I am an unashamed fan of the Street Fighter anime movies. Look forward to watching (or re-watching, I don't think i've seen it...) your review, HdE.

I'm not quite as enamoured, but I do see good things in this one (and several of the others!) - hopefully you'll agree I strive to be fair.

It's probably worth disclosing: Originally, on the old channel, my plan was to run a complete series of reviews of these films. A pal set me up with legit copies of everything bar the Juri ONA that you could unlock as a downloadble extra in Street Fighter IV.

The reviews got derailed during my re-launch shenanigans, but they'll still appear at some point. I've been editing one of them tonight, as it happens!

This week's review is up, and it brings with it a fresh turn in the saga of Youtube lunacy.

The review itself is of the Gundam shot film collection GUNDAM EVOLVE, released earlier this year in the States (cheeky tip - it actually plays on Region 2 DVD players as well!)

Here's the link:
https://youtu.be/34J_NphFAqo

Here's a pic:

And here's the lunacy:

SOMEBODY has evidently decided they don't like my channel. While watching views for this one update in real time, yesterday it accrued two new views and - get this - EIGHT dislikes.

This is pretty suspicious. The only way you can register multiple likes or dislikes on one video is by setting up multiple accounts and using those to post them. So it would appear that somebody is doing this without actually watching the videos.

This doesn't actually harm my video in any way, but it's a bit aggravating. So if you watch the video within Youtube, do me a favour and whack that like button - assuming you DO actually enjoy it! If you don't... well, tell me why. I can use constructive input to make better material.

Youtube's difficult enough without these childish attempts at demotivation.

Well i'm currently working my way through a boat ton of 80's OVA anime, mostly of the sci-fi and mecha genres. Iczer-1, Dangaioh, Gal Force and Patlabor (the first iteration of many I believe) to name a few and would love to see our good resident anime boffin HdE take on a few of these, providing YT's ridiculous copyright system doesn't forbid him.

Always happy to take requests! There's actually a few that are forming a rough list things to work through. Some of this got derailed when I decided to shut down and re-launch, but I'm slowly getting back on track.

Speaking of mecha shows, though, you might find this week's new review of interest...

... and here it is!

I butted heads with YAM112003 Endemol and WON to get this one published without copyright claims. Halfway expecting them to put a fresh claim on it at some point, but I'm definitely more easily able to fight them off now if they do. Anyway - watch it while it's hot! This one's a review of MAZINGER EDITION Z - THE IMPACT!

And that's not all! A couple of older reviews were re-posted recently as well. I deliberately didn't update the thread here as I figure they've already been linked to here in the past. Repeating myself gets old.

BUT, for interested parties, my review of CAPTAIN HARLOCK - SPACE pirate is here:

And my thoughts on SUMMER WARS are here:

Righty! Updatesamungus!

I've been a bit quiet in this thread, as previous updates on the channel have either been re-posts of old videos or incidental features. But I'm back to post a MAHOOSIVE update!

First up: Brand NEW review! This one's a look at a show from 1999 which deserves LOTS of love. I even ramble at the top of the video about another show by the same director which blew my socks off. So consder it a double recommendation, if you will. The main event, though, is DAI-GUARD!

Also, recently republished ahead of a Stateside budget re-release, is my old review of THE LEGEND OF THE LEGENDARY HEROES, which you can find here:
https://youtu.be/E6BM3cAcaWQ

I've also published a couple of shorter videos which work as companion features to other reviews.

You can hear my thoughts on the live action teaser trailer for Dreamworks' Ghost in the Shell, starring MoScarjo Hannsonagi, here:
https://youtu.be/quX4jOYXJJM

And for anyone curious as to how I go about reviewing mecha shows (like Dai-Guard) I talk about the mucky business right here:
https://youtu.be/IFeiGYOLxL8

So there you go! Hopefully that'll keep the three people who post in this thread happy for a bit!

And just a brief reminder - if you haven't subscribed to the new channel yet, now would be a VERY good time to do so. Some folks are telling me theyre not seeing updates, and it turns out they're expecting to see them on the Brainjar TV channel.

I've been very clear about this, so I don't know how people are missing it: There will be NO new anime content posted on Brainjar TV. So if you're still subbed to that, you need to head over to 'HdE Does Anime' and subscribe there instead. I'm keeping the old channel open as a redundancy, but you're unlikely to see very much of anything new there.

Latest review is up, folks!

Seeing as there was a fair bit of interest in my review of the Street Fighter II animated movie across social media (even if it didn't translate into meaningful views) I figured I'd return to the franchise and look at another of its animated tie ins.

This one's an oddity. STREET FIGHTER IV - THE TIES THAT BIND has only ever been made available previously as a pack in extra with deluxe editions of the video game it's based on. And that's a damned shame.

Click this here link to find out what I think of it. And witness a cringe inducing 'homage' to one of my favourite Youtube channels:

So I might not have gone straight out to watch Street Fighter IV but I DID spend a large chunk of my none working hours with weekend watching Dai-Guard on HdE's recommendations. And? It's pretty darn nice actually, I agree the end of the millennium animation style has dated somewhat but nearly 20 years after production i've found it's developed a kind of charm to it. The plot and characters where never going to be award worthy but it passes the time and garners enough investment for the eventual pay off. And as far as super robots go, their are certainly worse examples on the market. Thanks for the recommendation, HdE!

HdE

Ayyy! Glad I was able to point somebody in Dai Guard's direction! Charming is certainly the word for it. Maybe it's not as dazzling as the latest megabucks Gundam show, but it sure has its heart in the right place.

Incidentallishly, if anyone IS wanting to get their hands on the Street Fighter IV movie, I can recommend spending a bit of time scouring Ebay. I'm informed that the special edition release of the game often comes up at less than the RRP of your average brand new movie release. If folks are savvy about it, it can be obtained for less than limited edition money.

This has been an HdE anime procurement advice message. Have a nice day!

Just a quickie update, as I realise I haven't really kept this threaad afloat lately (I think everyone who comments here regularly is already subscribed anyway.)

Good news to share! The channel hit a milestone last week. I've passed 100 subs, which means it will contine next year.

I'll be taking some time off from my posting schedule to write new reviews. But there's definitely more to come!

Well, because precisely NOBODY asked for it, I'm back to my Youtubey shenanigans.

The first review of 2017 is up, and it's a look back at READ OR DIE, a three part OVA from the early zeroes.

And if super-powered librararians aren't your thing, you could always check out my recent review of GOLGO 3 - THE PROFESSIONAL. Especially if you want to see me really unload on a film. (SPOILER: I think it's dreadful.)

Nice selection of reviews you have there. Are you going to be doing Michiko and Hatchin? I'm watching that at the moment and am loving it. The art style reminds me a lot of cowboy bebop. Same feel with the stories too. Looking forward to watching your Ghost In The Shell movie review. I'm off to see if this afternoon so I will watch it after that and see if our feelings on it are the same. Hoping for the best :D

Thanks! I've had requests for Michiko & Hatchin before, and I've seen the show. But it's one of those ones that's quite tricky to articulate my thoughts on.

Also: Prof... shame on you. Tsk tsk tsk!
