I thought one of the main ways that George Lucas was able to achieve his independence from the studio system and continue with the Star Wars brand was that he held on to so many of the rights from the original film (such as toy rights).

Toys have therefore been inextricably linked with Star Wars from the very beginning. I had Star Wars figures before I had even seen any of the movies.

It also helped that Star Wars had so many classic designs that could be made in to figures or vehicles.

I don't like Nicolai Dante either but the piece by Steven Denton is really good. It has a touch of the Joe Kubert in there.

No comment on the Pete Wells one.

I was just having a lunchtime forty winks when a robin flew into my cabin, crapped on my Mega Collection then flew out again. Little swine.

If there is any justice it will be the one with Sleeze N Ryder in it.

The latest subscriber's edition of Empire magazine has a nice black and white Spidey cover by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer (with the Empire title in red).

Anyone getting or reading these archive editions? I saw volume 3 in an issue of previews with art by John Stokes, Jim Baikie and Ron Turner. Hefty price tag though at $49.99.

I've heard they don't stick to Star Trek continuity which is fine with me but just wondering if anyone has seen these and thinks they are worth getting?

I remember going on holiday and reading Five on a Treasure Island by Enid Blyton. Worth a read if you haven't already. you could then move on to an Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators classic. You don't really need to read them in order.

Five go to Smuggler's Top was my favourite Famous Five book.

Though thinking about it - is Treasure Island the first Five book?  And Smuggler's Top is quite early in the run anyway.

Treasure Island is the first one. I think Smugglers Top was about fourth or fifth. I read them so much when I was a kid but I can remember so little about them now. You could read them in a day.

Someone might have pointed this out before but I was reading the Wally Squad story from 1984 (Wagner/Grant/Ewins) in the Mega Collection recently and noticed that the two undercover Judges surnames are Pino and Shea.

I don't know whether this is some play on Pinochet, the former ruler of Chile, or just a coincidence.

A pity we never saw more Davis Dredd. He's definitely in my top 3 comic artists although in my opinion his best work was produced outside of 2000AD. There are a few podcasts about where he is interviewed and the Batman/Dredd crossover comes up. 

I didn't get despatch email but I got the book and print today. Better that than the other way round I suppose.

Its a nice book, thicker than I thought it would be. There will be about half of it I haven't read before and it will look well on the shelf when I've finished reading it.

I don't think the 'homage' goes past the name. I couldn't tell there being any other similarity between Judge Bruce and Lenny Bruce.

The name Bruce is associated to Australia, which is probably how the original writers gave the character that name, but even then its more as a forename.

Actually if you read the interview PDF's that are linked to the article he says he did work on Perry Rhodan.

I also found a couple of comic strip pages online which look like they may be Belardinelli (mainly the hairstyles). I can't speak German though and I don't know if these are Perry Rhodan strips.

There is a link to Belardinelli through Cambiotti but that article does not make it clear that Belardinelli worked on the strip himself. I'm not aware of any other link myself.

A few years ago a blog printed pages from a 1960's Perry Rhodan comic but it managed to do so without printing any pages from the strip itself. There were just stills from movie that was out at the time.

Finished the single player of Sniper Elite 4. Its a good game and worth a few hours of your time but I don't feel it offered a big enough improvement on or development from Sniper Elites 2 or 3. As the game went on it just became very repetitive.

I just know there is a certain forum member waiting to tell me that the name Sniper Elite 4 should have given me a clue that it would be similar to Sniper Elite 2 and Sniper Elite 3.

It could have been Ted McKeever. The other two I was thinking of were Jon J Muth or Kent Williams who had illustrated the Havok and Wolverine Meltdown series for Epic (albeit a few years earlier).
