General / Greg Staples in Imagine FX
28 August, 2007, 12:04:30 PM
Just a heads up to let you folks know that there's a 6-page article on the god-like Staples droid in the new issue of Imagine FX.

Haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I'm looking forward to a lunch-break treat!

Cheers

General / Help locating character
20 March, 2007, 01:02:59 PM
Hi there peeps

One of my students is trying to track down a character from the early days of 2000ad, and what he tells me doesn't ring any bells... any ideas?

He says he wore big shades and fired a water pistol filled with acid. Apparently he had his own strip, rather than being a bit-part character in another strip.

I know that's a bit vague, but any help gratefully received!

Film & TV / Casino Royale Full Trailer

Howdy Peeps

I remember an age ago taking part in a discussion here as to whether the Bond franchise was about to disappear without trace after Brosnan left/got the shove.

Just seen the full trailer for Casino Royale, and have to say I'm putting my misgivings about Daniel Craig to the side for the time being. I reckon this looks bloody ace!

What's everyone else think?

Not sure if the other good folks on the board have caught this, but I noticed that there's a rather good lot in the May auction at www.compalcomics.com:

Good, bright copy of Prog One, with spinner, signed by John Wagner, Alan Moore, Mike McMahon, Kev O'Neill, Simon Bisley, Brian Bolland and Richard Burton.

The reserve is a slightly laughable ?300-350. I reckon it should top that EASILY. Anyone going to go for it?

Off Topic / Beano Artwork
30 August, 2003, 02:48:51 AM
Right, at the risk of being laughed out of town...

Having a think about enlarging the scope of my artwok collection, and it occured to me that it's be nice to track down some Bash Street Kids art that I used to like as a kid... this'd be eighties stuff

It occured to me I've never seen any for sale, at conventions, fairs, shops or on Ebay- no Beano art at all, in fact, except for real early Dudley Watkins stuff over at Compalcomics (sadly well out of my price range)

Does anyone know if this stuff is ever on the market? Or is it all still kept in a vault at DC Thompson, where one day they'll decide to chuck it all on a skip and poo on it?

Be real nice to get some, if anyone can point me in the right direction...

Off Topic / Dr Who DVD
14 August, 2003, 04:33:27 AM
Howdy Folks, advice needed

For the first time in an age I'll be having some spare cash this week, and I fancy buying myself a treat. Been inspired by the 'Young Dr Who' thread, and reckon I'll track down Dr Who on DVD, since I haven't seen any since I was a kid and I fancy wallowing in a bit of nostalgia.

Only problem is

a) I don't know what's available, and

b) I have no idea which ones are good anyway (my critical faculties not being all that sharp when I was a nipper)

Anyone got any faves I should keep an eye out for?

Cheers,

General / Hammer Book- Gordon R

Really for Gordon-
Just going through my pile of 'current things'- and at the bottom is a copy of the Hammer Story by Alan Barnes that I dug out a couple of months ago because Gordon mentioned he might need a copy- do you still need one? Or if anyone else fancies it, I've got all the visual ref I need from it, so drop a reply and you can have it for a song

Only ask because otherwise it'll go back in the shelf!

Off Topic / Flash Game
03 June, 2003, 01:29:01 AM
Hey Folks- I need your help!

I've just finished (at least, nearly finished) my first Flash platform game, which I've put up online at my new site www.adamtwycross.co.uk

The main character, Joe Barbarian, owes a lot in look to a certain Celtic Barbarian who you're all familiar with, and his name is a little homage to Pat Mill's and John Wagner's propensity to call their heroes Joe.

Anyhow, as I say, I've just finished it, and am in the process of ironing out a few glitches in the programming- if any of you feel like helping me out, head over to the site and tell me how it is to play... I particularly need to know if the download time is okay, make sure it doesn't play slow on your computers and that kind of thing.

Cheers folks!

General / Copyright Question
07 May, 2003, 04:37:52 AM
Just an idle thought, this, but it'd be interesting to know...

The rights to Dan Dare are now held by the Dan Dare Corporation, not by 2000AD, right?

But who owns the rights to the other characters from the original Eagle (PC 49, Jack O' Lantern, Harris Tweed and all the rest?)

Any Ideas?

General / Samantha Slade
16 April, 2003, 05:37:28 AM
Hokey Dokey, how's about this.... :)

A wee while back I started off a discussion about the pros and cons of Robo Hunter making a return appearance in tooth, as long as Wagner and Gibson could be persuaded to come back for writing and art duties (god forbid another Millar debacle!)

Something I hadn't come across was the idea of a new Robo Hunter series starring Sam's daughter Samantha. The idea had first evolved for a Playstation game which was subsequently shelved, and a pic of Samantha Slade can be found on Ian's website (cheers to Uncle Umpty for his original post on the subject!)

Now, people seemed broadly in favour of a new Robo Hunter series, but a good deal of us felt that Sam should be left well enough alone, the existing stories being of such quality that tinkering with the series might do more harm than good...

But I reckon a new series starring Sam's daughter would be a sure-fire winner... Ian Gibson's women, gags-a plenty, Wagner on writing duties, cameos of Sam as a crotchety old bugger... what more could we ask for?
BUT, the key question has to be... would Wagner and Gibson be up for it?
Well, I've had a chat with Ian, and he seems keen on the idea. I quote:

"As to John Wagner and the new Samantha Slade story - I figure you will need to muster your pals in a major onslaught on the 2000AD site to try to sway the editors and see what happens... ;)"

So come on, who's with me? WAGNER! GIBSON! ROBO HUNTER! You know it makes sense!

General / Robo Hunter... the return?
02 February, 2003, 01:13:01 AM
Now, how's this for an idea.... Toothy has seen several classic characters return to its pages in the last few years (Johnny Alpha, the original Rogue, the VCs-even the Fiends of the Eastern Front popping up in MC1, for Grud's sake!)
Surely I can't be the only one to hanker for Sam Slade to make a triumphant return to the pages of the galaxy's greatest as well. And I'm not talking some ridiculous travesty from Mark Millar either- but the real, one-of-a-kind, Wagner and Gibson masterpiece.
Now, I know that the story came  pretty much full-circle with 'Farewell, My Billions', but surely we could have a few one-offs, a few 'untold tales of...' from the middle era of the character (round about the time of 'Beast of Blackheart Manor').

Now, I'm pretty much convinced that if Rebellion asked Ian to do it, the answer would be somewhere along the lines of "Only if John were writing it..." and if Mr.Wagner were asked the same question, the only proviso would be that a certain artist (you know the one- draws fantastic women with small, shapely ankles) could be persuaded to put pencil to paper.

So what do you all reckon... Does a petition start here???

Any confirmation of star appearances from droids we can expect to be at the con?
