Announcements / Forum update – 2/2/23
01 February, 2023, 06:02:27 PM
Attention, forumites!

The 2000 AD web droids, who spend their meagre existence feverishly working in the code mines, have been granted a rare upgrade by Tharg the Mighty and on 2 February 2023 the 2000 AD forum will be updated to a new and more secure version.

The forum will be down for around two hours for the work to take place. Your accounts will be unaffected, but you will need to log back in after the update is complete.

Announcements / 2000 AD ART STARS – enter now!
09 May, 2018, 09:54:07 PM
Some of the biggest artists in comic books got their break at the legendary award-winning 2000 AD – and you could be joining them! CBR has the announcement: https://www.cbr.com/2000-ad-judge-dredd-art-competition/

Our new art competition - 2000 AD Art Stars - is your chance to get into the pages of 2000 AD AND get paid for it!

Star Scans have been a staple of 2000 AD since its earliest days: single-image pin-ups of the greatest characters in the galaxy, from Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog to Dan Dare and Rogue Trooper, drawn by some of the best artists in comics from Brian Bolland and Dave Gibbons to Jock and Liam Sharp!

Every four months, we're giving artistic Earthlets the chance to submit Star Scan pin-ups based on 2000 AD characters – and the winner, chosen by the editorial team at 2000 AD, will be published in a future edition of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic. PLUS they'll be paid for their art!

Each four months we'll announce a new theme and Earthlets can submit their art direct to the editorial droids. Our editor will choose their favourite image for publication. Plus, a runner up will be chosen by public vote and receive zarjaz 2000 AD graphic novels! This is your chance to follow in the footsteps of some of comics' greatest artistic talents and, who knows, maybe break into the industry yourself!

THIS MONTH'S THEME IS: JUDGE DREDD

To submit your Judge Dredd-themed 2000 AD Art Star entry now, email the artwork as a 300dpi jpg image (no bigger than 10mb in size) to 2000adartcomp@gmail.com
Entries are open until 9th September 2018. Terms and conditions apply.

Follow the competition as we feature selected entries on 2000 AD's social media at:

Instagram: instagram.com/2000adartcomp
Facebook: facebook.com/2000adartcomp
Twitter: twitter.com/2000AD
Tumblr: 2000ADonline.tumblr.com

Terms and Conditions:
All entries will be judged by editorial staff at 2000 AD. The judges' decision is final.
The winning entry will be published as a 'Star Scan' in a forthcoming edition of 2000 AD, the date to be decided by editorial.
In order for their entry to be published in 2000 AD and to receive payment, the winner must sign a standard contract with 2000 AD/Rebellion.
Entries may be selected to feature on 2000 AD's social media accounts with due named credit.
Non-winning entries will not be used by 2000 AD and will be deleted from Rebellion's servers as soon as a winner is chosen (selected images will remain on social media but can be removed upon request). Artwork remains the property of artists but copyright of characters remains with Rebellion.
Entries not fitting the relevant quarter's theme will not be considered.
Entries will not be considered from professionals currently or previously working in the comic book industry, as adjudicated by 2000 AD.

Announcements / 2000 AD - The Ultimate Collection
27 February, 2017, 06:03:27 PM
After the huge success of Judge Dredd: The Mega Collection, we're delighted to tip you off you that Hachette Partworks is to trial a new collection bringing together stories from 40 years of 2000 AD.

You may well see or hear about test volumes appear in newsagents in certain parts of the country over the next month. These tests are being done to see if a series would work and, if the test is successful, there'll be a big national launch at a later date - just like there was with the Mega Collection.

This is very exciting for us as the Mega Collection has been hugely positive for 2000 AD and we want that success to continue.

We appreciate every fan's interest in ensuring these tests are successful - WE want them to be successful too, but we also appreciate Hachette's concerns that people rushing into the test areas and bulk buying copies will skew their numbers and could put the viability of a national launch at risk. We and Hachette don't publicise these tests for that very reason.

At the same time, we know you'll want to get your hands on what promise to be rather tasty new hardcover editions. If you're desperate to get a copy of one of the books and you find yourself NOT in a test area, please send me your name and address through this forum, we'll see about getting you a sample copy from Hachette (dependant on supplies).

The series website is now live at www.2000adcollection.com if you want to see how the collection might take shape if it does launch nationally.

This is yet more great news for 2000 AD in its 40th anniversary year and we know we can count on your support if the collection gets the go ahead!

General / 'Get well soon' messages to Peter Doherty
05 December, 2016, 07:51:05 PM
For those of you who haven't heard, artist Peter Doherty has been very seriously ill in hospital since 23 November. Originally thought to be suffering a heart attack, Peter was diagnosed with a torn aorta and underwent major surgery. After a number of days under sedation he's now awake again but will be in hospital for a while yet.

We're putting together a card for Peter from the droids in the 2000 AD Command Module, but we'd also like to include messages from his fans on the forum.

So if you'd like to send him best wishes or a 'get well soon' message, please leave it on this thread and when we send the card we'll print them off and include them so that Peter can see just how many people are wishing him a speedy recovery.

Cheers,

I'm delighted to announce that our very own Pete Wells is bringing his 2000 AD Covers Uncovered blog to 2000ADonline.com. Each week he'll do what he does so very well - go behind the scenes on the latest 2000 AD and Megazine covers, and regale us with the very worst puns imaginable (which I'm told *very occasionally* make Tharg green(er) with envy!)

Here's his first post, and what a corker http://www.2000adonline.com/post/522

Just a heads-up for everyone: current high sales volumes may lead to some delays in shipping orders from the webshop, though staff are working hard to make sure that these are short as possible.

Last year, thanks to our dedicated fans, missing episodes of the long-running Judge Dredd stories from The Daily Star newspaper were unearthed so that they could be included in The Daily Dredds Volume 1, making it the first ever truly complete collection of these fascinating and entertaining strips.

2000 AD's reprographics droids are now busy working on a second volume of The Daily Dredds - and they once again need the help of fans to track down two missing episodes from a later story.

The Sheriff of Festering Hole ran for 57 episodes (numbered from #1373 to #1429) in the Daily Star from 30th July 1990 to 3rd October 1990, written by John Wagner and Alan Grant, with art by Mike Collins.

However, so far they have been unable to find good copies of the episodes numbered #1415 and #1416.

Any Earthlets who have access to either scans or good/excellent physical copies of these two missing episodes should contact 2000 AD by e-mailing press@rebellion.co.uk

The Daily Star strip, which ran for around 2,980 episodes from 1981 until 1998, went further than merely compressing existing stories from the weekly anthology comic - it was responsible for fleshing out many of the aspects of Dredd's world mentioned in 2000 AD.  It was written by co-creator John Wagner and writing partner Alan Grant, while fan favourite artist Ron Smith produced the vast bulk of the strip, though later contributors included Ian Gibson, Barry Kitson, Steve Dillon, and Mike Collins.

Announcements / No 2000 AD for Free Comic Book Day 2016
06 November, 2015, 12:29:15 PM
You may have seen the report today that unfortunately, after several very successful years, 2000 AD has not been chosen to participate in the Free Comic Book Day event in 2016.

We just issued the following statement:

"2000 AD is very proud of the success of our FCBD issue, which saw orders grow in huge jumps every single year, exceeding 60,000 units in 2015. We value FCBD, and the effort Diamond and the retailers put into making the day so successful, for the opportunity to support comic book stores, reach out to new audiences both within and beyond the UK, and to give something extra to readers. As such, we have proudly and routinely commissioned original content from top flight talent for our FCBD issues and increased the page count to a hefty 48 pages.

"It is therefore very disappointing to not be taking part in the 2016 event, particularly since we were so excited about including work by such huge talents as Eric Powell, Joelle Jones, and Laura and Mike Allred.

"We don't want to keep that from our readers, so we have therefore taken the decision to still bring this amazing work out in May 2016 in a new Summer Special issue, full details of which will be forthcoming.

"Meanwhile we hope readers and retailers who are disappointed not to be able to pick up a 2000 AD FCBD issue next year will give their support to us and the Summer Special. We very much hope to be back in FCBD in 2017 and will be working hard for that to happen."
