1. Judge Death. Digitally enlarge mouth, rest is makeup.
2. Judge Fire. Body wreathed in fire, CGI skull. Probably the most complex/expensive one.
3. Judge Fear. Complete darkness behind visor, may not even need to be FX.
4. Judge Mortis. Digital horseskull on green painted actor head.

This could be tough on a limited budget, but there are some fairly decent references. What do you think?

Also, if anyone has a better suggestion for references, especially Mortis, please upload  ;)

One thing I'm very curious about is what people feel the environment in the movie needs in order to feel like Mega-City One. Since it's a mid-budget movie shot exclusively in Cape Town I was slightly worried that the environment would come across as too mundane. Then again, we've hardly seen anything yet.

I've composed a list of things that may or may not be neccessary. What do you think? Are all important? None of them? Something else?

1. Scenes establishing the size of the city, size of a block, the freeway.
2. Weird and futuristic architecture resembling what we see in 2000AD.
3. Level of technology comparable to comic books.
4. Robots. Call-Me-Kenneth, Walter, ABC units etc.
5. Weird and colorful Mega-City fashion.
6. Sub-cultures of the city. The League of Fatties for example.
7. Imagery or lore references to other locations like Mega-City 2, East-Meg 1, Cursed Earth, Luna etc.
8. Imagery or lore references to other Dredd stories. Umpty Bars, Boing Spray etc.

...and probably many more I didn't think of off the top of my head.

Film Discussion / Judge Anderson - Olivia Thirlby
22 May, 2012, 10:31:52 PM
Since there is no official thread here I thought this forum needed one. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the character (in no specific order) and hear what you guys think.

Ok, so we will probably not be getting Anderson straight out of 2000AD since she is going to be a rookie judge in the movie. I just hope she will at least retain the flippant personality and cocky confidence of the original. That was something I really enjoyed in the comics and I think it was quite uncommon back then, she's anything but a damsel in distress.

My fear is that they'll make her more vulnerable and insecure, even helpless at times in contrast to Dredd's rather, ahem, assertive personality. Compare Ewins version with Thirlby, she almost looks like a scared young girl in comparison. I don't mind origin stories, as long as they stay true to the character. I just hope she'll carry her own weight, just like she does in every 2000AD story.

Another detail, her badge says "Anderson", not "PSI". Does this mean she will be recruited to Psi Division at the end of the film, or is that something they're saving for a second movie? (Hopefully with Judge Death!)

One image that makes me wonder is the "execution shot". I suspect that will be a turning point for Anderson in the movie. Her pose could be interpreted as hesitant, but her face looks neutral, even cold. Maybe Dredd orders her to judge the last perp in a group he took care of himself, to test her convictions? In the comic books Anderson has no problems dispensing Mega City justice. However, she is very reluctant when innocent lives are at stake.

In summary, she should have more heart than Dredd, I just hope they don't weaken her character in order to show it.

General / Best editions of classic Dredd?
18 May, 2012, 05:46:16 PM
Hi! I'm fairly new to the forums and I'm currently trying to get my hands on all classic Dredd stories. I used to own many of the original comic books but now I'm hoping to find collected editions instead. The problem is, the new prints of the old stories seem to be lower quality than the earlier ones.

I found The Chronicles of Judge Dredd 1 by John Wagner and Brian Bolland, Titan Books 1985 today for £8 in near mint condition in a comic book store, and the print quality is clearly better than some of the newer ones I've seen.

So, in terms of quality, what editions do you guys recommend for classic Dredd?

Hi all. New member, old school Dredd fan. Stockholm, Sweden.

I actually joined because of the upcoming film, I thought this would be the place to discuss it. However, for some reason I don't have permission to post in the Film section. Why?

Edit: And apparently I have to verify some letter code to even post here. What is this forum? Mega City Justice Department lol?
