Help! / Sleeping in Bristol
09 May, 2003, 10:17:56 PM
Can anyone recommend a good B&B in Bristol over the weekend after next? Just need one night on the Friday so that I can go and get slaughtered while my better half gets to watch Friends in peace!

Noticed how many people posting on the latest round of the Best Cover thread were complaining about the piss-poor quality of progs from 801 to 850, and saying how it won't be long before the quality improves.

But what the hell is going on with the covers of the Meg?! It's not that they're really crap, but they seem to be completely lacking in any kind of 'oompff', they just don't grab ya. With the insides so good, what's happened to the exterior?!?

Phew, wanted to get that off my chest. Thanks

General / Where it all beginsssss

Was slightly disturbed while listening to Mark 'n' Lard's show on Radio1. They were doing their version of - what I remember as - Nicky Campbell's Teasyingly Topical Triple Tracker. Anyway, one of the stories was about this bloke who's living in a graveyard and has been there so long the authorities can't be bothered to move him on. I was only phalf paying attention until I heard the following quote from the aforementioned graveyard resident:

"I like sleeping here, the dead protect me. It's not the dead you have to be afraid of. The ones who hurt you are the ones that are alive."

Help! / Stuck on 'Homeworld'
30 April, 2003, 08:24:01 AM

Bought this delightful and oh-so-annoying game the other week but am now stuck on a level where you've got to destroy the huge spinning jump inhibitor. It's surrounded by a massive sphere of destroyers and three jump gates threatening to bring in reinforcements.

I know, I know, it should be p*** easy but I don't play games very often and the lack of progress is beginning to annoy me.

Any tips how I even get near the gate, never mind blow it up?!?http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B000063EKR.02.MZZZZZZZ">

It's comforting to know that even at such a tender age I still knew s*** when I saw it!

As proven by this clipping from prog 725 (don't know where the green line came from though!)http://longmanshort.batcave.net/Prog_725.jpg">

Kinda embarrassed about this one ...

Er...

How do I attach an image to the end of my post?

It's on a disk and I don't know what a URL is.

There, I said it, begin the throwing of rotten fruit...

General / Convention Virgin requires help ...
17 April, 2003, 09:30:01 PM
What?! Where you expecting some luscious redhead hoping to share your hotel room at Bristol?

Tough.

Have sort of managed to convince my girlfriend to let me go to Comicon at the end of May (her best mate has just moved down there. It was the classic conversation: "But darling, while I go to the convention at which you'd be really bored, you and your mate can go shopping". Sorted.)

Anyway, the last convention I went to was Babcom95 (bloody hell!) so can anyone tell me in twenty words or less their list of things I SHOULD NOT MISS at Bristol this year?

You've all been so wonderful with my other requests for random information - humour me one last time

Okay, so I'm doing some artwork for a magazine and am now coming up to the point where it needs to be lettered.

So does anybody know of any FREELY available programmes or templates for speech bubbles? Like one that I can just stretch to size, plonk on the page and add the words?

Or am I being tremendously naive/very lazy and it will, in fact, take me another week of painstaking work?

Would appreciate anyone's help!

Cheers

PS Apologies to everyone who's visited my s*** website - all but the first two pages have now crashed/disappeared from the server!

Megazine / Meg 2.05

My word, Pat Mills really did let rip in TPO didn't he!

"Creator-baiter"? Sounds like some pseudo-homosexual Deep South American white trash night time nefarious activity, if you ask me!

Though, TBH, considering the recent quality of Pat's stuff, you can't really blame Mr Diggle for getting his scalpel out!

Hmmmm, bacon and avacado sarnies!

So what's in Dredd's lunchbox (fnarr fnarr!)

What I mean is, what do Judges eat? Is there a cafeteria in the Grand Hall serving rations or plates of synthi-chow? Or do they do the American thing of sitting on their Lawmasters chowing down on donuts (surely not a very good image for the Judges, but considering the pot-bellied judges that turn up from time to time I wouldn't put it past them!) The truth must out!

While I appreciate everyone's focus is probably on the Bristol convention at the moment I just wondered if any boarders were going to this year's Le Mans race? I have the dubious pleasure of going with my dad and his mates, and it would be nice to talk to someone about something other than bloody cars!!!!

Help! / I wish to draw naked bodies ...
19 March, 2003, 05:48:20 PM
Any budding artists out there know of any life drawing/still life classes in the West Leeds/Horsforth area? Leeds City Council Adult Education Department, despite its title, knows NOTHING about ANY adult education courses in Leeds.

You see, I must draw naked, podgy flesh to improve my drawing skills ......... honest.

Thank you

You know all those annoying questions you come up with when you're either drunk or you're a BBC programmer like "If there was 24 hours until the end of the world, what would you do?"?

Well, if the today's news is anything to go by, now's the time to find out!

One day to war. I'm quite upset really. Just wanted to share that with you guys.

Thankyoupleasegoaboutyourbusinesscitizens...

Help! / Met any good scanners recently?
13 March, 2003, 11:19:11 PM
I'm hoping the artists (and budding artists) who visit here may be able to help me with this:

I'm looking to buy a scanner for the PC at which I currently sit all the hours God sends. I've been asked to send some samples of my artwork with the possibility of doing a strip in a small-run magazine. Colour photocopiers never bring out the colours properly so I was going to scan it onto disk and get it properly printed.

Anyway. Can anyone recommended a scanner with a decent resolution for artwork that isn't too pricey? Around about a limit of ?80 unfortunately, but if there's a really good one just outside of that range I'd consider it. It'd probably have to be A4 but I can cope with that.

ANY help you good people can give me then I would be very grateful ......... and a little emotional.

Cheers

General / Potential spolier but about Meg 204 ...
12 March, 2003, 02:43:45 AM
This is for those who have the new megazine. Am I making the following up?

In the Dredd story, we see the west wall being featured. Now, I always thought Cal built the wall to keep the citizens in AFTER he'd deposed Goodman.

I think I may have got this idea from listening to that Radio One Judge Dredd serial they did, but I can't remember and it's really bugging me now!

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Erm ... has anyone else failed to receive their prog this morning? Or has someone changed the subscription date without telling me? Wouldn't be so bad, but for the fifth week?!?!? I need my fix (and I've been to t'gym, so not feeling well)
