Title: iPhone games
Post by: bluemeanie on 26 April, 2010, 09:04:59 AM
Before I go on about any, gotta tell you about a very cool site.... no, really, not spam, just cool

www.freeappaday.com

Basically in order to bump games up the rating system, companies offer the paid ones free for 24hrs to get a shit load of downloads and reviews. This site tracks them.
In the last week I got Heavy Gunner, Battle Bears : Zombies, and Marine Sharpshooter ... the last two of which are still free at time of this post. Gunner is back to its 1.79 price tag.

Anyway, still far and away my fave is Doodle Jump which is all kinds of addictive. I was also recommended Angry Birds which is a bit too much fun and is actually making the wife consider an iphone whereas before she didnt see the point of having one.
Others I play a lot are Poker Superstars 3, Dragons Lair and Pocket God

I think there's an app (Pandorasbox IIRC) that will do something similar as well.  Useful.

sometimes, your posts are magnifcent, others merely brillant.
this one tops the list.
bloody master stroke!

just convinced wife she needs an itouch, further still suggested she take my 16 gig, and buy a new 64gig one to replace mine.

i am sure i will have to accept the purchase of a new prada itouch pouch to clove her new toy in, but i get the 64G, so its a worthy trade.

Todays free one looks like a rip of the old GTA games.
Just downloading now

I knew there was a thread for this somewhere. Great links fellas. I only got my first Jabscreen at the weekend and I'm already addicted to Angry Birds, Cut the Rope and Doodle Jump. GAH.

Dead Zone is pretty damn decent too.

I had an HTC phone for a little while, but returned it after being thoroughly unimpressed with the selection of games, battery life (which wouldn't even last a full day at work!), glitches and most of all the reception (phone cutting off in the middle of business calls is not cool!).

Got an iPhone 4 instead and it's a truly amazing bit of kit. I've downloaded a fair few apps and games so far (imo the app store makes the Android market look like a shabby market stall in comparison!), namely:

Angry Birds
Cut the Rope (ingenious and charming puzzle game)
Dead Space (Amazing graphics, barely played it so far though!)
Doodle Jump (addictive minigame - like a more polished version of Android's Abduction)
Doom Classic (Port of the original Doom - fiddly controls, but still plays great once you get to grips with it)
Fruit Ninja
Infinity Blade (Stunning looking sword combat game - looking forward to getting my teeth into it)
Monkey Island SE (Remake of the PC/Amiga classic - the first two Monkey games are among my all time favourites - I tend to play through them every 5 years or so, I'll probably end up getting the sequel at some point)
Plants Vs Zombies (Sort of a tower defense type game - looks very cool)
Rolando (Gorgeous puzzly platformer that reminds me a bit of Lemmings)
Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor (Very cool-looking action adventure game)
Bookworm (Addictive word-based puzzle game by the makers of Peggle)
The Incident (Amusing action game with cool retro graphics, probably won't hold my interest for long)
Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP (Intriguing and stylish-looking game, yet to play it much)
Zenonia and Zenonia 2 (Zelda-like RPGs, currently going for a bargain 59p each)

I love my iPhone. I'd probably kill rather than give it up to a mugger.

You just want an opportunity to kill a mugger.  ;)

There may be some truth to this...

QuoteI love my iPhone. I'd probably kill rather than give it up to a mugger.

I bit the bullet and got it insured. It's a massive pain to pay out an extra £14 a month, but the thought of getting mugged (not outside the realms of possibility round where I work and hang out) or dropping/misplacing it and having to shell out for a new one is too much for me.

This, coupled with the fact that all my apps/photos etc are synced to my iTunes account should mean that it would only be a minor inconvenience to lose the phone itself.

Was at a family event today, getting lots of oohs and ahhs demonstrating the Hipstamatic camera app - it's scarily easy to turn into one of those people isn't it?  :D

Plants v Zombies

That is all

Had a proper go on Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery this morning, and wow - it's really impressive. Absolutely gorgeous retro-modern graphics, and the audio side of things is equally as impressive (you'll need a decent set of headphones to get the most out of it).

About as cool as a videogame can be - could well join the likes of Ico and Rez in the list of arty/trendy games with real substance - though i imagine that as with the aforementioned, some people won't quite 'get' it...

So instead of turning off the way Flash was automatically downloaded in order to increase the battery life of your HTC, you decided to turn off Flash altogether...?

;-)

Tried the Flash/HTC thing - didn't seem to work.

Perhaps I'm naive, but what exactly am I missing out on without Flash? The iPhone seems to do everything I need it to...

You're missing out on loads of choppy video and tons of games that don't work on touchscreens. HOW WILL YOU COPE?

Also! Buy Forget-Me-Not, 'cause it's brill.

I avoid being one of those people by being even worse and showing my work on it instead...

I use Tapatalk, but I do wish it had an 'Active Topics' button, which is pretty much all I use when browsing on a desktop. I find browsing through the topics without it a bit of a chore...

Currently addicted to Plants Vs Zombies, though with strategy games I tend to hit a point where my brain can't handle the escalating complexity and I give up - so I'm dreading that moment. My girlfriend and I are also playing a lot of Fruit Ninja - especially the arcade mode, where I currently hold the top score of 414.

Suspected I might have been fleeced, and as a result had a look for alternative policies online - cancelled the original policy and now I pay £5.75 a month instead - much more reasonable.

Radiator, doesn't the "Unread" tab under the "Latest" button nearly do the same thing? That's what I use anyway (like right now for instance! :D )

No, it's not the same at all. Once you've read a thread, it's tricky to find again.

I found Missile Command more awesome when it was tap-to-fire, before Atari pulled that version last year. The current compilation's got loads of potential, but there are so many problems with it. Disappointing.

Found a free game called Glyder last night- it's great.
