12-13 April. Didn't realize it was this soon.
Guests include Glenn Fabry, Simon Bisley and John McCrea. I've never been to an MCM before and heard a lot of mixed things about them, but I'll probably be going on the Saturday and have a look.

COMMANDO FORCES

So long as you know who you want to see and head to their tables straight away, then you can relax. Ignore everyone else until your mission is complete ;)

I don't have a hope of getting there until about midday, so I guessing it will be a mad house by that time. Hopefully I'll get a sketch or two and a few more signatures on The Book of Scars.

ZenArcade

I wouldn't mind heading down myself. If I brought my old Judgement on Gotham down, how much does the Biz charge for a signature? Z
Ed is dead, baby Ed is...Ed is dead

COMMANDO FORCES

All my stuff that the Biz has signed, he did free of charge and that includes sketches.

I wont be making the trip, its seem much more of a Sci Fi con that a comic con. I don't know of Derry is on this year but holiday have been booked so I wont make it to that either. Rumour of a mart in Galway, and I might take a punt on going to Dice, by all account its worth a look.

ZenArcade

Cheers CF, still after all the pleasure I've derived from his work in the prog I'd have no problems giving him a few bob! Z

Paddy Brown (regular attendee  author of the excellent cattle raider online comic) recently stated 2D was not happening this year. Which is a damm shame. Paddy isn't (as far as I know) officially connected to 2D but would know folk who are so his info is likely true. That leaves DICE as the 'real' comics event to go to in Ireland.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Seriously?  I've had a sailing competition every 2D weekend since it started, but this year my helm is away with work so I bowed out in happy anticipation of dragging the kids to their first comics con instead.  Buggeration!

mogzilla

the mcm thing seems to be mainly geared round the manga/anime scene as I found out when I went to manchesters but I did meet leigh Gallagher so it was worth a half hour wait behind the uberfan who must have remortgaged his house and cleaned leigh out of original art!
don't get into an argument with an idiot,he'll drag you down to his level then win with experience.

Yep a great shame as 2D was the sort of place Cam Kennedy would be sitting by himself happy to talk war comics with you for an hour. Far more relaxed and open than any other event and always with a minimum of ten 2000AD droids. The organisers seem to have cut their ties with the local council / arts venue that hosted and they have turned 2D into a schools / community 'events' program (paint a wall etc) with no actual 'convention'. More accurately the council seems to have cut their ties with the organisers who were left with no time / budget to get a paid event going. Hopefully next year...

MCN pitching up in Belfast the same week can hardly have helped their budget position.

COMMANDO FORCES

This seems to be what MCM are doing, hence no Cardiff con this year! Absolute disgrace

MCN Belfast have one guest announced - from Red Dwarf.

I'd bet it doesn't even happen. Will be no good will towards it in the NI comic community because of 2D.

Sorry to hear of Cardiff Con, it always had great write-ups.

Agreed. 2DFest has to be one of the best genuine comic cons in Ireland, along with DICE. I had that great conversation with Cam Kennedy too. What a gentleman.
Its such a pity that they seem to have had the rug pulled from under them by the Arts Council. Hopefully they'll be back next year.

Most embarrassing 2DFest fanboy story:
Me (to pauljholden): "I love your work PJ. You're one of the best Dredd artists"
PJ Holden: "Well you obviously haven't read much Dredd then"
Me (thinks): "F*@k you Holden".

Just realised that the comedy of the situation may not have come across in the last post. When I say "f*@k you Holden" what actually spluttered out of my big red embarrassed face was "ha ha no PJ... you are great... ha ha... seriously".  :-[
