from the forum for a little while now so haven't been keeping up to date with news.  I was wondering if someone could help me out with a few queries:

1) ABC Warriors Mek Files 1: I had been thinking of trying to pick up all of the old ABC Warriors graphic novels but then spotted this.  I'm assuming that this is going to be the first of an ABC Warriors equivalent to JD's. Complete Case Files, am I right to do so?

2) Judge Dredd Day of Chaos Fallout: Is it the case that Rebellion are going to reprint all current JD stories in these type of graphic novels?  While I know it has nothing to do with the Complete Case Files, are these graphic novels essentially the same thing so people can read them instead of waiting a decade or so for the Case Files to catch up?

3) Slaine Lord of the Beasts: I've got Slaine graphic novels 1 - 8 (Warrior's Dawn to The Grail War).  Is this the next in the series or have I missed any?

General / Marvel?! MARVEL?!!!!

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but the link below represents the first release date I've seen quoted for Case Files 20; 20th June 2013.

Assuming this is correct - and it may not be as Amazon says the publisher is Ravenstone rather than Rebellion - this will have been over a year since the release of volume 19.  Is there any chance the frequency of these titles can be increased? I want to give you my money!!!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Judge-Dredd-Complete-Case-Files/dp/1781081417/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353942983&sr=8-1
