On the same subject, does anyone know anything about a B+W, head shot of Kano print , a bit bigger than A3, signed by Brett ?

I have one, looks like it was removed from a frame as its heavily trimmed....

Are we really all so upset about the brand name?! Ugh. It must suck to be so eaily offended.

I'm going to pick up one of these decks for sure. I've been skateboarding a lot again since last summer.

Agreed !
Jeeze, some people....

Used properly, you'd prob grind off the logo in the first week, anyhow.

Well done 2K for getting product out in a new, very lifestyle/ fashion based industry.

General / Re: Reading 2000AD on an iPad Mini?

I use an ipad mini, you can pinch zoom ok if needed, and the quality of the page is awesome.

Ive also noticed a wierd thing that happens where you can select text and it trys to read it out to you in a super fast robot voice.
Dont know what the hell that option is for-  cant adjust it,some sort of a reader thing- but it gave me a full five mins of extra entertainment.

I was lucky enough to be invited to watch the UK premier for the first ever episode completed of this new series (it was out of sync with the series).
I will admit I went in there with a bit of 'ok this'll be a bit of a dissapointment' but I thought the episode I saw was f'ing brilliant.

Mine shafts, Giant robots, radiation levels, everything you'd expect in a Thunderbirds episode was all there.
The characters quickly gel with the live action work, and very well too. I saw this at the BFi so a huge screen - hopefully it'll still looks as great on home tv.

Its been green lit for a second series already I believe.
The music is great - the final scene had some really classic Bond vibe - lots of orchestral stuff.

This trailer is a little too busy for my tastes- but if you like a bit of what you see, the rest is even better.

My subscription was a 'work related gift' shall we say, so I'll drop my contacts a line ....

I left Facebook during December as its normally a depressing, moany place with too many egos and cat videos screaming for attention.
I just drop in now and then now, just to see what calamity the internet is facing ;-)

For my sins I actually never knew they did follow ups to America, so having them in the Volume was a surprise to me and  very welcome one - if anything I seemed to enjoy America more reading the follow ups because it gave the story a nice grounding.
Although the original chapter of America was a nice piece on its own I probably didnt read as much in to it as I could have done, taking it at face value as a nice story out of the traitional context of a Judges saga.
The comments Butch posted above are very valid ( we'll pass over the rape scene...) but I felt the additional storylines give the female characters all their power back, and you can almost see that in the way Dredd behaves as he admits his respect to Bennys' daughter.

I am seriously excited to get the next volumes...

Film Discussion / Re: Dredd (2012)

Actually, come to think of it-

I wonder when the rights IMG/ DNA own to DREDD would run out ?

Maybe they'll try to keep the rights in the same way the Fantastic Four movie rights were.....

No ad campaign budget could generate anything like the 'following' Dredd has now built ( for good or bad).

The format DNA films worked with was distant from the comic visual but was a stroke of genius in building a world that was achievable in pretty much all potential budgets.

The bottom line of the film was it lost money in the short term return, but with an establishd fanbase you'd think it'd be a more bankable market with less risk than backing a new film project with no track record whatsover.
Hopefully they'd have seen DREDD as a loss leader ?

But hey, we got two films in our lifetime, thats good.

Film & TV / Re: Terminator Genisys (2015)

I really try not to pre-judge films, but this just sounds like it's going to be a bit of a car crash doesn't it? And I don't even think the leaked story twist (
that in the new timeline Sarah Connor was raised by a Terminator, who she calls 'Pops', sent from the future to protect her
) is that terrible an idea. The EW photoshoot stills look laughably bad though - like a something out of a low budget TV movie.

The thing about Terminator is that it's an inherently goofy concept, elevated due to the considerable storytelling talent of James Cameron in his prime. Take him out of the equation and what have you got?
Interesting- where did you read this ?
I heard Arnie was in it this time round because his character was the human who's DNA was used to grow the human skin around the original Terminator, and so has aged accordingly etc etc
The bootleg version of the Punisher is the only one that makes sense though. The rest treat him like a superhero... Garth Ennis got it right. He's a serial killer.

I don't see him as a prick, as long as he wants to keep making these things for free I'm perfectly happy. I don't think his stuff pisses off the property owners either, he's not making money off them. I also don't see a 'fuck you' to Rebellion anywhere in there.

You miss the fact posted and discussed earlier in the thread then that said things arent just revolving around a money issue here- its keeping artistic control over a character that, as with Stallone, if it isnt overseen and policed, can put the character back at least a decade if he's seen in something rubbish...

I don't know if it's a hard and fast rule as that - just to go in with both eyes open and know what you're getting yourself into.

I think a lot of it depends on how collaborative it is, and the balance of how much work is being done by the various parties, and how wealthy they are.

We certainly had people giving their time for free on Minty, but hopefully no-one begrudged us that, and we're not exactly driving around in solid-gold Rollers.

On my first job as a sole trader I worked on a shoot alongside an established SFX company.
Words of wisdom I was given by the company owner hold true- Never undercharge because as soon as you put your prices back up they'll go elsewhere, and if they dont talk money, they haven't got it.

I dont think anyone worked on Minty for exposure- more for the genuine pleasure of being a part of something they had a desire to see completed.
It wasn't created by personal desires for self promotion or gaining soundbites either....

It does seem like the wrong person is taking the credit for a huge amount of work, of which it would appear they had little hand in, and for reasons that dont really add up.

I don't feel that just because something is fan-made* it's beyond criticism, but certainly, I'll weigh my criticism against the abilities of whoever is producing it. (but then I'm not someone who generally throws around the disclaimer "it's shit!" so maybe you're not really addressing me here.)

(*on that point, as I've stated already, I don't consider this fan-made. It's made by professionals in a semi-professional manner, the only difference is this hasn't had any sort of ok from the copyright holders. Bootleg is right)

In fact, I don't think I've expressed any opinion at all on the quality of the product, rather I've suggested that what they've done is endangered future work and products that 2000AD could be putting out there.

Can this be made a sticky for the thread ?

Well Bootleg is described as :

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bootleg

so at least its being honest.

Knowing how hard the Steve's worked on Minty to stay within Rebellions wishes I do wonder what Rebellion honestly think of this steamrolling in .

It looks mmm- 'OK' to me- certainly I will watch it - at least to see for starters.

Liking Deaths voice anyway.

And try seeing how many artists actually do draw a Bolland-ish Death side on and make him look half decent ;-)

But yeh- certain things could - and should- have been handled a llot better by someone who really should know better.....
