'Ow do, folks.

I don't know if anybody's seen this, but I've recently been roped into helping a sentient cup of tea out with his YouTube channel recently.

Yes. You read that sentence right. He's apparently decided to give mankind the benefit of his immense wisdom during the current crisis, or some guff. Folks seem to be asking him some really important questions, and he encourages audience participation. So I figure you guys might fancy having a look.

Here's his latest (direct link below image.)

'Allo you lot! Remember me?

I barely get a chance to drop in on message boards for anything these days. Hope everyone's keeping alright!

I figured it was worth dropping by with a little shameless promotion of something I've had in the works for a while, which finally went live last month.

I'm now presenting a video game review show over on my Youtube channel. Actually getting it off the ground was a MASSIVE challenge, thanks to bad timing, a succession of spanners being thrown into the works, and a really comical number of false starts. But, to prove my irrepressible nature, I got the work done! And videos are going up now! And guess what? No bugger is watching them!

Wait... that last part isn't very good...

ANYWAY: For the benefit of interested parties, I thought I'd lob in some tasty links to a few videos and the Twitter account I've set up for folks who want to keep up with the behind the scenes stuff that's gone into the show, as well as my inane ramblings. The Twitter account is a separate one from teh main account I use for comics networking, to keep things compartmentalised. If you fancy following it, you can find me there as @HdE_playsgames.

The show itself is all about knocking out review based content of whatever gets put in front of me. It might be something new, but it'll probably be something old. Or even something REALLY old. This venture originally had a few other people on board who have all decided they'd rather do other things now, so I'm left with a few boxes of video games, a whole range of different consoles, and a REALLY confusing array of video capture gear.

I'm uploading in season blocks, with 12 videos per season. And I'm coming up on my first 'mid season break' - where I'll be taking a couple of weeks out to get some more stuff together and make further plans for the show, including (I hope) finding a way to fund it.

For now, though, you can find the channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVnBKYo3Lyand2miArsa1Ig

And to give you a couple of tasters of what I'm posting over there, why not check out these reviews of
X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE - UNCAGED EDITION for the Playstation 3
https://youtu.be/Ar6rZNLZVEA

Or, if something more sedate is your bag, SUBSURFACE CIRCULAR for the Nintendo Switch
https://youtu.be/iwc_ZVLnAAI

Alternatively, if you want to see how old-school I'm prepared to go, you could watch today's video, where I ramble about how great the Atari 7800 versionof ASTEROIDS is:
https://youtu.be/o9YrxtFFS2g

I'm aiming to knock out reviews of games for all kinds of systems, including (thanks to the folks who donated them) the Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, Sega Master System, Atari 2600, X Box 360, Playstation 2, Intellivision and more. And, provided I can work out the technical side of ripping a video signal out of them, I'm hoping to add coverage of games for things like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and even a few handheld systems as well.

There's a ton of work that's gone into this quietly over the last 18 months, and I'm hoping I can commit to this for a long while to come. But, as ever with these things, it needs your support!

I'm hoping to take this beyond Youtube at some point, as the landscape over there is really inhospitable right now. Things have only got this far thanks to my being able to wangle the meagre funding I could (it takes time, effort and resources to do this stuff, after all.) But viewing figures are atrocious right now. Videos just seem not to reach subscribers or new viewers - which is kind of consistent with the abysmally stupid decision making Google have brought to their ownership of Youtube.

If this kind of thing is your bag, please do jump on board. I've re-purposed my old channel, so anybody who was subbed to that should still be (but do check - the site LOVES to disconnect me from subscribers.) I'd suggest clicking on the notification bell icon as well, as that seems to be a better way to ensure you actually SEE the content when it's uploaded.

I hope to see some of you over there! Really hoping I can turn this into something fun.

'Allo you lovely lot!

I haven't been around these parts as much latey due to being kept REALLY busy with work. Thought it might be a good idea to to pop back in and mention a video I uploaded yesterday on Youtube where I play through the first half hour of the new God of War game on PS4. It's a bit neat - even if my crappy video equipment doesn't do a brilliant job of capturing it. (Audio's a bit scratchy as well at the start.)

Here be the link for anyone who's interested:
https://youtu.be/nAUb7uHl7To

I've actually gone a bit beyond some of the stuff in the video. This game is INSANE! I played through a boss fight last night that made me wonder if what I was seeing was even possible!

I don't know if I'll get a chance to play any more of it this week, let alone record any more of the game (I've just fought off a Content ID troll, Kratos style, on this video as it is) but it really is a treat!

Anyone else got a copy yet?

Howdy-ho, chaps and chapesses!

Just a quick note that I set up a blog recently, where I talk about anime. You can find it here:

https://watchingthosecartoons.wordpress.com/

I set this up just because I got nagged to, really. And it's actually quite fun stuff to write about. Over the last couple of months I've had some worrying stuff going on as well, and putting together a small, just-for-fun project has been a good antidote to that.

It'll be an irregular update kind of deal (as I'd rather spend free time making comics) but I've still given some thought as to how I can make it useful. If anime is something you're into or curious about, and the plethora of overly sarcastic, sweary and (frankly) rather naff YouTube reviews wears you down, hopefully you'll find what I'm posting a bit more to your taste.

The principal aim of it is to talk about stuff that isn't perhaps as well known, and to that end, I don't necessarily talk about brand new stuff. Some of it may even be out of print. There's some damned coool stuff out there in Japanese Cartoon Land, and it ain't necessarily the stuff everyone knows about.

Anyways, there it is. Feel free to give it a read and sign up to follow. There's a Facebook page as well, for convenience:

Creative Common / Broken Goddess Athena - webcomic by HdE
24 September, 2014, 01:53:02 AM
Hello Tharglets!

I'm a little leery of posting this here, as I'm not sure exactly how appropriate it is to use this sub forum as an airing ground for personal projects. That said, I've poured a LOT of work into this project since I started it, and I'm pretty keen that it gets seen, and people at least know it exits.

On October 1st I'll be launching what amounts to my first major comics work as both writer and artist. Broken Goddess Athena (for that, dear friends, is what it is entitled) is my attempt to make the kind of comic I want to read. I'll not say TOO much about it, because I want the actual story to come as something of a surprise to any readers who are charitable enough to give it their time. Suffice to say, its a space opera.

I've been posting promo images around the web recently in hopes of drumming up some interest. Here's one that hopefully gives you a glimpse of it at its most action-tacular:

Further promos to come ahead of the launch date. Speculate away, chum and pals!

... I wrote one!

Yessums! I'm cock-a-hoop over this. Vertical Publishing have chosen to employ a short excerpt from my review of 'Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin', which I penned for the Anime UK News website, in their promotion for the latest volume.

Here's a link for those sufficiently interested. I'm not credited by name, but the blurb at the bottom of the grey column is from me.

http://www.vertical-inc.com/books/gundam.html

This is one of those things that probably feels much cooler than it actually is. But I'm pretty much ecstatic to hear about it.

Apparently, the quote appears on the current print run of the latest volume as well.

Creative Common / HdE - LETTERPUNK!
15 June, 2013, 04:27:01 PM
For that is the name of mine very own blog! Yup. I letter stuff. But you guys knew that, right?

Now, generally, I don't post a lot here by way of samples or whatnot. I sort of view this board as the venerable Jim Campbell's little bit o' turf. But I've decided that my blog has grown sufficiently in stature and girth - yes, GIRTH - that I'd post a thread here to draw your attention to it. You can find it here:

http://letterpunk.wordpress.com/

I update fairly irregularly, but as the page doubles as an online portfolio, you can expect to see stuff pop up there in due course.

Today's latest post is to do with a rather full page I lettered for the Transformers Multiverse fan project, which I also run along with my little team of co-ordinators. I worked pretty hard on this one, so I'm feeling inclined to get a few eyes on it.

Now, I'm out of this thread before Jim shows up and beats me with iron bars, or something.

General / Them new coffe mugs are a bit tasty, innit?
06 October, 2012, 10:49:57 PM
Except, I wouldn't know, as my recent fiscal misfortune meant I had to cancel my orders of the two new mug designs I'd placed. Along with everything else I'd pre-ordered on Amazon.

Ah well... I decided to work out this suprisingly-more-depressing-than-it-should-be turn of events with an episode of my irregular webcomic. I was hoping I could weave it into one fo the ongoing Dredd discussions here, but what the heck - here it is!

I really want some coffee now...

Welcome to the board / Hello everybody!
22 July, 2009, 07:52:42 PM
Hi all! I'm a new user to the boards, possibly a few folks have seen my work over on DeviantArt.

Just a note to say hello to everybody online. I may not be around much, but I'll definitely stop by to see what's going on every once in a while.
