hey
as i mentioned earlier, i've started collecting 2000ad again after a 4 year dry spell.
originally i was able to stroll down into my town (not small, about 25,000 people, and a lot of newsagents!) and pick up a copy of 2000ad, the megazine, the best of, classic 2000ad, whatever i wanted. they had.
now, 4 years later,  i strolled down to check out the latest thrills, and there was nothing. not a single newsagent had a copy of anything. wtf?! was i alone keeping all those shops stocked? lol i doubt it very much. odd stuff indeed. in the end i had to pick up a copy while in Dublin. which, i can thankfully say, had plenty of shops stocking it. so whats gone wrong with my town? a sad day indeed.

I have the exact same problem, ( As I have mentioned many times before.) though my plight doesn't seem quite as severe as yours. Ity used to be more abundant , now it's now non existant where I live.

I can still the find the magazine, but well over few half a days walking distance and then there is chance that even those places won't always stock them.

That's why I ask them put one aside for me each week.

By the way, where do you live?

Welcome to the new century.

I think the logic goes like this:

- get everyone to subscribe
- comic no longer in shops
- no new readers ever happen upon it
- comic dies out

You stopped buying 2000ad 4 years ago... now your local shops don't sell it any more...

YOUR FAULT!!

;)

LOL !
STRIKE !!!

oh, i live in ireland. just beside dublin..so there shouldnt be any problem!

i would subscribe, but i'm a broke art student. you think i have that kinda money?! :D

DavidXBrunt

The monthly sub doesn't cost you any more than buying weekly, it just goes out in one dose.

Carlsborg Expert

subscribe and get a T-shirt to boot!

Ordinary local newsagents in Dublinmore or less stopped stocking it about 10 years ago. Only specialty newsagents & comic shops stock it now. It was a sad day when I noticed it first.

a newsagent told me, last year, 2000ad has stopped, they just do the megazine now

the only solution i can see is tharg giving a bunch of unsold copies to schools to kick off more readers eh

I suppose that now theres only 2 magazines it's showing to some as less of a 'brand'.

I guess it's hard to get new people interested when it's ?1.75 an issue. As has been mentioned when 2000ad started it was less than the price of a mars bar!
Not something that can be easily addressed.
I think the growth in GN's is one of the best things that can be done to help foster interest. So it's nice to see them in places like Borders.

Spot on fate...

The main problem I have with subscription is that it takes some of the fun out of each issue.

Honestly, all you subscribers, how much more satisfying was it to read the latest prog after you'd done the hunter gatherer thing to track it down, or is that just me?

I simply dont trust posties in OZ, they'll steal my much needed Thrill Power.  Plus what if its raining, my proggy gets wet if I'n not at home to take it straight out of the letter box.

Local shop down the road stopped getting it in, I think it has something to do with me being the only person who got it, before disappearing for months on end due to my living in Lahndan. Now I have to go to Smiths in MK.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Krust, you could always try getting a standing order with your local newsie, you could clip the coupon out of (Just picking an old prog at random...) say, Prog 72 :)
