Title: 2000AD Exhibition
Post by: red_lichtie on 09 July, 2003, 06:29:16 PM
The 2000Ad exhibition ha finally reached the deepest darkest nether regions of hell also known as Forfar. The local paper even managed to get a photograph of the pinball machine under the headline something like Sci Fi exhibition comes to Forfar!

Also, according to teletext, the Judge Dredd computer game will be at the playstation experience at Earls Court.

If you have a digital camera and would like to write a feature on it for the website, please go ahead.

The pinball machine is W.R. Logan's. There is an SD Studios belt buckle, badge and helmet from my collection, plus a lawgiver prop prototype (double whammy extended, but with no sights along the top surface), a Medicom action figure and a Raider Command.

I believe this exhibition may merit a Royal visit.

It's at the Meffan Gallery, Forfar, IIRC, if any local boarders are looking into it.

I'm not far away, in Perth, so I hope to make a trek across country to the wild county of Angus to see the contents of Logan's garage for myself.

Cheers Logan- apparentely there's one with the DREDDCON image somewhere- I saw a glimpse of it on a Childrens BBC advert for the show 'X-Change'.... very weird to see the presenter standing next to a life size version of my Dredd....

That's Brian Bolland's Dredd, ya big eejit. Either that or Robin Smith had a hithertoo unknown "Brian Bolland" phase he went through.

Hang on...

Ah, after having looked at the cover enlarged I'd guess Bolland did the drawing for the cutout and then Robin Smith based the cover VERY closely on it. But there's enough there to give it away.

I agree PJ. That is not a robin smith dredd.

The standee looks like Bolland, the cover looks like Smith... Il check the cover story thing to see who is credited.. failing that I'll look at my own copy of that prog....

I've just got a Judge Dredd Standee and recognise the style but of course have no idea who's it is.
Identification (artist, year it was used etc)appreciated!

I must say it's very impressive, over 6ft tall and in many ways the way I would expect Dredd to be in person (and I met him in FP once lol)

Thanks Umpty :)

Well not even ?9 postage as he lives in the same town as me, dropped it off at work for me and I got a lift home so I was very happy yesterday.
I just rounded it off to ?10 in total.
He said he got it in a sale the day before he put it on Ebay, the bloke he bought it from really didn't want to sell it but the woman he was with was very happy to see it go!

So is there a Moniave Comic Festival this year?

If so count this long necked but tiny brained dinosaur as attending.

Maybe we could have a McShedcon as well?

Marvellous - I'd checked the site a few weeks ago but couldn't see anything.

I think that I might stay over this year... Time to start another thread to see who fancies going along I think...

I've had no luck with Moniaive in past years, due to work and holiday commitments, so this year I'm determined to go.

McShedcon 1 is a must.

This could be one for me... My Brother and I are walking The Southern Upland Way,(sounds kind of Nu Earth) in easy stages. This passes nearby, so I maybe able to combine two birds with one visit, three if you count drinking.

How about a bit background? Any reports fi previous Moniaive gigs? How big is it numbers wise? What's the social side like? Would I have to talk or smile or any of those social skills things they keep trying to teach me?

It's great because as Comic Events go, this one is small and intimate.

You get plenty of time to chat one on one with the creators.

I was at a writing panel with Alan Grant and John Wagner and there were only about a dozen people in the room.

Socially, I would imagine it's great too but I can't say really as I've never stayed until everybody heads to the pub. I did meet up with that nice PVS last year which made it easier to get round.

I plan to stay over this year and put in some quality beer time, especially as our piscine Monarch will be in attendance.

Attractions in Moniaive on the south uplands way.

Places along the South Uplands way including Moniaive.

Plus the Moniaive website.
