Title: Subscriber free gifts.
Post by: Mattofthespurs on 19 December, 2018, 05:58:54 PM
I've been a subber for 14 years now and not received a free gift, bar that first year, since.

Got the latest email and I see they are offering them again to new subbers.

Just feel like I get pissed on being a monthly subber.

Could just go the newsagent route and not worry about it but want to support Rebellion but they seem to shun me everytime they do one of these offers.

Anyone else feel the same?

Stupid question maybe but have you phoned them? I've been a double subber for the last decade or more and always get the new gift when they update.

I changed my sub to annual yesterday to take advantage of the free gifts as never received anything with the monthly sub

I always get the new subber gifts too - do you subscribe to both Prog and Meg? If you do I'd give them a call. They normally appear after renewal though, not when they are announced.

I've been a monthly subber, both titles for 10 years. Recieved the free gifts for first couple of years, then iirc they would send a note out saying if I wanted the gifts I could buy them, then a few years back the notes stopped.

TBH this is something that does really piss me off.  They can bank on my money month in month out and it costs more than an annual / biannual sub.  They don't even bother to offer the opportunity to purchase the latest 'gift' much less post it out for gratis.  Granted a lot of the time it doesn't matter too much but every once in a while it would be nice to be considered a loyal supporter rather than a marked rube.

Heaven forbid they take a leaf out of Hachettes book, but a "premium" monthly sub that gave you the gifts would be a no brainer for me

Agree.

Yes, I sub to both and the money is taken direct on a monthly basis.

Hippy, Buttonman- just for clarity- are you a monthly direct debit subber to both titles and you routinely get all the free gifts following the anniversary of your set-up date?

If I've got any of that wrong, please let me know?

'Annual' DD- so you pay a lump sum once a year rather than being juiced every month?

If so, the 'annual' thing seems to be key.

I pay mine in a one off payment about April - usually try and con the wife into coughing it up for my birthday. They may therefore take it as a new subscription each year rather than a DD payer who has one long continuous sub. Seems a bit unfair but maybe it's hard to monitor each year as they rollover. Still  a simple programme should be able to flag who has 12 month's service for each year.

I haven't really registered when the gifts show up but I'd guess about 2 months after I splash the cash.

I think it's more to do with paying for the entire year in one go. Tharg gets all your cash up front, so he knows how much he has to work with during the year, whereas Tjm could (theoretically) quit at any time.

2.5.3 Exclusive Combi Subscriber Bonus Premium Product.

Each year a bonus premium product is offered exclusively to print subscribers. Annual and two-year combi subscribers (i.e. those taking out a print subscription to both 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Magazine) of good standing qualify for one unit of this for free per year.

Other print subscribers of good standing may purchase a single unit of this product per year.

Good Standing in this context means: any new annual or two-year subscriber, or an existing annual subscriber with four months or more to go before renewal, or a renewing annual or two-year subscriber, or any monthly-paying subscriber who has paid for and received copies for a minimum of four continuous months.

Rebellion reserve the right to withdraw or amend the free premium subscription offer at their sole discretion

'tis true, I could quit at any point, and yes I was aware that if I changed to annual then I would be eligible for whatever was on offer that year.  The point about having all cash in one go and having a longer commitment is a fair one but then it is also the cheaper option compared to subscribing monthly.

Wondering if I should read too much into the fact that the purchase option never seems to come up despite having been reading the prog for over 40 years and subscribing for the best part of a decade.  What does that say about my 'standing'? ::)  At the end of the day Rebellion have made up their mind and been transparent about the terms.  Why they don't seem to follow through and offer monthly subscribers the purchase option like they say is a bit of a mystery.

Sometimes it feels like the only benefit of subscribing and paying monthly is for the benefit of possibly receiving the prog on a Saturday morning and the excitement of discovering what degree of mangling the postal service has subjected it to.

hmmm, what if monthly subscribers were able to log in to the rebellion site with subs number and thereby purchase the subscription incentive (whatever it may be) at the, presumably, reduced cost.

Would that be a prohibitive thing to set-up?

just wondering as many of the incentives are items I'd not personally go for, but if there 'was' one- I'd be miffed if I couldn't even purchase it despite paying every month for over 15 years...

Well much to my surprise yesterday popped to the neighbours to pick up packages which I just assumed were christmas gifted that had not yet landed and much to my surprise amongst them was the John Higgins Prints set - in a rather lovely box I have to say.

Now the reason this was a surprise is I've never got one of the sub. gifts before. I've been a physical Prog annual sub for 10 years, an annual digital Meg for the last 3 or 4 as well. Never worried about it as I always accepted that by far the best deal for Rebellion is to get money in the bank ahead of time for the year and so they gave gifts as an insentives to push folks towards buying both phyiscal items for max return. That option doesn't work for me (though damned I'm as close as can be!) and so happy for those that get them.

This landing has just been a nice bonus. I do wonder if my getting it has anything to do with the fact that the Block War card game landed at the same time (judging by the postmarks from the same place) and this somehow triggered someone to look at my account and send the prints? Who knows. Anyway given that a third package was the fourth Dante hardcover from Hatchette quite the haul for me last night!

Cheers

Actually is this the John Higgins subscribers gift OR a special Xmas gift from Tharg?

The advert for the Kennedy / Higgins subs gift has that great Higgins dread cover from when the format changed around prog 520. This has 'just' the Al Ewing / Higgins choose your own Dredd story and one Dredd-Xmas cover card. Making me think it's a different and awesome thing.

Thanks Tharg either ways!

I'm on a DD rollover. Rebellion is VERY good about this compared to every other sub I've ever had. You get 'warning' emails about the payment several months out. So you get one saying your payment will be taken in three months, two months and one month. There's plenty of time to change your mind, and no surprise at the next payment happening.

As for free gifts, I got the Higgins one through the post yesterday.

I thought it was a pot-luck one or the other deal.

Got mine too - it's a lovely thing, but an odd beast. Unless you plan to mount the entire strip on a wall, what are you supposed to do with it? I'd have preferred a set of covers or splash pages.

Another one here who used to sub and only ever got a gift the first year (prog and meg).  I moved home a few times in one year and couldn't see any point keeping the sub if I wasn't getting anything for it, so have been supporting my FLCS ever since.

Also is the 50% off voucher a second one in addition to the one they gave for the late Prog last year?
Title: Re: Subscriber free gifts.

The print arrived today, lovely thing and we'll packaged (flat).

If they had a order to print version for regular 2000ad cover art (with or without the logo and strap lines) they'd make a mint.

The 50% discount is in addition to last years complimentary sorry-for-the-fuck-up one. No idea if they accumulate if you don't use them - this one has an expiration date.

It is very nice, though mine is somewhat...bent.  Not the envelope, just the print itself- not super creased bent, more "Droid tried to put it in the envelope and met resistance" bent, but annoying nonetheless!
Title: Re: Subscriber free gifts.

Actually. looking more closely at the envelope, Postie has bent it about 2/3rd of the way -very neat bend, not obvious now it has straightened out - shame the same cant be said for the print - a "do not bend" message might aahve been in order on the envelope?

The meg and the prog have that printed on the envelope but I don't think posties actually understand what it means.

Got the Poster Prog recently as I 'm a new Subscriber but today, in pure Future Shock style, not one-BUT THREE Progs turned up at once. I had to restrain myself to reading two and leaving the third for later, less my thrill factor overload. Though I 'll miss my weekly outings to the newsagents [so long ago], I've got 2000AD to look forward to every week instead. The first Prog Cover art I recieved as a subscriber was by P J Holden who had drawn a lone monkey on a Phone or Telly Mast. It said a lot about these isolated times, but with my weekly sub of thrill-power to look forward too, I just might make it out of this mess the unhinged side of sanity.
