Loved the Simping Detective - dense, atmospheric & very funny. The art is simply stunning, easily up there with the best 2000ad stuff ever. In comparison the DeMarco stuff is a bit anaemic - it's fine but never catches fire. I'd never thought of the comparison with Alias/Jessica Jones before. Great endpapers, cover, interview etc. These volumes continue to impress. Glad there's news of a Wally Squad issue - hopefully some Brett Ewins greatness. Looking forward to Deadman!

As someone who missed a lot of these Meg tales, this current book is a right boon. A great read, all told.

Just finished the Simping Detective. This was all new to me and I thought Jack Point was a brilliant creation, excellent work by all including the late great Tom Frame. Enjoyed the DeMarco stories too, particularly the character of Travis Perkins. The Pit is coming up, hopefully The Scorpion Dance is too for more of DeMarco's story arc.

So a quarter of the way through the collection, and it's been pretty bang on so far. I've found it's showcased really well the variety of stories, characters and artwork that have contributed to Dredd's world over the years. I think the general consensus is that the one volume that didn't really work is The Heavy Mob - maybe, as I said somewhere earlier on this thread, if Father Earth had appeared first in that issue it might have given it a bit more context. The other volumes with common themes, Democracy Now and Alien Nations, both worked really well. Especially Howler, genius.

Can't wait for Trifecta now....

I never really got on with the Simping Detective first time round, but, for some reason, I've enjoyed it in this edition. And, yeah, on the whole this is a really good set. As I've already said, more context would be good. (I'm not really of the opinion the reader should be piecing together timelines and continuity. It's also largely already put my wife off of reading the series.) But bar the odd questionable entry, these have been great books; and for the money, they're something of a bargain.

i found the Simping Detective section just as much hard work as ever in this volume.  Something about the way Jack's monologues read with the Mega City speak... all that drokkbot stuff, just makes it hard work to read, but worth it when it makes sense.  The Demarco section I liked better, and I really could not be bothered with that first time round.

Simping Detective forces you to slow down as a reader and do a lot of work. Maybe more comics should push the reader a bit. It could have a been a "sin city" piss take but is actually fantastic.

Hopefully they will have PJ when he was mayor would love to read that arc. I cant wait for the Pitt as well.

Mixed opinions about the Simping Detective. The story was a bit of an unusual style as was the art, but considering the film noire influence that's not surprising.

The Demarco stories IEnjoyed, and having an Apetown was fun. The first time I remember hearing about an Apetown was the. Post apocalypse was fast eek and don't uggie storyline where it was alluded to.
When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid. That is how an RBMK reactor core explodes. Lies. - Valery Legasov

For the subscribing Aussies - which volumes are you up to?

I've just received "Mandroid" and "The Heavy Mob".  My brother got them a month ago (though with "Cursed Earth" substituted for "The Heavy Mob" due to a stock issue).  If I'm behind everyone else I'll write to the distributors; if my brother is ahead I won't worry - but I think from comments last time I behind.

And - anyone received their bookends yet?

Dash, I got Heavy Mob, Devlin Waugh and the bookends yesterday.

Got Cursed Earth and Mandroid last month. It was a good month!

I have nine in total now.

Did anyone else here (and in the UK) request a replacement Total War but not get one? First time since subscribing that I've been unhappy with the service. (Previous replacements have arrived in a week; this time, it's been three weeks and nothing.)

I received my second Total War replacement this morning. Just packed in a Jiffy envelope so the spine incurred a small ding when the postman dropped it through my letterbox but the double-printed text fault in the actual strips is much improved on the previous editions.

When I contacted Hachette the second time to complain that the first replacement they'd sent was no better than my original they did say that they didn't have any more in the office and were waiting for a new batch which they would check before posting out. This morning's replacement wasn't shrink-wrapped which suggests that they are checking this time around.

Cheers terryo.  Looks like I'm behind for some reason, though it means I missed the distribution problem with "The Heavy Mob".

I agree, Cursed Earth and Mandroid are/will be great.

Just found a copy of "The Dead Man" in WHSmiths. This is perfect. Great intro & Ridgway interview, cracking end papers. Best book yet?

I liked it a lot, although the jump to the follow-up story was quite a jolt and oddly placed.

I just finally read Swimming in Blood. That's one of the few so far that's totally worked jumping ahead. Also makes me rather wish we'd seen more from the character. Eight years since the last strip, according to Barney.
